Boy name feedback needed...10 weeks to go!

My husband and I don’t know if we are having a boy or a girl, but we’re guessing boy…and with 10 weeks to go, we still need a boy name! We are of competing schools of thought on names - I want something strong, classic/vintage, and not popular (top 250 or so). My husband wants a name that is as classic as his - [name]Matthew[/name] [name]William[/name].

Here’s what we’re thinking…

  • [name]Thaddeus[/name] (nn [name]Thad[/name]) - We keep coming back to this name again and again. We love [name]Thad[/name], but my husband isn’t sure if the full name sounds too much like a dinosaur/Greek god. He wishes it was a little MORE popular, so more people would have heard of it instead of giving weird looks when they hear the name (it’s been about 50/50 in positive/negative reactions).
  • [name]Daniel[/name]
  • [name]Grant[/name]
  • [name]Nelson[/name]

We’re leaning towards mn [name]Matthew[/name] for all of them, but are open to something else.

Other suggestions welcome!

What about [name]Theodore[/name] instead of [name]Thaddeus[/name]? [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Matthew[/name] is great, and I could see [name]Thad[/name] being a nickname for [name]Theodore[/name].

[name]How[/name] about [name]Theodore[/name]? It always goes with [name]Thaddeus[/name] in my mind, and [name]Thad[/name] still wouldn’t be too much of a stretch for a nickname. Though [name]Thaddeus[/name] [name]Matthew[/name] does flow nicer than Theordore [name]Matthew[/name]. [name]Theodore[/name] [name]William[/name]?
Let’s see…other traditional unpopulars…

[name]Simon[/name] (256)
[name]Martin[/name] (262)
[name]Gregory[/name] (279)
[name]Phillip[/name] (378)/[name]Philip[/name] (406)
[name]Johnathon[/name] (612)

[name]Hope[/name] that helped!

Fist off congratulations on your soon-to-be here baby! Your list is great. Honestly, I like them all. My favorites would have to be [name]Grant[/name] [name]William[/name] (it sounds so handsome) or [name]Thaddeus[/name] [name]William[/name] nn [name]Thad[/name] (I like it b/c it isn’t too popular, but as a teacher, I don’t think that people would have a hard time saying or spelling it).

I’d probably avoid [name]Daniel[/name]. [name]Daniel[/name] [name]Matthew[/name] is too Apostle-y to me.
[name]Thaddeus[/name] [name]Matthew[/name] does the same thing for me, though I doubt it is as obvious to many.

I don’t think that [name]Thaddeus[/name] is too out there and [name]Thad[/name] is really cute. I like @jtuckers suggestion of [name]Thaddeus[/name] [name]William[/name]. This way your potential boy could share mn’s with his dad but also have a great mn with great nn to fall back on should he find [name]Thaddeus[/name] difficult. ([name]Will[/name], [name]Bill[/name] and [name]Liam[/name] are the obvious that come to mind). Though I don’t predict that being an issue.

I really like [name]Grant[/name]. It’s familiar yet not popular and [name]Grant[/name] [name]Matthew[/name] sounds great!

I think they are all fine. I like [name]Thaddeus[/name]. If if makes your husband too nervous, you could also go with [name]Thomas[/name], as some Thomases go by [name]Tad[/name], or [name]Charles[/name], with the nickname [name]Chad[/name].

Other short names include

[name]Kirk[/name]
[name]Clark[/name]
[name]Kent[/name]
[name]Brent[/name]
[name]Walter[/name]

I love [name]Thaddeus[/name] [name]William[/name].
It’s so sophisticated yet distinctive.
