I am pregnant with our first child and we aren’t finding out the sex. You have all been awesome in helping us stick with our girls choices and now we need boys names. Our girls names are:
[name]Isolde[/name], [name]Rowena[/name], [name]Hermione[/name] and [name]Beatrice[/name]/[name]Beatrix[/name]. We want 4 children so if we have 4 girls these will be the names used.
We are really stuck for boys names. Our biggest issue is that my husband is very sensitive about boys names. He grew up with the name [name]Bjorn[/name] (which I love) and he was teased so badly growing up. He refuses to consider a boys name that could have the potential to be teased or has a difficult spelling or pronunciation. Poor guy is scarred for life!
Our very short list is:
*[name]Eric[/name]/[name]Derek[/name] - We love the old and strong feel of [name]Eric[/name] but feel that [name]Derek[/name] has the more complete look to it.
*[name]Eamon[/name] - I love love this name but my husband won’t consider it because of pronunciation issues. I wonder if they is a legit spelling that makes pronunciation easier?
*[name]Edmund[/name] - We love this name, but the nickname [name]Ed[/name] or [name]Eddy[/name] makes me cringe.
*[name]Peter[/name] - Feels very strong to us but not sure if it fits with our girls names at all.
Please please help us, we are going insane here. Our only middle name choices for boys are Halen (my maiden name) or [name]Soren[/name] (my mil’s maiden name is Sorensen) which we aren’t totally sold on. If you can also think of some girls middle names we would love that too.
Your girl names are fantastic! As for the boys names on your list, [name]Eric[/name] is strong but rather dated and [name]IMO[/name] [name]Derek[/name] even more so. [name]Eamon[/name] I think you should rule out due to your husband’s past experiences and him being concerned similar things would happen with this name (not that I think they would). [name]Edmund[/name] is one of my favourites, such a handsome name However if you really hate the inevitable nn’s … I’m sure he’d be called [name]Ed[/name] by some people at some point in his life but if you reinforce that he’s [name]Edmund[/name] not [name]Eddy[/name] when he’s little I think you’d be able to avoid the nn by in large. I love [name]Peter[/name], it’s strong but sweet and with a great history. I don’t think you should worry about it not fitting with your girls names, it might be more popular and not as quirky as the girls names but I think it would work well in a sib-set with any of them
So my favourite would be [name]Peter[/name]. [name]Peter[/name] Halen is fabulous!
I think [name]Peter[/name] works great with your girls names! hmmm I’ll try to come up with some ‘tease-proof’ names (at least the best I can) that seem to be in your style…
Thank you all,
We do like [name]Peter[/name] and I agree [name]Peter[/name] Halen sounds great!
We weren’t sure if the name matched, but we do find it handsome and strong which is important for us.
Alexa400:
I like [name]Simon[/name] a lot but my husband isn’t convinced. The rest aren’t quite us. Thanks and if you have more we would accept them!
*[name]Eric[/name]/[name]Derek[/name] -
*[name]Eamon[/name] - A little too left field, [name]Aidan[/name] very popular comes to mind but [name]Laurence[/name], [name]Dashiell[/name], [name]Lionel[/name], [name]Nicholas[/name], [name]Gordon[/name], [name]Stuart[/name], [name]Donovan[/name] or [name]Alistair[/name].
*[name]Edmund[/name] - Instead [name]Tristan[/name] or [name]Damon[/name]
*[name]Peter[/name] -A good choice, a strong manly name fully in tune with the girls
Combos I have just thrown in a few new names
[name]Peter[/name] Halen
[name]Tristan[/name] [name]Eric[/name]
[name]Damon[/name] [name]Alister[/name]
[name]Gordon[/name] [name]Thomas[/name] or [name]Thomas[/name] [name]Gordon[/name]
[name]Derek[/name] [name]Gordon[/name]
[name]Walter[/name] Halen
[name]Erik[/name] Sorensen
[name]Laurence[/name] Halen
[name]Nicholas[/name] [name]Peter[/name]
[name]Donovan[/name] [name]Peter[/name]
[name]Stuart[/name] Halen
Did this help at all?
rollo
Thanks,
[name]Sadie[/name] and [name]Bjorn[/name][/quote]
[name]Peter[/name] Halen - I do like this, we feel better that others think that it sounds good with girls names.
[name]Tristan[/name] [name]Eric[/name] - Can’t do [name]Tristan[/name] with [name]Isolde[/name] and I love [name]Isolde[/name] more.
[name]Damon[/name] [name]Alister[/name] - I could see [name]Alister[/name] as a middle name, not loving [name]Damon[/name].
[name]Gordon[/name] [name]Thomas[/name] or [name]Thomas[/name] [name]Gordon[/name] - I like [name]Gordon[/name] but my cousin is [name]Gordon[/name] [name]Thomas[/name] lol.
[name]Derek[/name] [name]Gordon[/name] - I like this combo but can’t use [name]Gordon[/name] due to cousin.
[name]Walter[/name] Halen - [name]Walter[/name] still feels a little stuffy for me, maybe by baby number 4 it will be a hot item.
[name]Erik[/name] Sorensen - I love this with [name]Peter[/name] Halen, does Sorensen sound good?
