I’m 27 weeks pregnant right now and we’re Team [name_m]Green[/name_m] with baby, which has been really fun waiting to see who this baby will be! Our girl name was decided on while we were TTC, and I’m just obsessed with it. It feels perfect. BUT I have never felt that way about a boy name which is frustrating me.
[name_f][/name_f]
For the past 6 weeks or so, our top two options have been [name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m] or [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] (this baby will have [name_m]George[/name_m] in his/her name somewhere after my grandpa). [name_m]Judah[/name_m] is lovely, but I don’t have a strong connection to it. [name_m]George[/name_m] as a first name could be nice, but sometimes I worry it’s just slightly too old man for me.
[name_f][/name_f]
Most of the other boy names I’m drawn to feel too trendy, which I’m realizing is something I want to avoid. [name_m]August[/name_m], [name_m]Bennett[/name_m], [name_m]Milo[/name_m], [name_m]Arlo[/name_m], and [name_m]Silas[/name_m] are some names I enjoy that just have just shot up the charts too much recently for my taste (which I know is silly, because obviously they’ve gained popularity because they’re great names).
[name_f][/name_f]
So I’m looking for any suggestions of other first names I should maybe consider and/or positive thoughts on [name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m] or [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]! I really want to fall in love with a baby boy name, but I’m just a little worried that may not happen.
[name_m]George[/name_m] is such a handsome name, and such a sweet honor for your grandfather. I don’t find [name_m]George[/name_m] to be an “old man” name at all – instead he is timeless, literary, sturdy, versatile & cozy. One of my family friends has a son named [name_m]George[/name_m] and he is an absolutely adorable toddler with little glasses & a love for dinosaurs. On occasion they fondly call him [name_f]Georgie[/name_f]! [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m] is a great combo as well – I love the alliterative sounds & extensive history of the name.
[name_f][/name_f]
It seems to me like most of your other boy names are within the top 200, so I tried to stay below that with my suggestions. I tried to find a nice balance between that trendy feel & anything too “old man.” You also seem to like two syllable names, so I tried to incorporate that too.
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Abram[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]Augustine… or maybe “just” [name_m]Gus[/name_m]? (as an alternative to August) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Timothy[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Abel[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Griffin[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Lewis[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Harvey[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Simon[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Emmett[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Ellis[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Tobias[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Gideon[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Colin[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Russell[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Grady[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Franklin[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Jonah[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Alden[/name_m]
[name_f][/name_f]
I hope some of these strike your fancy, & that you’re able to find a name that makes you fall in love. Best of luck!
[name_m]Jorah[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m] (still biblical but waaaaaaaaaaaaaay less popular) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Merrick[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m] (feel like this strikes at the same soft-yet-stately vibe that [name_m]Silas[/name_m] and [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] hit while still being in the 900s) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Oswin[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Xavien[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Tristan[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m] (most popular of this suggestion set at 267…unsure if that’s too popular?)
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Thatcher[/name_m] (still get the TH sound without the popularity) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Thane[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Cassian[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Brennan[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Murdoch[/name_m]
Thank you @daisydarcy[name_f][/name_f] and @cms1512[name_f][/name_f]! I’m not exactly concerned with the exact ranking of a name on the charts, but more wanting to avoid a name that’s gained a lot of popularity/use recently. For example, [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] is another name sort of the in the back of my mind, and it’s in the top 100 I believe, but because it’s classic, it doesn’t feel trendy to me, if that makes sense?
[name_f][/name_f]
Anyway! [name_m]Jonah[/name_m], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], [name_m]Tristan[/name_m], [name_m]Alden[/name_m], and [name_m]Ellis[/name_m] are some for me to consider, so thank you for those!
@juliem1912[name_f][/name_f] I actually love [name_m]Elias[/name_m], but my brother is named [name_m]Eli[/name_m]. [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] reminded me of [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] as well, which I considered in the past, so I may have to come back to both of those! And [name_m]Finnian[/name_m] or maybe [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m] could be interesting… Thank you!
I personally love [name_m]George[/name_m] and [name_m]Judah[/name_m]! I think [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is really handsome.
[name_f][/name_f]
Some less trendy alternatives to your other names that you like: [name_f][/name_f][name_m]August[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- [name_m]Alistair[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Bennett[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- [name_m]Barrett[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Milo[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Arlo[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- [name_m]Enzo[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Silas[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f]- [name_m]Simon[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m]
When we were expecting our son, we worked hard to find names we both liked or at least tolerated but none of them really excited us. During my final trimester, one of my husband’s suggestions began to slowly grow on me. By the time he was born, I felt confident in the choice. So my attachment was a slow and gentle kind. It made me think that perhaps as my connection to my son grew, so did my connection to his name. Perhaps you’ll have a similar experience. It may not be the same experience you’ve had choosing your girl but there many paths to a good decision.
