Boy names to go with Charlotte

[name]Hi[/name] everyone,

So I’ve got a tricky name situation to find something for. We are expecting our second child - a boy! We have a little girl now named [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Grace[/name]. I love her name as it’s soft and girly but classic. It’s also “plain” because the last name is a mouthful  The last name is [name]Henry[/name] Castonguay (cas-ton-gay). We’ve been searching and searching for a classic name to go with [name]Charlotte[/name] that also sounds good with Castonguay. I’m thinking two syllables first name and 1 syllable middle name the same as our girl, but everyone is giving us options and the ones I like my husband doesn’t like and vice versa. And none of them are jumping out at me like it did with our first child. So far the only ones that are somewhat agreeable to both of us is [name]Colin[/name] and [name]Logan[/name]. I would love some thoughts and ideas from non-biased sources!

[name]Hi[/name] and welcome to nameberry. You have the most wonderful surname and because [name]Charlotte[/name] has a French connection it works beautifully.

I think you need a name with pizzazz to match your surname and to compliment [name]Charlotte[/name]'s name.

The question is how daring do you want to be?

I can see a [name]Montague[/name] [name]Frederick[/name] or perhaps a [name]Percy[/name] [name]George/name or perhaps the dashing [name]Adair[/name] [name]William[/name].

Thanks for the feedback so far. Lots to consider but unfortunately hubby is not being cooperative. He has decided [name]Logan[/name] is the name and doesn’t understand why I’m still looking. I’m just not in love with [name]Logan[/name] and need to find one that wows him too. As for the daring names, I’m a fan of them, but hubby is all about traditional and simple. Keep the suggestions coming - love them all!

[name]Hi[/name] mhenry good to get some feedback. I think after naming one child [name]Charlotte[/name] it would be a real shame to give your next child the name [name]Logan[/name]. It is a trendy name and trendy names become dated very quickly, and [name]Logan[/name] in no way compliments your surname or [name]Charlotte[/name]. I can see why you don’t like [name]Logan[/name] it is not the right fit.

I will try to suit your husband’s taste ie traditional and simple, but first up [name]Logan[/name] is not a traditional name or a classic. The following names would be considered traditional and simple while complimenting your daughter [name]Charlotte[/name] and your gorgeous surname.

[name]Alexander[/name] This name is hard to beat it is eternally popular and very classy
[name]Simon[/name] This name speaks of intelligence, refinement and may be a good substitute for [name]Logan[/name] with the endings being similar
[name]Miles[/name] You just can’t go wrong using this name, it is handsome, classic, classy and unique
[name]James[/name] Like [name]Alexander[/name] an eternal favourite, very handsome and a very good fit all round
[name]Nicholas[/name] He is another intelligent and smart guy with lots of class
[name]William[/name] is a good one because you get the modern [name]Liam[/name] as a nickname and that may appeal to your husband
[name]Joseph[/name] traditional, timeless, classic

I like rollo’s suggestions of
[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Henry[/name] Castonguay
as [name]Alex[/name] [name]Henry[/name] Castonguay also sounds great.
[name]Alexander[/name] [name]Joel[/name] [name]Henry[/name] Castonguay
[name]Alexander[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Alex[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name]

I also liked [name]Lucas[/name] [name]Henry[/name] Castonguay
as [name]Luke[/name] [name]Henry[/name] Castonguay sound classic
[name]Lucas[/name] [name]James[/name] [name]Henry[/name] Castonguay gives you the 2,1 with your last name
[name]Lucas[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name]

[name]Callum[/name] [name]James[/name] [name]Henry[/name] Castonguay
[name]Cal[/name] [name]Henry[/name] Castonguay
[name]Callum[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name]

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. I’ll have to talk to my hubby tonight and see what he thinks. Does anyone like the name [name]Colin[/name]? It’s one that I keep coming back to although hubby isn’t sold. I just think [name]Colin[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name] sound nice together. Plus [name]Colin[/name] isn’t too popular but is still kinda of classic. [name]Colin[/name] ____ [name]Henry[/name] Castonguay. I think it might work. But I like a lot of the suggestions too. So much to talk about!

