So I’ve posted on here a lot about how hard boy names have been for me. We have the list narrowed down to four, but still not loving anything. Am I being too desperate at trying to [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] a name? [name_m]Will[/name_m] I just figure it out once he’s born? I’d like to have a name in advance. Depending on the first name, his middle name will be [name_u]Francis[/name_u] or [name_m]William[/name_m] (family names), and where either would work, I prefer [name_u]Francis[/name_u].
So here is what we have, and I already know these names don’t get the best feedback. What type of little boy and grown man do you picture with these names?
[name_m]Miles[/name_m] (only turnoff is that it is too popular, should I stop worrying about that?)
[name_m]Walden[/name_m] (love the nn [name_u]Wally[/name_u] for a little boy, not necessarily an adult, though)
[name_m]Clyde[/name_m] (probably my favorite at the moment, and I also like that it has a history with popularity like his older sister’s name)
[name_m]Huck[/name_m] (boyfriend’s favorite, but my only concern is that it is a name without much history, and it will date him)
Thanks in advance for the feedback. We aren’t really looking for other names, or to use them as nicknames.
My favorites from your list are [name_m]Clyde[/name_m] and [name_m]Walden[/name_m]. I think they hit that balance of being familiar and easy to pronounce without being popular. And I think they both pair well with [name_f]Fern[/name_f]. Especially [name_m]Walden[/name_m], as they both have a naturey vibe, while still feeling old-fashioned.
My fave is definitely [name_m]Miles[/name_m] [name_u]Francis[/name_u]. Another idea is [name_m]Milo[/name_m] [name_u]Francis[/name_u].
[name_m]Walden[/name_m] is nice; if you like [name_u]Wally[/name_u], [name_u]Wallace[/name_u] is another way to get there. [name_m]Walden[/name_m] doesn’t really sound like the kind of name you would go by in full (as an adult), whereas [name_u]Wallace[/name_u] does, more so anyway. But I do like it with [name_f]Fern[/name_f] for the nature connection.
[name_m]Clyde[/name_m] is not my favorite. And [name_m]Huck[/name_m] I have trouble separating from [name_m]Huckleberry[/name_m] [name_u]Finn[/name_u]. Plus it is too nickname-y to me for a given name. Maybe as a nickname? (for a name other than [name_m]Huckleberry[/name_m]!)
Unrelated, but maybe you’d like [name_m]Harvey[/name_m]?
I love [name_m]Walden[/name_m] [name_u]Francis[/name_u]. [name_m]Miles[/name_m] [name_u]Francis[/name_u] is great too; I just like [name_m]Walden[/name_m] better as a name and next to [name_f]Fern[/name_f].
[name_m]Clyde[/name_m] just doesn’t do it for me. [name_m]Huck[/name_m] sounds more nicknamey than anything.
[name_m]Walden[/name_m] is a great name and sounds nice with [name_f]Fern[/name_f]-which I love btw.
[name_m]Walden[/name_m] can be wally when he is a little tyke and [name_u]Alden[/name_u], [name_u]Denny[/name_u], Alen, etc when he is older and prefers a more mature name.
I like the other names enough, but [name_m]Walden[/name_m] is refreshing amongst so many [name_m]Wills[/name_m], [name_m]Williams[/name_m], Wyatts, etc. [name_m]Walden[/name_m] is handsome and unique, something different without sounding odd or being a bully magnet.
[name_m]Walden[/name_m] [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] (hugh is handsome and could be a cousin of [name_m]Huck[/name_m]? ) Have you considered two middle names? The you and your bf might be satisfied. [name_m]Huck[/name_m], [name_m]Hugh[/name_m], or whatever could be his second middle.
As long as you both agree on a first name, you can choose the middle name, and he can choose a second middle. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a thought…
[name_m]Walden[/name_m] [name_m]Miles[/name_m] or [name_m]Walden[/name_m] [name_m]Miles[/name_m] [name_m]Huck[/name_m]
[name_m]Walden[/name_m] [name_m]Clyde[/name_m] or [name_m]Walden[/name_m] [name_m]Hayes[/name_m]
[name_m]Walden[/name_m] [name_m]Hyatt[/name_m] or [name_m]Walden[/name_m] [name_u]Hunter[/name_u]
I like [name_m]Clyde[/name_m] best from your list, with [name_m]Walden[/name_m] a close second. I do not think [name_u]Wallace[/name_u] would work for you, though it was suggested. [name_u]Wallace[/name_u] [name_u]Francis[/name_u] ends in the same sound, and [name_u]Wallace[/name_u] [name_m]William[/name_m] may be over the top (think [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_u]Wallace[/name_u]). [name_m]Clyde[/name_m] [name_u]Francis[/name_u] gets my vote.
