Boring and Over used?

Is the name [name_f]Christine[/name_f] boring and over used? I’ve only met 1 and she spelt her name [name_f]Kristine[/name_f]. I’ve looked up the name and alot of comments say it is annoying/ boring/ or overused. So is it?

I think it has been. On facebook I’m friends with 23 ladies in the [name_f]Christina[/name_f] family, ages 22-38. I haven’t met anyone younger than that range.

Hmm, I’ve known a lot of Christines and Kristinas in all their variations. But no, not on a child in a long time.

If you like it, go for it. She’ll probably be the only one in the class if everyone else is shying away due to “overuse.”

Thank you for being honest.

I was born in the late 70’s, and I grew up with a lot of Christines and Christinas, with all the various associated short names. You might consider a fresher-sounding variation, like [name_f]Christiana[/name_f] or [name_f]Christabel[/name_f]. HTH

I think, as others have pointed out, that the only reason it feels “boring or overused” is because of the huge wave of [name_f]Christine[/name_f]/a during 70s and 80s. It does feel like a much more fresh name now, though she might grow to feel that her name is an “old lady name,” even though we don’t think of it that way now, because the wave of Christines of the generation before are still young.

I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone younger than age 25 in 2015 with a [name_f]Christine[/name_f] variant. I also like [name_f]Christiana[/name_f].

In short, I don’t think it’s overused now, it MIGHT still be boring to some people, but I think it’s more just dated. Still a lovely name, and worthy of the consideration you’re giving it.

It’s not very popular now — only 400 babies in the U.S. last year. I know a lot of Christines and Christinas about my age and older, but no young ones. That’s backed up by trend data: Pregnancy, Parenting, Lifestyle, Beauty: Tips & Advice | mom.com

So that’s probably why a lot of adults feel a little bored with it now, but it’s definitely not overused for the current generation.

I’ve actually never met a [name_f]Christene[/name_f]. In my area it was [name_u]Christy[/name_u]. I think [name_f]Christine[/name_f] is lovely and elegant. Not a fan of [name_f]Christina[/name_f]

i dont know anyone by that name

The only [name_f]Christine[/name_f]'s I know are my age or older. That being said, there aren’t that many little girls being named [name_f]Christine[/name_f] right now, so I think it would be refreshing and sweet on a baby!

My coworker has a daughter named [name_f]Christina[/name_f] and she is 10 years old. That is the only [name_f]Christine[/name_f]/a I know under 24!
I don’t think it’s boring/annoying/overused these days. I think you should go for it if you love it!

like many of the previous posters I think this name is dated, and i’d be surprised to see it on a young child. however, my mother is [name_f]Christina[/name_f] so I’ll always have a soft spot for it. I’d definitely like to see it on a baby.

I think [name_f]Christine[/name_f] is a beautiful name. Slightly dated, but not as much as others. I definitely don’t think it’s boring. I still think it’s very wearable today. I know a [name_f]Christina[/name_f] who is 13 and the name works well even now.

I agree with most of what’s already been said. Not necessarily unusable, but it’s been used so much the last twenty or so years that it’s hard to see anything compelling about it. It’s in the [name_f]Jessica[/name_f], [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], [name_f]Megan[/name_f], [name_f]Amber[/name_f], [name_f]Nicole[/name_f], [name_f]Michelle[/name_f], [name_f]Heather[/name_f] family. I knew three or four of each growing up. Are these bad names? No. If you look at just the names themselves, many of them are quite pretty and it’s easy to see why they became so popular. But they are the upcoming generation’s Mom Names, which means that your child will share her name with women the same age as her mother and aunts rather than herself. I liken it to someone of my generation using [name_f]Barbara[/name_f], [name_f]Linda[/name_f], [name_f]Cindy[/name_f], or [name_f]Karen[/name_f] for a little girl. There’s nothing “wrong” with these names, but we’re not nearly far enough away from that generation for them to have a vintage, nostalgic feel. They just feel like “Parent Names.”

You can certainly still use [name_f]Christine[/name_f] or [name_f]Christina[/name_f] if none of this bothers you. I, however, second [name_f]Christiana[/name_f].

Well said. Totally agree.

[name_f]Christine[/name_f] is fine, not a fan though.

I wouldn’t say it is overused anymore. I know several in the 28+ age group so I consider it a kind of dated name.

DHs mom is [name_f]Christine[/name_f]. It feels very dated and very much a “mom” name to me. Maybe it will feel fresh again in 20 years?

Thank you everyone Im really starting to like the name [name_f]Christiana[/name_f] with the nn [name_u]Christy[/name_u]. However I’m not sure if I run into the same problem with the nn being dated or over used or a parent name like you all have mentioned. What do you think?

You will, I’m afraid. [name_u]Christy[/name_u] and [name_f]Christa[/name_f] were almost as popular at about the same time. But it sounds like you really like the name, so don’t let it stop you. If you admire it that much, just use it.
