I definitely prefer [name_m]Merrick[/name_m]. I don’t think it sounds girly at all or made up. Personally, I can’t hear [name_m]Nixon[/name_m] without thinking of the president.

I dislike both.

[name_m]Nixon[/name_m] because of [name_m]Richard[/name_m]
[name_m]Merrick[/name_m] becsuse of the Elephant man

Between the two I definitely prefer [name_m]Merrick[/name_m]. With [name_m]Nixon[/name_m] I automatically thought of the President, and I’m British!
I like that you can get the nn [name_m]Rick[/name_m] or [name_f]Merry[/name_f] for [name_m]Merrick[/name_m].

I think [name_m]Merrick[/name_m] would be a great choice, and I don’t think it sounds girly or invented at all - in fact, I’ve seen it used frequently as a surname! It also goes wonderfully with [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]!

I’ve always liked the name [name_m]Nixon[/name_m]. The association doesn’t bother me, he will fade in time. I’ve met a little [name_m]Nixon[/name_m] and he was so adorable, definitely don’t hold back on the name if it’s ultimately what you choose.

[name_m]Merrick[/name_m] is not my style but if I met a kid with the name I wouldn’t think twice. It fits in with the surname-as-first-name trend and doesn’t sound made up.

I very much dislike [name_m]Nixon[/name_m] because I immediately think of the president, who is not exactly someone I’d personally want people thinking I named my child after.

A major figure in American history is going to “fade in time”…?

I voted for [name_m]Merrick[/name_m]. I think it sounds more appealing than [name_m]Nixon[/name_m], and it has the versatile vibe that you’re going for. Plus, I think that [name_m]Merrick[/name_m] and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] sounds nicer than [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_m]Nixon[/name_m].

I love [name_m]Merrick[/name_m]! So charming and friendly.

I really think if you are in the US that [name_m]Nixon[/name_m] is an awful choice. I’m sorry! I hate to be so negative but I really think people will associate it with the president. Unless you’re a big [name_m]Nixon[/name_m] fan, don’t do it! Once again I apologize for being so negative! I hate to poo-poo on a name :frowning:

[name_m]Merrick[/name_m] makes me think of [name_m]Merrick[/name_m] [name_m]Galand[/name_m]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] wanted to mention the association in case it hadn’t occurred to you. I prefer it to [name_m]Nixon[/name_m] though–the connection to the president is really strong.

I far prefer [name_m]Merrick[/name_m]! So handsome. I don’t see the appeal of [name_m]Nixon[/name_m].

[name_m]Merrick[/name_m] makes me think of the sleepy crane from [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] the Tank Engine  my son was obsessed for a good year with all things [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] so that is all I can think of (not bad, though) but I definitely prefer it to [name_m]Nixon[/name_m].

I see that I’m in the minority here but I much prefer [name_m]Nixon[/name_m]. Take it from someone with a family member with the name of a color (think [name_u]Blue[/name_u], I don’t want to post his actual name because it’s not my place to post it on the internet) as soon as your baby is here you won’t think of any previous associations. [name_m]Nixon[/name_m] is lovely and a perfect fit for a little boy!

I like both!

I voted for [name_m]Merrick[/name_m] and it sounds like a wonderful name.

I know that [name_m]Nixon[/name_m] has been rising in popularity recently, but I have to say that’s quite a surprise, and I don’t know the reason for the sudden surge in Nixons. Maybe it’s simply parents who have the name in their own family?

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Merrick[/name_u]! Have a great friend named [name_m]Merrick[/name_m] and he’s a great guy!

I voted for [name_m]Merrick[/name_m]. I much prefer it over [name_m]Nixon[/name_m], which remind me of the former president I have a young teen nephew named [name_m]Merrick[/name_m] (no nickname). His sister is Ph0ebe.
