[name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I are expecting our first - a boy - and struggling with the name. We both liked [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lindy[/name_f] for a girl, but we can’t agree on a boy’s name.
He’s dead set on [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] [name_u]Seth[/name_u]. I like [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] just fine but it sounds very similar to my name (a unique spelling of Michaela) and since my name is so often mispronounced I answer to literally anything remotely similar. I’m trying to come up with some alternative names that we might compromise on.
We both like [name_u]Seth[/name_u] but not as a first name. [name_f]My[/name_f] boy name pick was [name_u]David[/name_u] [name_m]Alan[/name_m] (both honor names) but I’m not set on it. I don’t like it nearly as much as he loves [name_m]Caleb[/name_m].
I don’t really want another R name because I do want to save that for [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] if we have a girl (I hate repeating initials) but we do like a lot of R names - [name_m]Rupert[/name_m], [name_m]Ralph[/name_m], [name_u]Robert[/name_u]
We also like a lot of W names that sound horrible with our last name (Welch) - [name_m]Winston[/name_m], [name_u]William[/name_u], [name_u]Wesley[/name_u], [name_u]Walter[/name_u]
Some other names we’ve discussed and liked are [name_u]Henry[/name_u] (really popular) [name_u]Dorian[/name_u], [name_u]Darian[/name_u], [name_m]Silas[/name_m], [name_m]Simon[/name_m], [name_m]Tobias[/name_m], [name_m]Felix[/name_m], [name_m]Garrett[/name_m], [name_m]Gavin[/name_m], [name_u]Spencer[/name_u], [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] and [name_m]Colin[/name_m].
I don’t like anything super popular- basically trying to stay out of the top 25, don’t like any -ayden or -son ending names as a rule.
Thoughts on more suggestions for us or the names on our list? Thanks!
[name_m]Hi[/name_m]!
Some suggestions below in which I added the names you liked and some new ones
[name_m]Silas[/name_m] [name_u]Seth[/name_u]
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m] [name_m]Alan[/name_m]
[name_u]Theo[/name_u] [name_u]Spencer[/name_u]
[name_m]Conrad[/name_m] [name_u]Seth[/name_u]
[name_m]Colin[/name_m] [name_u]David[/name_u]
[name_m]Caleb[/name_m] [name_u]Reid[/name_u]
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps!
Your style is really nice! Mostly timeless, ageless classics. You can’t go wrong, no matter what you choose. I personally like most of the ones you’re considering, with the exceptions of maybe [name_m]Winston[/name_m], [name_u]Darian[/name_u], [name_m]Rupert[/name_m], & [name_m]Ralph[/name_m].
I think it might be worth reconsidering using an R name, if there’s one that you and your DH particularly like and can agree on.
If you do have a [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] and call her [name_f]Lindy[/name_f], does it really matter if her brother is [name_u]Robert[/name_u]? You might like [name_u]Bobby[/name_u] or [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] as a nickname. In that case your two kids are, say, [name_f]Lindy[/name_f] and [name_u]Bobby[/name_u] in everyday life, and [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] and [name_u]Robert[/name_u] just on their birth certificates.
Otherwise, here’s a couple of other suggestions that sound great as a brother to [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]:
[name_m]Caleb[/name_m] [name_u]Seth[/name_u] is nice - cool and charming - but it doesn’t sound like you love it.
You have some nice choices on your list!
[name_u]Dorian[/name_u] and [name_u]Darian[/name_u] are cool - especially [name_u]Dorian[/name_u]! I feel like it would be cool to do an A middle name to honour [name_u]David[/name_u] and [name_m]Alan[/name_m]? like [name_u]Dorian[/name_u] [name_m]Aled[/name_m], [name_u]Dorian[/name_u] [name_m]Alec[/name_m], [name_u]Dorian[/name_u] [name_m]Alastair[/name_m], [name_u]Dorian[/name_u] [name_u]Arthur[/name_u]? I also like [name_m]Silas[/name_m], [name_m]Tobias[/name_m], [name_m]Felix[/name_m] and Conrad!!
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]! I’m gonna second @Chococat and suggest [name_m]Calvin[/name_m]. Similar to [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] without the [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] confusion and I love [name_m]Calvin[/name_m] [name_u]Seth[/name_u]! It goes so well with [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f], both being familiar yet vintage names that aren’t heard of every day!
I think [name_m]Winston[/name_m] [name_m]Welch[/name_m] is very handsome. [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] and [name_m]Winston[/name_m] make a wonderful sibset. I like some of your other choices a lot better than [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] or [name_u]David[/name_u]. I feel they don’t really compliment the gorgeous [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]. Others that you mentioned that I feel compliment [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] or each other in case you have more boys are
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] and
[name_m]Winston[/name_m]
[name_m]Gavin[/name_m]
[name_u]Spencer[/name_u]
[name_m]Conrad[/name_m]
[name_m]Colin[/name_m]
You have a lot of great choices!!! None are bad.
When I read just the title of your post these are the name I thought of……
[name_u]Noah[/name_u]
[name_m]Isaac[/name_m]
[name_u]Elijah[/name_u]
[name_m]Ethan[/name_m]
[name_m]Jacob[/name_m]
[name_u]Jonah[/name_u]
After reading the entry and seeing some of the names you like; finding out you are looking for less common names, here are additional suggestions……
[name_m]Reuben[/name_m]
[name_m]Eben[/name_m]
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]
[name_m]Merrick[/name_m]
[name_u]Corbin[/name_u]
[name_m]Malcolm[/name_m]
[name_m]Bronson[/name_m]
[name_m]Byron[/name_m]
[name_m]Deacon[/name_m]
[name_u]Everett[/name_u]
[name_m]Garrett[/name_m]
[name_u]Curtis[/name_u]
[name_m]Kenneth[/name_m]
[name_m]Vincent[/name_m]
[name_m]Simon[/name_m]
[name_u]Daniel[/name_u]
[name_m]Phelan[/name_m]
[name_m]Damian[/name_m]
Thank you! I really liked [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] but he shot it down. [name_f]My[/name_f] mom brought up the excellent point that [name_m]Colin[/name_m] honors a [name_u]Collins[/name_u] (surname on his side) which might be nice.
I’d do [name_m]Colin[/name_m] [name_m]Alan[/name_m] if it didn’t sound awful but maybe I could do [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] [name_f]Alana[/name_f] later.
These are some great suggestions! We actually already have [name_u]Daniel[/name_u], [name_m]Jacob[/name_m], and [name_u]Curtis[/name_u] in our family so those are taken but I love your other suggestions. We’ve definitely talked about [name_m]Garrett[/name_m] before as well
You make an excellent point about R names - I do like [name_u]Robert[/name_u] but if he went by [name_u]Bobby[/name_u] I’d be doomed to a life of [name_m]King[/name_m] of the [name_m]Hill[/name_m] references! Which isn’t a horrible thing but it is inevitable (also why [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] is off the table )
Hadn’t thought of [name_u]Bertie[/name_u] as a nn I do like that!
You could do [name_u]Collins[/name_u] [name_m]Alan[/name_m]. That breaks up the two names nicely and improves the flow. [name_u]Collins[/name_u] works well on a boy just like all the other popular surnames ending in a s. (e.g. [name_u]Brooks[/name_u], [name_u]Rhodes[/name_u], [name_u]Banks[/name_u], [name_m]Wells[/name_m], Townes).
