Blythe- to use or not to use

[name]Blythe[/name] has been my favorite girl name for a very long time. Now that I am expecting a girl, I worry that it doesn’t work well in real life. Is it too hard to say, too easily mispronounced, too akward? I love the name and will use it in the middle name spot if not as the first name. Should I be concerned about potential problems with this name? My other current favorites are [name]Clara[/name] and [name]Eva[/name]. I appreciate all opinions and suggestions!

[name]Blythe[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]
[name]Eva[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]

I love [name]Blythe[/name], but I must confess I would use it as a middle name, for the same concerns you have.

[name]Clara[/name] [name]Blythe[/name] is just beautiful!

I also love [name]Blythe[/name] and I think it’s very usable. I’d pair it with a longer name - [name]Blythe[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name] would be a great combo.

I love the name and have considered it myself. I did meet one parent of a baby [name]Blythe[/name] who said the name had proven difficult in real life because people rarely heard it correctly the first time around. He said he wished he had known that before using it…

I think [name]Blythe[/name] is a bit of a name crush, not for a fn but definitely a beautiful mn. I love both [name]Clara[/name] [name]Blythe[/name] and [name]Eva[/name] [name]Blythe[/name] but [name]Eva[/name] [name]Blythe[/name] really stands out for me. TBO you can’t go wrong with either.

I thought i had settled on [name]Blythe[/name], but i do see how it might be difficult. Gorgeous name in either spot.

[name]Clara[/name] [name]Blythe[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name]!!

I agree. I think [name]Blythe[/name] is a beautiful, whimsical, playful, light, happy name, but I admit I wouldn’t use it as a FN–not really for the same reasons as @kyemsma, but I just can’t really picture myself with a [name]Blythe[/name], it doesn’t really seem to fit my style. But now that I think of it, I can’t really picture [name]Blythe[/name] on a person at all. I’m sure if I met a [name]Blythe[/name], my opinion would change, though. I just find it more appealing and charming as a MN. I think both [name]Clara[/name] [name]Blythe[/name] and [name]Eva[/name] [name]Blythe[/name] are gorgeous and charming–I like the less common [name]Blythe[/name] to balance out the familiar/classic [name]Clara[/name] and [name]Eva[/name]–it spices them up a bit.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with [name]Blythe[/name], but I think it does fit better in a middle name spot.

I love it too, but [name]Evangeline[/name] more. So I use [name]Evangeline[/name] [name]Blythe[/name].

I think you should go for it! Most people have heard the word, even if they’re not familiar with the name. I think the spelling is not that complex and people would learn it very quickly if they didn’t already know it. Plus it’s just really beautiful!

I have the same reservations as you. The word “blithe” and the name [name]Blythe[/name] are both so rarely used they won’t be known, and phonetically it’s a difficult syllable (closed, with three consonants, including the voiced th which is less commonly used in English than the unvoiced-- I.e. leaTHer versus wiTH).

It is so beautiful it might be worth it, but you-- and eventually your daughter-- will have to do some frequent education. Like it definitely won’t pass the Satrbucks test.

[name]Blythe[/name] is beautiful. Go for it!

[name]Blythe[/name] is nice, but it isn’t really a favorite of mine. I do, however, love the name [name]Eve[/name]/[name]Eva[/name]. [name]How[/name] about [name]Eva[/name] [name]Jade[/name]? It’s sooo dreamy…

I knew a [name]Blythe[/name] in high school, and I don’t think she had any problems with her name. I think it’s beautiful!