[name]Laurence[/name] Halen - I think of [name]Laurence[/name] as a last name because one of my best friends ln’s is [name]Lawrence[/name].
[name]Nicholas[/name] [name]Peter[/name] - I like [name]Nicholas[/name], but not in love with it.
[name]Donovan[/name] [name]Peter[/name] - I can’t seem to like [name]Donovan[/name].
[name]Stuart[/name] Halen - I like [name]Stuart[/name] but get stuck with the picture of Stewie in my head, lol.
Thanks for the list I love:
[name]Peter[/name] Halen, [name]Alister[/name] and [name]Eric[/name] Sorensen. Wow I am really picky, sorry but if you have more I would love to see them.
I wish I could do really old names like Godric, [name]Roderick[/name] and [name]Alarick[/name] but they seem really out there. Maybe that is why we like [name]Eric[/name] and [name]Derek[/name]. Are there names like these that don’t seem so out there?
We slept on [name]Peter[/name] Halen and [name]Eric[/name] Sorensen and we do love them. I think they will be our top two names.
Are there any other boys first names or middle names that match?
I am not in love with [name]Griffin[/name], I think because I know so many of them.
ooh I like [name]Charles[/name] [name]Christian[/name], will have to run it by [name]Bjorn[/name] and see if he likes it.
[name]Isolde[/name] - [name]Peter[/name]
[name]Rowena[/name] - [name]Eric[/name]
[name]Hermione[/name] - [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Beatrix[/name] - ???
We have been set on the girls names since we met so we pretty much stick with what we love. I think the boys names will be the same.
I do like how these look with the girls names!
I love [name]Erik[/name], but spelled [name]Erich[/name]. Some names I thought that goes well with the girl names you have and your boy name suggestions are [name]Bryant[/name], [name]Nolan[/name]/[name]Noland[/name], and [name]Preston[/name].
I like [name]Nolan[/name]. I like the [name]Nolan[/name] [name]Ryan[/name] connection.
[name]Bryant[/name] feels really close to [name]Bryan[/name]. I like [name]Preston[/name], but my husband wouldn’t go for it.
We are trying to make sure that the names are easy to pronounce and spell so [name]Erich[/name] would not work. Thanks though.
Isolde - Peter
Rowena - Eric
Hermione - Charles
Beatrix - ???
I think [name]Peter[/name] and [name]Charles[/name] work beautifully with [name]Isolde[/name], [name]Rowena[/name], [name]Hermione[/name] and [name]Beatrix[/name]! However i personally feel that [name]Eric[/name] doesn’t fit the bill! It seems much to modern (now it would even be deemed outdated)…i think there may be some better options for you out there! All of your other choices are underused classics so i would stick with that:
[name]Clive[/name]
[name]Alfred[/name] '[name]Freddie[/name]"
[name]Archibald[/name] “[name]Archie[/name]”
[name]Arthur[/name] “[name]Art[/name]”
[name]Benedict[/name] “[name]Ben[/name]” (even [name]Benjamin[/name] would be lovely)
[name]Frederick[/name] “[name]Freddie[/name]”
[name]Reginald[/name] “[name]Reggie[/name]”
[name]Stanley[/name] “[name]Stan[/name]”
[name]Winston[/name]
[name]Ivan[/name]
I love the name [name]Conrad[/name] so thank you for adding that to my list. And would consider [name]Daniel[/name], [name]Michael[/name] and [name]Thomas[/name] as middle name choices. Thanks.
[name]Clive[/name] - Still too old for me
[name]Alfred[/name] '[name]Freddie[/name]" - I love [name]Alfred[/name] with the nick name [name]Alfie[/name] but the silly song puts my husband off.
[name]Archibald[/name] “[name]Archie[/name]” - I can’t in good faith use this on my son.
[name]Arthur[/name] “[name]Art[/name]” - Not a fan.
[name]Benedict[/name] “[name]Ben[/name]” (even [name]Benjamin[/name] would be lovely) - I love [name]Benedict[/name] a lot.
[name]Frederick[/name] “[name]Freddie[/name]” - Not a fan
[name]Reginald[/name] “[name]Reggie[/name]” - I can’t get into this name
[name]Stanley[/name] “[name]Stan[/name]” - Still old manish
[name]Winston[/name] - Same as [name]Stanly[/name]
[name]Ivan[/name] - I am not a fan
I don’t have much to add, but I also love [name]Eamon[/name]. We have considered it for both of our previous pregnancies (though we had girls both times) and it is still on our list this time around, though we haven’t settled on it. My husband and I were a bit concerned about pronunciation issues, but we might still go with it. I love it’s meaning.
If it’s the sound you like, there is a Hebrew/Biblical name “[name]Amon[/name]” which has a different meaning (can’t remember right now) but the same pronunciation. “[name]Amon[/name]” might be a bit more phonetic and might not pose the same pronunciation problems your husband is worried about. It still might get mispronounced (i.e. people might initially say it with a short ‘a’ sound rather than a long ‘a’ sound), but I don’t think the potential for teasing is nearly as high as it is for “[name]Eamon[/name]” when mispronounced.
Not sure if that helps at all or if you’ve already moved on to other names you like better.
