Boy Names for a Girl: Ambrose

I just came across the boy’s name [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] and I fell in love with it  However, I think it would also be really cute on girl. It sounds like a combination of the names [name_f]Amber[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. What do you think of it on a girl?

i totally agree! i like it better on a girl, plus ambrose is a great way to get the nickname rosie!

i strongly dislike it, sorry. even though it includes the ‘rose’ sound, it still sounds mostly masculine to me. (and honestly, why can’t ‘rose’ be masculine too? there’s no reason that that sound is reserved for feminine names.)

[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] is extremely boy to me.

I think it could work as a middle name, but I much prefer it for a boy.

I love [name_f]Ambrosia[/name_f] and [name_f]Ambrosine[/name_f] on girls but, [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] is a boy name only, in my opinion.

Cute!! I’m not a big fan of Ambrose, but I definitely like it better picturing it on a girl! Rosie is a cute nickname.

It’s a boy name. Maybe [name_f]Ambrosia[/name_f] :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I think it could work though I do prefer it on a boy. As a middle name for a girl it would be cool though

This name is very masculine too me and in my eyes should stay with the boys. Why not [name_f]Ambrosia[/name_f]?

I don’t love the name in general but if I were to use it I prefer it for a girl. It does seem like it “should” be a girl name since it has more traditionally feminine sounds. Which doesn’t mean a boy can’t have a more feminine sounding name (I think [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] and [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] both sound feminine as well) but I don’t see why a girl couldn’t wear it as well.

I personally think Ambrose is stunning for a little girl. There are so many cute nickname options (Rosie, Rose, Amy, Amber) that could lead it more feminine. It’s like Julian on a girl. Julian is typically masculine but it has the nicknames Jules and Juli to make it more feminine. I personally would LOVE to me a girl named Ambrose.
That being said, I feel like Ambrose is very well rooted as being masculine, so it may be confusing.

I like it for a girl! I’ve never thought about it before, but it sounds like a main character to me. If [name_u]Logan[/name_u] can be a girl now, why not [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]?

I can totally see it on a girl, but I like it better for boy.

I prefer on a boy. I like the suggestion of [name_f]Ambrosia[/name_f]

I know a little boy called [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] but Only him. It’s such a rare name that I don’t think it matters whether you use it for a boy or girl. I really like it. Go for it!

I actually like [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] for a boy. And this is usually a feminine name. But I don’t care. Go with what makes your heart sing. X

i had never heard of the name ambrose a few years back and i honestly thought it was a girl name the first time i heard it. as you said it really is like a combination of amber and rose which is why i was shocked it was originally a boy name. so yes imo it’s cute for a girl!!

Julianne is actually a common name for a girl where i’m from so Julian could be a feminine name!
