My husband and I are having a hard time deciding on our baby boy’s name. We are Jewish and would like to use a Hebrew name, however we want a name that is not too common yet not too weird or out there. I feel as if we have looked at every Hebrew name options and have narrowed it down to three, but are still unsure about them.
[name]Zev[/name] [name]Alexander[/name]- I love the name [name]Zev[/name], but am worried that it is “too out there” or looks incomplete. Also, my husband thinks it is “too” Hebrew looking. Nn would be Zevy or [name]Zevi[/name]
[name]Benson[/name] [name]Louis[/name]- We love the nn [name]Ben[/name], [name]Benny[/name], [name]Benjy[/name], but the full name [name]Benjamin[/name] is too common for us. I thought [name]Benson[/name] would be a nice alternative and we could also use the nn Bense. I would like to hear others opinions of this name.
[name]Jed[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] or [name]Jedd[/name] [name]Alexander[/name]- Can’t decide on spelling and can’t decide if it is enough to be a whole first name. Also, sounds a little too close to [name]Jet[/name].
[name]Zev[/name] is also my favorite out of your choices.
[name]Jed[/name] is my second favorite and is very cool.
I don’t like [name]Benson[/name], but I have a family associated with the name that I didn’t really care for, so that’s my own personal beef. It fits right in with other -son names, so it could work. There’s always [name]Benedict[/name], [name]Bennett[/name] and [name]Bentley[/name].
[name]Just[/name] as a side note, my favorite Hebrew name is [name]Orly[/name]. I’ve read that it means you are my light. [name]How[/name] cute is that?
I prefer [name]Benson[/name] [name]Louis[/name] of the three. I must agree with the pp that I love [name]Ari[/name] as well. [name]Ari[/name] [name]Benson[/name] maybe?
[name]Zev[/name] [name]Alexander[/name]- It does seem incomplete to me, but I’m not sure what it would be a nickname for. If you can find a nice full name, I think this would be my pick.
[name]Benson[/name] [name]Louis[/name]- Of your three, I think this may be my favorite. However, I think you should really consider whether you’re choosing [name]Benson[/name] over [name]Benjamin[/name] because it’s less common, or because you actually like it more. The vast majority of Benjamins respond to [name]Ben[/name], and if you use the same nicknames for your [name]Benson[/name], it would be just as confusing as if his name was [name]Benjamin[/name]. I really don’t see a point in switching them UNLESS you like [name]Benson[/name] better for the name, not just because statistics say it’s less common. I used to like [name]Bennett[/name] more than [name]Benjamin[/name] for the same reason (and it’s the street I grew up on) but then I realized that I much prefer the sound and rhythm of [name]Benjamin[/name]. I didn’t want to forget about a name just because other people liked it as well.
[name]Jed[/name] [name]Alexander[/name]- I’m not a fan of this one. It seems too country Western for my taste, and, like [name]Zev[/name], a little incomplete.
I like all the options, and I like them much more than [name]Ari[/name]. I think [name]Zev[/name] might be my fav. I am new to Nameberry so I am not familair with a ton of names yet, but I still don’t think [name]Zev[/name] is too weird.
