Expecting baby boy #3. We’re having a tough time picking a name but one of my top three names ends in -son. I wouldn’t care so much about it’s ending if our last name didn’t also end in -son! I’m not sure if it’s too much or if it really doesn’t matter.
Maybe I’m over thinking this, but what do you all think??
I think it’s not necessarily a deal-breaker, but it really depends on the name for me. I think as long as they have a different number of syllables it might be fine (I know a [name_u]Jackson[/name_u] Mathison and I think that flows well), but a [name_u]Jackson[/name_u] [name_m]Thompson[/name_m] for example would be a little too rhymey for my taste? I hope that makes sense. If you don’t mind sharing, what are the names you’re considering? Are they a different number of syllables than your last name?

I think it could work if they are different enough. As previous poster said, you could get away with something like [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] [name_u]Jackson[/name_u] or [name_u]Mason[/name_u] [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] whereas [name_u]Mason[/name_u] [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] or [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] sound a little repetitive
Sorry, I think it sounds a bit silly. I’d go for another name.
That’s really a bummer! Like @Greyblue said, I think it depends on how matchy it feels, like if both names have the same amount of syllables.
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps!
Thanks everyone for the input!
The first name has three syllables while the last name has two. So it’s not super “rhymey” sounding!
We’ll ultimately decide when he’s here to see what he looks like, BUT I wanted to hear opinions if it’s worth keeping on the list or not!

I personally think it would be okay, maybe only a bit iffy it rhymed in a weird way like [name_f]Julia[/name_f] Gulia. One of my favorite names is [name_u]Jackson[/name_u] with a last name ending in -son too
I think the different number of syllables helps. We have the same problem but found ‘son’ ending names just didn’t sound as good with our surname so went with one of our other options.
