Boy/Girl Twins: would love some help!

[name]Hi[/name] all,

We are having boy/girl twins due this winter, and we are nowhere near figuring out what we are going to name them! I suggest a lot of names and my husband has a tendency to veto them. To make matters more difficult, our last name is a 4 syllable [name]German[/name] monstrosity starting with P, think Roethlisberger, so no names starting with P or ending in -er, and nothing too long. Here are our top contenders

[name]Roby[/name] (his grandfather’s name, pronounced like [name]Toby[/name]): this is our current boy favorite, but I am a little worried about mispronounciation, ie [name]Robby[/name]
[name]Gabriel[/name], nn [name]Gabe[/name]
[name]Charles[/name], nn [name]Charlie[/name]

[name]Annika[/name]: my favorite, but hubby thinks it sounds a bit “harsh” and that [name]Roby[/name] and [name]Annika[/name] do not sound American, lol.
[name]Rebecca[/name]: would not do with [name]Roby[/name] since I don’t like twin names that start with the same letter

Would appreciate any suggestions!

[name]Roby[/name] and [name]Tessa[/name] sound fabulous together
I really like [name]Roby[/name]!

Second choice for me would be [name]Griffin[/name] and [name]Elena[/name].

[name]Roby[/name] - it’s nice that it has some history, but you’re right that it would be pronounced wrong all the time. What about as a middle name?
[name]Gabriel[/name], nn [name]Gabe[/name] - okay, I prefer the nn [name]Gable[/name] though
[name]Ford[/name] - okay, not a favorite, [name]York[/name]? [name]Jude[/name]?
[name]Griffin[/name] - okay, more daring that the others
[name]Charles[/name], nn [name]Charlie[/name] - nice name, nothing exciting.

[name]Annika[/name] - nice, though I agree with your hubby that it can be a little harsh and unfamiliar. [name]Anya[/name]? [name]Anabel[/name]? [name]Analiese[/name]? [name]Analie[/name]?
[name]Hadley[/name] - I don’t really like this one.
[name]Devin[/name] - this is a boys name.
[name]Charlie[/name] - I don’t mind this as a nn to [name]Charlotte[/name] but not on it’s own.
[name]Rebecca[/name] - pretty name
[name]Tessa[/name] - love! my favorite from your list
[name]Elena[/name] - meh, okay

I think [name]Griffin[/name] and [name]Tessa[/name] work well together.
[name]Tessa[/name] and [name]Ford[/name] are also nice.
[name]Rebecca[/name] and [name]Gabriel[/name] also work well.
[name]Charles[/name] and [name]Rebecca[/name] would work

[name]Rebecca[/name] [name]Elena[/name] or [name]Rebecca[/name] [name]Annika[/name] & [name]Gabriel[/name] [name]Roby[/name] are nice together. That way, they still have something in common with their names (the r, only it’s not so recognizable) and you love [name]Annika[/name], and you both like [name]Roby[/name]. And your son wouldn’t be called by his middle name at school most likely, so there shouldn’t be any mis-pronounciation issues…
[name]Charlie[/name] [name]Rebecca[/name] & [name]Roby[/name] [name]Charles[/name]… or [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Rebecca[/name] & [name]Roby[/name] [name]Charles[/name]… they still both have the letters R & C in their names so that is something alike in the names and the combos sound great together. [name]Charlie[/name] is always a favorite of mine for a little girl, a gorgeous name!!!

For girls, I love [name]Annika[/name], [name]Tessa[/name], and [name]Elena[/name]!
For boys, I like [name]Ford[/name], [name]Gabriel[/name], and [name]Roby[/name].
Might you also like [name]Gable[/name] for a boy?

You might also like:
[name]Eleni[/name], [name]Jessamyn[/name], [name]Ruby[/name], [name]Elsa[/name]

Personally, [name]Roby[/name] and [name]Annika[/name] are my faves from your list; and I [name]LOVE[/name] that they [name]DON[/name]'T sound “American”. :-). What about [name]Rory[/name] or [name]Anouk[/name]? Close to [name]Roby[/name] and [name]Annika[/name], but just a bit different. Good luck to you!

I agree that [name]Roby[/name] would be mispronounced most of the time and suggest using it as a mn. I like [name]Annika[/name], especially with nn [name]Annie[/name]. I like the suggestion from above for [name]Rebecca[/name] [name]Elena[/name] and [name]Gabriel[/name] [name]Roby[/name]. My favorites from your list are:

  1. [name]Gabriel[/name] nn [name]Gabe[/name]

  2. [name]Charles[/name] nn [name]Charlie[/name]

  3. [name]Rebecca[/name]

  4. Tie between [name]Elena[/name], [name]Tessa[/name], and [name]Annika[/name]

Similar to [name]Annika[/name]-- what about [name]Anne[/name], [name]Anna[/name], [name]Anneliese[/name], or [name]Hannah[/name]? You could use the nn [name]Annie[/name] for all of these too.

I really like [name]Charles[/name] nn [name]Charlie[/name] and [name]Tessa[/name]. [name]Tessa[/name]'s one of my favorites, actually  And [name]Charlie[/name] and [name]Tessa[/name] sound great together!

Congrats on your twins!

I like [name]Griffin[/name] best for your boy. (Possible nicknames: [name]Griff[/name], [name]Griffy[/name], [name]Finn[/name]…) I agree with pp that [name]Roby[/name] will probably get mispronounced often. I was intent on giving our son a name to honor a family member, but name choices became much easier when I let that go. I don’t know why we insist on doing that for boys, but not girls. (Our son may still get a middle name that honors someone, but we haven’t decided on a middle name yet.)

[name]Gabriel[/name] and [name]Charles[/name] are also nice/solid/classic, but like a few other berries, I have always had a thing for girls named [name]Charley[/name].

I’m not a fan of [name]Ford[/name]. I just don’t like the sound. And maybe it’s the teacher in me, but I tend not to like names that begin with F.

For your daughter, I vote for [name]Charleston[/name] nn [name]Charley[/name]! Again, I love [name]Charlie[/name] or [name]Charley[/name] as a nn for a girl, but [name]Charlotte[/name] is too popular for me. I saw [name]Charleston[/name] in the Memorial [name]Day[/name] post this year and fell in love. Definitely American!

I also love [name]Hadley[/name], beautiful and underused. [name]Rebecca[/name], [name]Tessa[/name], and [name]Elena[/name] are also terrific.

[name]Annika[/name] is okay, but I prefer other variations of [name]Anna[/name] and [name]Hannah[/name].

I connect [name]Devin[/name] with devil. And again, probably just the teacher in me. Avoiding those D and F names.

I vote [name]Griffin[/name] [name]Roby[/name] and [name]Charleston[/name] or [name]Hadley[/name].

Good luck.