[name_f][/name_f]
Anyway, you have two solid choices that could grow on you further and that’s a great place to be in. I like [name_m]Judah[/name_m] a lot, I have it on my own list, but [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is the stand out for me. [name_m]George[/name_m] is traditional and classic, so it for me it feels timeless rather than old-timey. I also love the rhythm of [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and with it being the name of someone special to you, it’s very likely to stand the test of time. [name_f]Do[/name_f] any nicknames hold appeal? [name_m]Geordie[/name_m], [name_f]Georgie[/name_f], [name_m]Geo[/name_m], [name_m]Gee[/name_m] and [name_f]Jojo[/name_f] all come to mind.
[name_f][/name_f]
I’ll add some suggestions from my list and few others:
@SarahMadelyn[name_f][/name_f] Thank you! I do like [name_m]Alistair[/name_m] quite a bit, so that’ll go back on the list to reconsider.
[name_f][/name_f]
@kachenka[name_f][/name_f] Thank you for the anecdote! I do think that I will probably be happy with either choice if baby arrives and is a boy because it would be HIS name, and of course, I’m going to love him! I do like the classic feel of [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and find him traditional without being boring. [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Magnus[/name_m], [name_m]Edison[/name_m], [name_m]Sullivan[/name_m], [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m], [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] are all piquing my interest so I’ll think about those as well!
Congratulations! Not overly wowed with [name_m]Judah[/name_m].
[name_f][/name_f]
I would say [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is adorable, you could refer to him by his middle name “Theo” if [name_m]George[/name_m] feels too old for you? Otherwise here’s some classic names which aren’t trendy to go with [name_m]George[/name_m] as a middle name: [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Evan[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Ethan[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Ellis[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Kyle[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m]
[name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] has [name_f]British[/name_f], charming vibes [name_f][/name_f]- strong but not overly macho? [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m] is sweet, stylish and cool [name_f][/name_f]- well-established but fresh.
When [name_f][/name_f] I was pregnant with our first (and team green) [name_f][/name_f] I had lists and lists of names and Everytime we got in n the care I had 6 names per letter I would try out on my husband [name_f][/name_f], with our daughter we found out the gender and she was instantaneously named ( not a single name from my lists from our first)
[name_f][/name_f]
I think [name_m]George[/name_m] and [name_m]Judah[/name_m] are both lovely. [name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m] sounds lovely and I LOVE the flow and the alliterative connection [name_f][/name_f]. [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] feels regal to me
[name_f][/name_f]
If you are looking for suggestions [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Louis[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Oscar[/name_m]
Thanks everyone! Multiple people have suggested [name_m]Ellis[/name_m], which does have a nice sound, so I may ponder that one a bit. @Greyblue[name_f][/name_f] I also like the [name_m]Max[/name_m] names, with [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] being my favorite, so thank you for reminding me of him!
[name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m] gets my vote of the two. I love to honor family, but also still give a child their own individuality. [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is a great, strong name, but I would love [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m]. If you went with [name_m]George[/name_m] as his first name, you could spice it up and give him some individuality by calling him [name_f]Georgie[/name_f] or [name_m]Geo[/name_m] (wildcard).
[name_f][/name_f]
You have had some amazing suggestions above, so I apologize for any repeats.
I’d say stick with [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]. It’s handsome, wonderfully regal, and has a nice balance of sounds (the bluntness of [name_m]George[/name_m] vs the sharper Theodore).
[name_f][/name_f]
I love [name_m]George[/name_m], it’s very strong but quite sweet to me. I was surprised to find out others consider it dated, it’s a classic in my book. I wouldn’t risk trying to guess a George’s age from his name.
[name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m] is sweet!
[name_f][/name_f]
We put family names in the middle spot with our kids, AND my youngest’s middle is [name_m]George[/name_m]! For those two reasons, I’m biased toward that option for you.
[name_f][/name_f]
Other ideas for a combos with [name_m]George[/name_m]:
Thank you guys for some great suggestions and the love for my current options! [name_m]Owen[/name_m], [name_m]Everett[/name_m], Lachlan/Lochlan, [name_m]Henry[/name_m], and [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] are some that I’m liking
[name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m] is lovely! [name_f][/name_f] I like him a lot. [name_f][/name_f] I want to love [name_m]George[/name_m] as a first name but he just has never fully grown on me. [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]Love[/name_f] the idea of him as an honor name! [name_f][/name_f] Here’s a few additional ideas for you:
@ashthedreamer[name_f][/name_f] Thank you for these comments and suggestions!
[name_f][/name_f]
Hormones are so wacky and I’m definitely feeling sad again today that no names seem right. I know that I probably need to just take some time and not focus on names, but that’s much easier said than done! I truly appreciate everyone’s help and I know deep down that if this baby is a boy, we will find a name eventually. I just wish I had the confidence to say “This one’s perfect!”
