Bowie?

I saw this name on a billboard and thought it would be a great name for a little boy. However, I think it could work through all stages of life from baby to old man. (Grandpa [name]Bowie[/name]!) Thoughts? I’m prepared for criticism. Also, what are some middle names that work? I prefer strong, more traditional middle names for uncommon first names to sort of balance them out. Obviously, [name]David[/name] is not an option…
The first one that came to mind for me was [name]Bowie[/name] [name]Nathaniel[/name].

I love it & have had it on my short list for my current pregnancy as well. My husband & I were going to go with ‘[name]Bowen[/name]’ with the nn [name]Bowie[/name] if we had chosen to use it. I think we’ve scratched it off our list because it doesn’t go as well with our last name as some of our other choices, but we do [name]LOVE[/name] it! I think [name]Bowie[/name] can stand alone but it’s just my opinion that it is cuter as a regularly used nickname for [name]Bowen[/name]. Good luck!!!

[name]Bowen[/name]!!! I love it  I definitely prefer [name]Bowen[/name] with the nickname [name]Bowie[/name], thank you!

I was so excited to see this thread! I am a HUGE fan of [name]David[/name] [name]Bowie[/name] and would [name]LOVE[/name] to use [name]Bowie[/name] in some way. However, to be completely honest, we decided it just wouldn’t work for us. I don’t know, it seemed a little silly. The name didn’t seem to have enough oomph to stand on its own in the fn or mn spot. And with everyone knowing what a ridiculous [name]Bowie[/name] fan I am, it just seemed trite and expected. For you, it may very well work! [name]Bowen[/name] could be a usable way to get to [name]Bowie[/name]; however, I don’t really care for that name as it reminds me a lot of Boeing. In short, I applaud your wanting to use [name]Bowie[/name] and I hope you can find a way to do it!

[name]How[/name] would you pronounce it with the [name]Bow[/name] part rhyming with cow or with dough?

I love [name]David[/name] [name]Bowie[/name] (and one of my fave musicians, [name]Paul[/name] Weller, recently named one of his twins [name]Bowie[/name], the other is [name]John[/name] [name]Paul[/name] after the two Beatles). It’s cool but I can’t help but feel you have to be a rock start to get away with it, like maybe it just screams “FANDOM” otherwise IYKWIM?

I love [name]David[/name] [name]Bowie[/name], but the other reference is [name]James[/name]/[name]Jim[/name] [name]Bowie[/name]-- one of the defenders of the [name]Alamo[/name] in the [name]Texas[/name] Revolution and the man for whom the [name]Bowie[/name] knife was named. [name]Jim[/name] [name]Bowie[/name]'s last name is pronounced Boo-ee. You could do a whole theme and have [name]Travis[/name], [name]Houston[/name], [name]Crockett[/name], and [name]Bowie[/name] (I’m joking, but there’s probably a family with these names in [name]Texas[/name]!).

[name]Bowie[/name] is my doggies name. :frowning:

I think it’s silly, and I cringe when I see it in birth announcements.

I much prefer Bowden/[name]Bowie[/name] to [name]Bodhi[/name], which seems to be getting a fair bit of attention on nameberry.
