Boys Name or Maybe a girl? *updated to add poll

Thoughts on Westyn/Westen/Westan for a girl? The alternate spellings, while not my favorite, seems more feminine than the traditional Weston.

I think [name_m]Weston[/name_m] could work; especially with a sweet and feminine middle. There are so many Sutton’s and Parker’s I think she’d fit right in! [name_m]Westyn[/name_m] is my second favorite spelling.

I prefer it on a boy, but I do think it could work on a girl! [name_m]Westyn[/name_m] looks the most feminine to me but the [name_m]Weston[/name_m] spelling would work perfectly well for a girl if you prefer that.

Thank you both! A little more background that I should have given to start with, [name_u]West[/name_u] is a family name that I really want to use. Afraid it is too [name_m]Kanye[/name_m] and [name_u]Kim[/name_u] by itself, our other two end in -en and -on, plus our last name is one syllable and four letters. [name_m]Hence[/name_m] the train of the thought to Weston… open to suggestions!

While I prefer it for a boy, I think it’s usable. Having the family link to the name [name_u]West[/name_u] makes it interesting. I do prefer the [name_m]Weston[/name_m] spelling. For me the other spellings don’t particularly feminise it.

Another idea is to find another name ending in en or on that you like and using [name_u]West[/name_u] as a middle name. That could work well, and is not so [name_u]Kim[/name_u] and [name_m]Kanye[/name_m]!

I think it could work. [name_m]Weston[/name_m] would be my preferred spelling but [name_m]Westyn[/name_m] couls work too

I agree with this. The family link is sweet and it sounds like a good fit for your family, although I really like the idea of West in the middle slot too.

I’d avoid the alternative spellings as I think they add an extra layer of complexity which doesn’t substantially change how feminine the name feels to me. Westyn is probably my second favourite option.

One other idea that springs to mind for a girl, especially paired with your short surname, is something like Westley or even Westerly/Westerley — inspired by names like Everly and Waverly. What do you think?

Going to second Westley/Westly.

I know a little toddler who is named [name_m]Westley[/name_m] but her parents really only ever call her [name_u]West[/name_u].

I don’t think of [name_m]Kanye[/name_m] and [name_u]Kim[/name_u] when I hear it.

Super cute.

I hate the name in general because of a personal association, but I’m especially not fond of it on a girl. If you want to name a girl [name_m]Weston[/name_m], just name her [name_m]Weston[/name_m]. You’re giving a girl a boy’s name any way.

Sorry it’s just too masculine to me for me to see it on a girl. However, since it is a family name I think it would be perfect in the middle slot, especially paired with a feminine first name.

For example, something like [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_u]West[/name_u], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]West[/name_u], or [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_u]West[/name_u] are all so lovely!

I would normally think of [name_m]Weston[/name_m] as a boy’s name, but I know little girls named [name_u]Easton[/name_u] so [name_m]Weston[/name_m] certainly isn’t a stretch!

[name_m]Westley[/name_m] is also cute and I could see it working for a girl as well, as others said.

[name_u]West[/name_u] on its own does make me think of [name_m]Kanye[/name_m] and [name_u]Kim[/name_u], but in the middle slot, it would work great with any other girl name

I’m the type to think any name is unisex especially when it’s a current name trend like -ton names, I imagine a little girl named [name_m]Weston[/name_m] the same way I imagine a girl [name_u]Drew[/name_u] and [name_u]Cameron[/name_u], I think it works well without the name change and don’t think [name_u]West[/name_u] is a staple of Kimye (I think it won’t be a problem given how [name_u]West[/name_u] is a family name) Out of the alternative spelling I like [name_m]Westen[/name_m] though I don’t find any to feminizes it to its full effect

I would personally stick with Weston!! I think this spelling would cause the least hassle and is still super sweet on a girl :yellow_heart:

I’m not really a fan of the alternate spellings. [name_m]Westyn[/name_m], [name_m]Westen[/name_m], and [name_m]Westan[/name_m] just look like mispellings to me not more feminine versions of [name_m]Weston[/name_m]. I agree with others that [name_m]Weston[/name_m] could work for a girl too spelled the same way!

[name_m]Weston[/name_m] seems a boy name to me, but it could work for a girl too. [name_m]Westyn[/name_m] seems a girl name to me, but I think I still prefer the [name_m]Weston[/name_m] spelling for a girl. [name_m]Westen[/name_m] and [name_m]Westan[/name_m] don’t seem names to me at all.

Thank you all!
I have always slightly favored boy names for girls, but also don’t want her to have a hard time her whole life. Would [name_u]West[/name_u] work as a first name (despite one syllable 4 letter last name)? [name_f]My[/name_f] concern with Westly or [name_m]Westley[/name_m] (which I like) is she would end up being called [name_u]West[/name_u] anyways or people will think it’s [name_u]Lesley[/name_u] instead. Appreciate the feedback!

I really like [name_m]Weston[/name_m]! It’s kinda masculine but so is my name and I’m a girl. [name_f]My[/name_f] parents solved this with a very feminine mn (Skye) so I think it works. [name_m]Weston[/name_m] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] sounds lovely and it ties into your family nicely.

I think the Leslie/Westley concern is valid but I also think it can apply to any unique enough name, a friend goes by [name_m]Kelvin[/name_m] but gets called [name_m]Kevin[/name_m] every once in awhile, I think [name_u]West[/name_u] is a lovely name that’s unique and personal to you, if your willing to I would go for it lol ! Though I second going for [name_m]Weston[/name_m] as the alternative since like @carsonskye23 said, there’s way too make it have that feminine touch

I really like the W R combo/sound together too!

How about [name_f]Westlyn[/name_f]?
