boy or girl - what are your guilty pleasure names?

wow, that sounded a bit rude.

What are the names that you love, but probably won’t use because they are too out there, trendy, unique, what ever your excuse!

Mine for a girl - [name]Zephyrine[/name]
and for a boy - [name]Rafferty[/name]

Girls:
[name]Artemis[/name] - a little out there and my name is [name]Diana[/name]
Rapunzel - out there, common fairy tale character, and now Disney
[name]Euphemia[/name] - still trying to convince fiance’ to use it if we have twin girls, but it is a little out there, I just love the sound and the nn [name]Euphie[/name]

Boys:
[name]Severus[/name] - harry potter character and not a common name

Girl: [name]Hermione[/name]

Boy: [name]Frederick[/name] “[name]Freddie[/name]”

It’s funny, gblondie, that [name]Zephyrine[/name] is a GP for you. I’m using it! See signature for combo.

Boys:

Words names like [name]Finch[/name], [name]Fox[/name], [name]Poet[/name], etc…
[name]Dorian[/name] – I would use it, but it’s too much with [name]Damien[/name]
[name]Felix[/name] – makes a ton of people i’ve talked to think of Cats
[name]Lafayette[/name] – people seem to think of it as pretentious
[name]Lysander[/name] – would use it, but I don’t think it works well with our other names
[name]Valerian[/name] – [name]Roman[/name] Emperor but everyone thinks of roots
Alastor – bad deity in Greek mythology and sort of an insult in the Greek language
Hyperion – It’s a little super heroy
[name]Icarus[/name] – the association is a little too sad for me
[name]Peregrine[/name] – I would use it, but it’s so different from everything else.
Meriadoc – LOTR [name]Fan[/name]!
Acheron – the [name]River[/name] of Sorrow…it’s a little much

Girls:

[name]Anastasia[/name] – to princessy to me (even though [name]Guinevere[/name] isn’t >.<)
Morrigan – I would love to use it but I don’t think it’s a little weird since the Goddess Morrigan doesn’t mean anything to my husband or I
Morgana – I love it, but think the connection to the evil sister of Arthur, and paired with a sister named Guinevere, is a little much
Thalia – I speak Greek, the pronunciation in Greek is Thay-lee-uh, but no one believe me and everyone says it tal-yuh so I wouldn’t use it because of that
Lorien – LOTR fan here  Loth Lorien is a great and beautiful place, but I don’t think my husbands on board. i like other LOTR names too like Galadriel, Arwen, and Aowen
Siobhan – not a lot of people IRL know how to say it and that holds me back
Andromeda – it’s a little too out there for most people to take
Echo – same
Soteria – It’s great but hubby’s so-so and most people will think it’s pretty weird
Nimiane – lady of the lake…again, paired with Guinevere…
Megaera and Megara – the first is a Fury in Greek mythology and the second is an ancient city
Laufey – low-fee (low rhymes with Cow) – the mother of Loki, but most people will think of her as a boy due to Marvel comics and won’t know how to pronounce it

And tons of other Greek myth names who have hard pronunciations, sad or evil people associated with them, etc

I love [name]Waldo[/name], [name]Atlas[/name], and [name]Ferdinand[/name] for boys, and [name]Hero[/name], [name]Marigold[/name], Valkyrie, and Solace for girls. Mind you, those boys’ names are in my top 10, and I could actually see myself using [name]Marigold[/name]. [name]Lilith[/name] and [name]Andromeda[/name] are two other old favorites that I had to nix. I also love [name]Cato[/name] and [name]Pollux[/name] for boys. Oh, and [name]Thisbe[/name], and [name]Vesper[/name], and [name]Prospero[/name]…I guess I have more GPs than I thought!

Boy: [name]Sebastian[/name], [name]Atticus[/name]
Girl: [name]Seraphina[/name] & [name]Winslet[/name]

I have so many GP names. I’ll just list the top 3 for each sex.

BOYS:
[name]Huckleberry[/name] - The nn [name]Huck[/name] is so cute.
[name]Xanthos[/name] - Probably a little much, but I love it.
[name]Erasmus[/name] - I’d use as a mn, but it’s probably too weighty as a first.

GIRLS:
[name]Guinevere[/name] - I’m afraid people would automatically think adulteress.
[name]Jemima[/name] - The syrup makes this a difficult one to carry in the US.
[name]Delilah[/name] - I can’t get past the negative connotations.

