We found out yesterday that we are having a boy. We both wanted a girl but will be happy either way with a healthy baby. But, we had two lovely girls names that we both loved, and one ok boys name. Now that we know it’s a boy we need to revisit our choices, or come up with a new list, but we can’t agree on anything! Our ‘ok’ boys name is [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Russell[/name_m], named after two grandfathers. This name just doesn’t feel like my son’s name, and I would prefer that he have his own first name, not named after half a dozen men on my side and at least two on Hubby’s side. I’m considering it a back up name for now, it’s still Hubby’s first choice. I’d love some help with names I can suggest to him.
It’s really hard to identify a style that he likes. As far as I can discern it has to be classic or at least historical, ‘strong’, mostly can’t end in a vowel. (For example, [name_m]Wesley[/name_m] is a no, [name_m]Antonio[/name_m] is maybe because it’s family again on both sides. He doesn’t like [name_u]Tony[/name_u] for a nickname, but also doesn’t like Nio, which I think is perfect, he thinks is ‘weak.’) Whenever I ask him to come up with names he turns to Scottish names, so I think he’d like something Scottish, or maybe Italian, which is his heritage, mine is Irish/English and Italian.
To add to the difficulty, our last name ends in -son, so i’d prefer to avoid names that end in -son,-en, -on, though if they are in every other way perfect I’d consider them. He only seems to notice this on girls names for some reason. I also prefer more unusual names, but at this point anything out of the top 10 i’d probably be ok with, though the more esoteric the better, but not made up.
Middle name will likely be [name_m]Paul[/name_m].
Thanks for your help, and letting me vent, I’m hoping some of you who are so good at this can help us out.
