Blonde names vs. brunette names?

Does anyone else here strongly associate certain names with a certain hair color? As we’ve been going about trying to select a name for our DD, I’ve realized that my preferences vary a lot depending on whether I think she’ll be brunette or blonde (to the point where I’d actually consider discarding our first choice if the baby turned out to have different coloring than I expected).

Does anyone else feel this way? For example, to me, [name]Alice[/name], [name]Audrey[/name], and [name]Alyssa[/name] are all blonde, while [name]Natalie[/name], [name]Violet[/name], [name]Daphne[/name] are definitely brunette. What names do you associate with a specific hair color?

I do sometimes. I posted earlier that I associated [name]Arianna[/name] with being blonde. I don’t know why. There are some names that seem only appropriate for a brunette. My son is very, very blonde and his name is [name]Caleb[/name], and I couldn’t picture it on a dark haired little boy. My daughter, on the other hand, would have had dark hair because my hair is so dark it’s almost black and her father was half Mexican and Half Italian and had dark coloring - her name was [name]Felicity[/name], and I associate that with being brunette.

I was named after [name]Leslie[/name] [name]Caron[/name], and I am also small and dark. However, I always thought of [name]Leslie[/name] as a tall, willowy blonde (and then I met one!).

[name]Ariana[/name] is a brunette, because it’s a Spanish/Italian name.

My son is [name]Thomas[/name] [name]Caleb[/name], and he is 6 ft 6 in, 250 pounds, and has dark brown, curly hair and dark brown eyes.

I’ve always associated [name]Jamie[/name] as a freckle-faced redheaded little boy, and I’ve always associated the name [name]Clare[/name] with a dark blonde with green eyes. I knew a beautiful redheaded Irish girl named [name]Barbara[/name], and that name will forever be associated with that colouring.

My own [name]Caitlin[/name] has dark brown hair and dark brown eyes, like me, and I’ve always associated the name [name]Louisa[/name] with a brunette, that being her middle name.

Probably because it sounds like “[name]Aryan[/name]!”

I don’t really associate names with physical appearance, so it’s always strange to me when a poster asks something like, “Would ‘[name]Zachary[/name]’ work on a little hazel-eyed redheaded boy?”

Theres that, but also, I think, because of [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] - Dumbledore’s sister is [name]Ariana[/name] and shes blonde. Seeing the last movie confirmed the association for me lol.

I used to picture [name]Olive[/name] as a brunette. My baby came out with a lot of dark hair so that’s what we named her (not the only reason of course). She’s blonde now and what a perfect blonde [name]Olive[/name] she is :). That would be the problem with associating a name too much with looks and having that be the reason for choosing a name. They can change so much from what they look like as newborns!

I’ve never really thought about it.

[name]Elena[/name] is of Spanish/Italian origin, and most Spanish/Italian girls are dark skinned, dark haired and dark eyed.

But my [name]Elena[/name] is a light blonde, with green eyes and no freckles. She’s also pretty small for her age.

So I’d associate [name]Elena[/name] with fair haired girls.

Its definitely something to consider now that you’ve mentioned it though!

Yes- some of my favorite names depended on what my baby looked like. If she were darker shed be [name]Susannah[/name] , lighter shed be [name]Gretchen[/name] or anneliese. If she was very pale with dark hair maybe a different name altogether.

I think about this all the time. My husband and I have different coloring so when thinking of potential names, I have a list of names for if a baby takes after me and a list for if a baby takes after him. [name]Fleur[/name], [name]Gwendolyn[/name], [name]Catalina[/name] and [name]Charity[/name] all sound like blonde girls to me. [name]Violet[/name], [name]Jordana[/name], [name]Winter[/name], [name]Aya[/name] and [name]Aria[/name] all sound like brunettes. I picture [name]Ivy[/name] and [name]Jane[/name] as red heads.

I do this all the time! I picture the majority of my list with fairer-haired/fairer-skinned, blue-eyed features. Maybe because that’s how my two little sisters have always been, and maybe because that’s how I and my brother were born (later on, our eyes turned hazel and our hair turned a medium brown). I mean, for the most part, I picture [name]Isabelle[/name], [name]Arianne[/name], [name]Olivia[/name], [name]Liliana[/name], [name]Annika[/name], [name]Emmeline[/name], [name]Lorelei[/name], and even [name]Charlotte[/name] as all blonds. I think of [name]Rachel[/name], [name]Hannah[/name], [name]Violet[/name], and [name]Gwendolyn[/name] as brunettes. I think [name]Caroline[/name], nn [name]Cara[/name], and [name]Piper[/name] could go either way, but [name]Piper[/name] is leaning toward blonde to me because of [name]Piper[/name] Perabo. So I guess it’s kinda half-and-half for me, although my favorites are leaning toward “blonde” names.

Then again, I’ll probably adopt the majority of my children, so who knows what that’ll do to my name list. lol. I always figured I would consider [name]Arianne[/name] first for an [name]Asian[/name] little girl, if I adopt from [name]Asia[/name], probably because the first [name]Ariana[/name] I met was Chinese.

For boys, I can see most of my favorites going either way ([name]Bailey[/name], [name]Holden[/name], [name]Avery[/name], [name]Jack[/name], [name]Henry[/name], [name]Grayson[/name]), but I really can only see [name]Caleb[/name] and [name]Jonas[/name] being blondes.