[name_m]Miles[/name_m] [name_u]Francis[/name_u] is soooooo handsome! I think [name_m]Miles[/name_m] can be anything. Studious, athletic, kind, business minded. By far the best on your list.
Thanks for all the input so far! I, too, really like [name_u]Francis[/name_u] as the middle name and how it pairs especially with [name_m]Miles[/name_m] and [name_m]Walden[/name_m]. [name_m]Clyde[/name_m] [name_u]Francis[/name_u] is growing on me, but it doesn’t have the same ring.
And emsky, funny that you’d mention a lot of the things you did. Not really interested in [name_u]Wallace[/name_u], but that is my “sister-in-law’s” cat’s name. My boyfriend vetoed [name_m]Milo[/name_m] long ago, as well as [name_m]Harvey[/name_m], which I love. And the whole reason we chose [name_m]Huck[/name_m] was because of [name_m]Huckleberry[/name_m]. My bf loves [name_m]Huckleberry[/name_m], so I agreed upon using that as a nn, but [name_m]Huck[/name_m] as his official name. Kind of doing things backwards, haha.
And I like the idea of two middle names, but he will already have two last names since we’re hyphenating it. So many names!
I love [name_m]Walden[/name_m] [name_u]Francis[/name_u]. I think it pairs perfectly with [name_f]Fern[/name_f]. You could call him [name_u]Wade[/name_u] as a nn and continue the naturey vibe.
I totally feel you on boys names. Girls names come way more easily to me. First off all your names are great and pair well with sister [name_f]Fern[/name_f].
[name_m]Miles[/name_m]: it’s a good name but the popularity turns me off. If its by fr your fave then go for it but say you love [name_m]Miles[/name_m] and [name_m]Clyde[/name_m] the same amount I would go w the least popular.
[name_m]Walden[/name_m]: this is a great name and love the Walky nickname
[name_m]Clyde[/name_m]: a good solid name.
[name_m]Huck[/name_m]: I had [name_m]Huckleberry[/name_m] nn [name_m]Huck[/name_m] on my boys list when I was preg w my son and nameberries did NOT like this name. I think it’s amazing and fun.
My son is named [name_m]Clyde[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m]! [name_m]Clyde[/name_m] [name_u]Francis[/name_u] is great, too. From my experience with the name people seem to respond favorably for the most part. I think it is in that sweet spot of being recognizable, easy to spell and pronounce, and it is highly uncommon. So, I’d vote for [name_m]Clyde[/name_m]. We have never met another little [name_m]Clyde[/name_m].
[name_m]Miles[/name_m] - I think of an adorable little boy I knew in elementary school with bright blonde hair and thick black glasses. I love this name though, I’ve given up on caring if it’s popular or not.
[name_m]Walden[/name_m] - love this and [name_u]Wally[/name_u]! Probably my favorite of your choices.
[name_m]Clyde[/name_m] - I would probably enjoy this name if it wasn’t my best friends cat’s name growing up.
[name_m]Huck[/name_m] - not so much. It’s a good thought but idk if it’d go over well.
My two favourites are [name_m]Clyde[/name_m] & [name_m]Miles[/name_m]. I prefer [name_u]Francis[/name_u] with [name_m]Clyde[/name_m], and [name_m]William[/name_m] with [name_m]Miles[/name_m].
As an aside, I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] the name [name_f]Fern[/name_f], its my very favourite So happy to see it in use in real life…well internet life…!
[name_m]How[/name_m] funny! Go figure, we pick an uncommon name and then the same middle I’m leaning towards [name_u]Francis[/name_u], though, since they both work. And that sweet spot is just what’s we’re looking for – something recognizable and old fashioned, but highly uncommon. [name_f]Glad[/name_f] to hear of a little [name_m]Clyde[/name_m]!
