I like [name]Fletcher[/name] for a boy, but my hubby is opposed to the idea… we were originally going with [name]Oliver[/name] - which he wasn’t too keen on either, but I have become more attached to the name [name]Fletcher[/name], does anyone else think it’s a soft name - i thought of it as quite strong?
i think fletcher is a great name- i like it alot…
i also love oliver tho too…
hmmm- tough choice.
I think [name]Fletcher[/name] is a strong name. [name]Fletcher[/name] is a great name, if any one teases him it wont be because of his name.
I don’t think [name]Fletcher[/name] is “soft” at all. Why does he think the baby will be teased? About the name in general??
I think it’s harder for boys to have more unusual or uncommon names in general and I imagine there’ll never be too many [name]Fletcher[/name]'s in his class at school but that doesn’t necessarily equal teasing when the name itself doesn’t offer any obvious jokes.
I do sort of see his point about it being ‘soft’ though. It’s not as soft as many male names could be but it’s not strong and sturdy either. The f softens it and as a word it’s quite gentle sounding. Saying that, it’s not overly soft, just not overly masculine and hard sounding. Maybe you should ask him what names he thinks are strong names.
[name]Fletcher[/name] is not soft. I get the image of bows and arrows when I hear this name and for good reason, since a fletcher is a maker of arrows. Again, really not soft.
That said, I really love handsome [name]Oliver[/name]
I’d certainly say [name]Fletcher[/name] is stronger-sounding than [name]Oliver[/name].
I dont think [name]Fletcher[/name] it weak at all. It fits right in with the popular [name]Carter[/name], [name]Cooper[/name], and [name]Parker[/name] imo. Then again I’ve been told I like “sissy” names on boys (primarily from my father). There is something about overly macho names that seems obsured to me, like you are trying to groom him into a line backer or harley driving biker before he’s even learned to walk. I dont know, maybe it is just me but I’d prefer my son to be a little more soft spoken and sweet.
They are both wonderful names, but [name]Fletcher[/name] is a much stronger name than [name]Oliver[/name]! [name]Even[/name] in sound alone, it has harder consonants.
Then you go with associations!
[name]Oliver[/name]: orphan boy waif
[name]Fletcher[/name]: arrow-maker
I know one [name]Fletcher[/name] and he is a punk rocker. So it doesn’t even sound remotely soft to me!
I think it’s a pretty cool name. It’s strong to me, makes me think of a detective in a movie, but on the other hand, also first thing that sprung to mind was [name]Jessica[/name] [name]Fletcher[/name] in old tv show Murder She Wrote…don’t know if this is something everyone is so familiar with, or just me??
[name]Fletcher[/name] is a wonderful name. I wish more boys were given this name.
[name]Remember[/name] [name]Fletcher[/name] [name]Christian[/name], Mutiny on the Bounty?
I like [name]Fletcher[/name] a lot. [name]Even[/name] shortened to [name]Fletch[/name] it is quite manly, unlike [name]Ollie[/name], which i like less and don’t think is particularly strong.
I think that [name]Fletcher[/name] is a great name however I really like [name]Oliver[/name] too;
other options could be;
[name]Fletcher[/name] [name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name] [name]Fletcher[/name]
[name]Hi[/name] everyone,
Thanks heaps for the feedback, I’ll be sure to drag hubby on the computer tonight and show him what other people are thinking about the name, he might change his mind
