Blaithnaid

We Have fell in love with the name blaithnaid (bla-nid) will be our pronunciation. We live in a different country but it’s [name_f]English[/name_f] speaking, I’m considering changing the spelling but I don’t want to take away from the name either. Any suggestions?

Blanid is the only other spelling i can think of but I’d probably keep the original

I wouldn’t know how to pronounce this at first but once you correct people they will learn. [name_m]Roll[/name_m] call might be an issue, and if that bothers you, you could use Blanid.

For me and my accent, I’d be more inclined to pronounce Blan rhyming with [name_u]Anne[/name_u]. I’m not sure if you’re looking for that or for it to sound more like blah-nid. The name obviously isn’t [name_f]English[/name_f] at all, so I imagine it isn’t going to sound all that familiar in an [name_f]English[/name_f] speaking country no matter how it’s pronounced unless you’re in [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] or surrounding countries. I would just go with the original spelling and tell people how to say it rather than trying to change it. But I always prefer the original spelling of names, anyway.
