Bosca?

Hello! I’d love to include a reference to St. [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Bosco[/name_m] in our soon-to-be daughter’s middle name. [name_f]My[/name_f] first thought is to feminize the Italian [name_m]Bosco[/name_m] by making it Bosca. Those who speak Italian - is that doable/acceptable? Is Bosca some curse word I don’t know about? Anyone else have thoughts about it? [name_m]Or[/name_m] ideas?

I don’t speak Italian, but in Spanish (which is sort of similar) it’s not anything bad. It does really sound like the word for ‘forest’ so to be honest if I heard it in real life, I would probably assume that I had misheard and the person was really saying forest. However, that is sort of a cool connection in my opinion, and a cool meaning to have (if it’s related.) I think its an interesting name!- a little clunky-sweet, bright, and has a unique sound!

@heartwings might know more?

I really like [name_m]Bosco[/name_m] - think it’s a cuter sound than Bosca. That and I think just go with the direct honour and link to the [name_m]Saint[/name_m]. Not sure if the wood/shrub dweller meaning is too much - but nature names are in and again, it’s about the direct honour. I know both [name_m]Bosco[/name_m] and Bosca used as brand names.

Bosca is not really a name I would use. What about [name_f]Tosca[/name_f]? It is not anything bad, but it does not feel a name to me and has a somehow “awkward” sound? [name_f]Tosca[/name_f] is nice though, and [name_f]Silvia[/name_f] is nice (Silvia means of the forest).

I know a little [name_m]Bosco[/name_m]! Took me a couple years of knowing him to stop thinking about the Seinfeld episode/chocolate syrup though.

As middle name referening to the saint, you could also just use [name_m]Bosco[/name_m] if you want

I dont know if this would be a problem where you’re from but I do have to add that Basco is a word many Basque people use to refer to themselves (prn with an open ‘aww’ sound). So to my ears both [name_m]Bosco[/name_m] (and Bosca) sound a little weird, kind of like naming your child Americain (and Americaine)… however its not offensive in anyway just sounds a little strange, and if you live in an area where there isnt a large basque population (which I realize is probably like 95% of the world) it wouldnt be a problem.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] thought you should be aware. I personally like to have all the possible associations with a name when Im trying to decide.

With that being said as a middle I think using either [name_m]Bosco[/name_m] or Bosca would be fine, I havent heard any negative associations with it, just the syrup!
