Our first baby is due in 2 weeks and whilst my husband and I agree on girls names, we’re finding it harder to decide on a preferred boys names. On our list are:
[name]Rafferty[/name] (Raf)
[name]Samuel[/name]/[name]Samson[/name] ([name]Sam[/name])
[name]Oliver[/name] ([name]Ollie[/name])
[name]Henry[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name]
The challenging thing is my husbands surname, which the baby will have. His surname is Killer. The baby will have my surname as a middle name, which is much more ‘normal’. My husband really likes [name]Oliver[/name] but I think [name]Oliver[/name] Killer might be a bit sing-song. I love [name]Rafferty[/name], but he’s concerned it might be a bit too different. We both agree on [name]Sam[/name] but think it might be a bit boring!
Ooh, that is a tough surname. Still, i think all the names on your list are very handsome. [name]Oliver[/name] Killer is a bit repetitive to me, so although I like the name, I would nix it. [name]Henry[/name] would have to be my favorite; I have it on my list as well. [name]Hugo[/name] is nice, though not my favorite in comparison to your other names. I think [name]Sam[/name] is a nice name… you could go with [name]Samson[/name], which is just slightly unexpected to prevent the name from seeming “boring”. I have to admit that I think [name]Rafferty[/name] sounds so nice with your surname… it’s very handsome. I don’t know if this helped… but no matter what name you choose, I don’t think you can go wrong!
I really like the name [name]Hugo[/name]. It’s spunky, unique, yet not unknown or awkward. I think it would be very cute for a little boy. If you want to go with [name]Sam[/name], the name [name]Samson[/name] is less widely used. As long as you’re ok with the odd Biblical story, it would make a nice option for you.
I think the more unusual first name, the better. It will draw more attention to the first name than the surname. [name]Rafferty[/name] is excellent! Plus it has the two f’s in a row, mirroring the two L’s in the last name.
While I love [name]Hugo[/name], I’m afraid it makes me think of ‘you go’ and combined with the last name, doesn’t sound great [name]IMO[/name].
I love [name]Rafferty[/name]! in fact, I like all the boys names on your list. But I agree with PP about the more uncommon the name, the more it detracts from the surname.
Those are definitely my favorites! I like [name]Henry[/name], too, but I agree that a somewhat unusual first name will be better at holding its own against your surname.