Girls
[name]Lynsey[/name]- It’s an uber trendy spelling of [name]Lindsay[/name], but I like it more than the original!
[name]Emmaleigh[/name] - I love [name]Emma[/name] and [name]Leigh[/name], and I think it’s cool how they make up [name]Emily[/name].
[name]Lilith[/name] - I love the sound, it’s pretty but grounded
[name]Delilah[/name]- Same as [name]Lilith[/name], lovely sound, but I can’t get past the Bible reference
[name]Jasmine[/name] - I can’t stand how popular the name is, and common its become. And the sound and nn [name]Jazzy[/name] annoys me, and I’m not even a fan of the Disney [name]Princess[/name] but for some reason I find myself rather fond of the name.

Boys
[name]Bentley[/name] - I love it, it’s cute, and I think it can mature well. The nn of [name]Ben[/name] is a great stabilizer. [name]Alas[/name], too Teen Mom and downmarket.
[name]Draco[/name] - It’s a strong name, and very cool. HP reference is a tad too strong though, perhaps I’ll stick it in the middle.
[name]Cato[/name] - I only know it due to The Hunger Games, but I loved it right away. However the character’s too negative for me to use atm. The fact that it’s an ancient [name]Roman[/name] name just makes me love it even more. Perhaps a middle spot.

Girls:
Duclinea
Ysaline
Genevrier
Satomi
Sayuri
[name]Honorine[/name]

Boys
[name]Riordan[/name]
Maxandre
[name]Ronan[/name]
[name]Calixte[/name]
[name]Anselm[/name]
Evariste
Emeric

on my phone don’t know how to do accents

oooh I like [name]Riordan[/name] (sounds kind of like re-order though)

Boys:
[name]Sherlock[/name] (yes, seriously, or should I say “no sh**?”) I may actually use it as a middle.
[name]Arkady[/name] (funky looking, yet old school eastern europe)
[name]Benedict[/name] (still connotations of treason in the US)
[name]Vlad[/name]

Girls:
[name]Jezebel[/name] (I love, love, love [name]Jezebel[/name] and feel kinda crappy that our cultural tradition has piled so much baggage on what is actually a very pretty name)
[name]Juniper[/name] (cool, crisp, modern, but I don’t know…)
[name]Lavender[/name] (maybe the nickname Lavvy being short for toilet is what put this on my guilty pleasure list).
[name]Zillah[/name] (pronounced like it looks, can’t escape the associations of bridezilla and godzilla though)
[name]Myfanwy[/name] (a gorgeous fairylike name)

Actually from what I understand (I am sort of unfamiliar with the name) it’s more like “reer den” but maybe I’m wrong or its an “either/or” prn?

For girls, I love Megara. She was in the actual myth of [name]Hercules[/name], not made up for the movie. It is a beautiful name, but people associate with the movie. And I probably would never have the guts to use it.

For boys, [name]Wolfgang[/name], [name]Octavian[/name], and [name]Aurelian[/name]. They all seem a bit to… astute; I guess?
For girls, [name]Astrid[/name], [name]Zenobia[/name], and Asami. With [name]Astrid[/name], it’s the first syllable. [name]Zenobia[/name] seems like a bit much, and Asami is… Well, Asami is a character in the [name]Legend[/name] of Korra series.

Girl: [name]Frazier[/name], [name]Morris[/name], [name]Ferris[/name] (i don’t think i will ever use a boyish name for a girl even though i love so many)
Boy: [name]Humphrey[/name], [name]Bartholomew[/name], [name]Zeppelin[/name]

and i adore [name]Ursula[/name] for a girl and that’s one “guilty pleasure” i would seriously consider using it!

[name]Verity[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Mabel[/name]
Glee

[name]Lysander[/name]
Hiram

Another one for me is [name]Odessa[/name].

Girl: [name]Marthe[/name] ([name]Martha[/name] in French, pronounced [name]Mart[/name] in English), [name]Agatha[/name], [name]Magdalena[/name]
Boy: [name]Cassius[/name], [name]Ambrose[/name]

[name]Don[/name]'t really have any for boys but for girls, it’s [name]Fable[/name] (nickname [name]Fae[/name]) and [name]Silver[/name].