I’m not sure about [name]Colin[/name], it hasn’t quite lost it’s fustiness for me, and I think in most of UK/[name]Ireland[/name] it’s still a bit dated. I think with [name]Charlotte[/name] you need an all-time consistent classic like [name]Alexander[/name] or [name]George[/name]. [name]Logan[/name] is not bad! [name]How[/name] about it in the middle position?

I think [name]Rollo[/name] has some cracking classic suggestions! I was going to say [name]Henry[/name] to go with [name]Charlotte[/name] but that’s in your name anyway!

From pp and some new suggestions, I like [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Grace[/name] [name]Henry[/name] Castonguay with

[name]Hugo[/name] [name]Colin[/name] [name]Henry[/name] Castonguay
[name]Alistair[/name] [name]Logan[/name] [name]Henry[/name] Castonguay
[name]Theo[/name] [name]Colin[/name] [name]Henry[/name] Castonguay
[name]George[/name] [name]Logan[/name] [name]Henry[/name] Castonguay
[name]James[/name] [name]Logan[/name] [name]Henry[/name] Castonguay
[name]Sebastian[/name] something [name]Henry[/name] Castonguay

[name]Just[/name] a question about your last name - is it [name]Henry[/name] from one parent and Castonguay from another? We still can’t figure out whether to double-barrel our surnames for our children (a mouthful) or leave them separate like yours. [name]How[/name] did you decide?

  • [name]Ginny[/name]

[name]Hi[/name] [name]Ginny[/name],

The two last names are from each parent. I didn’t change my name when I got married but kept my name, so we have different last names. When we had to decide on naming our first child we were just going to go with my husband’s name, but haivng worked in the school system previously I knew how frustrating it was for a mother to call when he name didn’t match her child. The other consideration was travel. We live in [name]Canada[/name] and often travel to the US, so if I were to travel alone with my child and she didn’t have my last name I would need a letter of permission from my husband to go across the border. I thought that was ridiculous, so we decided to go with both last names. But we also decided not to hyphenate them so that they are still two seperate names. The thinking behind that was that in practice we would only use one last name and when the children grow up they could drop one name and use the one they chose. In practice so far it is a bit challenging because her legal name and her used name are different but overall I’m still happy we went with both names.

Quesiton for you: what is fustiness? That’s a new word for me. I love the name Alistiar and many of your other suggestions. The problem is convincing the hubby who is quite boring in his name preferences! [name]Silly[/name] men!

Thanks for the explanation! We’re thinking the same. So the legal last name would be hyphenated but in practice they are written and recorded at school etc separately? That seems sensible.

Fusty just means old-fashioned or neglected - an old sweater that’s been in the attic for a decade might smell a bit fusty. Sorry, that sounds really negative now - [name]Colin[/name] isn’t THAT bad, and maybe it’s time it was dusted off anyway!

Tell the hubby to research [name]Alistair[/name] and he’ll see it’s quite a plain old traditional name - at least it is in [name]Scotland[/name]!

[name]Hi[/name] [name]Ginny[/name] - so the legal last name is two seperate last names, no hyphen. [name]Just[/name] two names in the last name spot. And at daycare she’s got both last names on her official record, but just uses Castonguay in practice. Think it will likely work the same at school when she reaches that age. I thought once we picked the first name the name battle would be over, but every step of the way if a big decision!

[name]Will[/name] chat with hubby tonight about all the wonderful suggestions and see if I can get him on board with something other than [name]Logan[/name]. It’s too trendy and popular for me. I want something recognizable but not overly used. Classic but not boring. It’s so hard. [name]Charlotte[/name]'s name just came ot me one day when I was going to work and I fell in love with it. I wish it would work the same this time!

I am sorry I would not use [name]Colin[/name] it is definitely fusty. [name]Even[/name] when I was at school a long time ago I thought that [name]Colin[/name] was an insignificant style of name. I think a modern update on the name would be [name]Callum[/name].

I think [name]Cameron[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name] would make a good pair I have always thought he had lots of style and I think [name]Camden[/name] with [name]Charlotte[/name] is right on the money, but think about whether you want to create a theme of C named children because if you have a third child you have to decide if you are going to continue the C theme and that is important.

PS ynnig’s suggestion of [name]Alistair[/name] is great, love it!
