Boys names Kit can be short for

Hi friends,

I love the name Kit for a boy, but do not love Christopher as a full name. I have also seen Atticus used with nickname Kit, which I like better but still don’t love. So I have 2 questions for you all!

  1. What are some other names you can think of that Kit could be a nickname of?
  2. What are your thoughts on Kit on its own? I typically like longer names that have nicknames which is why I am hesitant but I really do love Kit. Is it too short/nicknamey to function on its own?

Thanks!

I think [name_u]Kit[/name_u] is awesome as a standalone name. As a nickname, perhaps [name_m]Constantin[/name_m]? [name_m]Kermit[/name_m]? These are just the first two that come to mind. [name_u]Or[/name_u] a combination of first and middle eg. [name_m]Kasper[/name_m] [name_m]Ignatius[/name_m].

I kind of feel like because Kit is the name for a baby fox, it could work as a cutesy nickname regardless of the first name. You know, like Bear, Buddy, Chip, Sonny, etc. If you used a C or K name that would just make it even better / more intuitive, e.g Casper, Caspian, Charles nn Kit.

I do also think Kit could work on its own, especially with a longer middle or last name. It’s sweet, quirky and yet has some strength behind it too. At least in my opinion!

I also saw someone suggest Beckett nn Kit a while back?

Kitrick
[name_u]Keaton[/name_u]
[name_u]Beckett[/name_u]

I like it as a standalone, would look good with a long middle name though like [name_u]Kit[/name_u] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] or [name_u]Kit[/name_u] [name_u]Greyson[/name_u]

  1. I’ve heard people use [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] with the nickname [name_u]Kit[/name_u]. You could also do [name_m]Kingston[/name_m].
  2. I love [name_u]Kit[/name_u] on its own! I prefer it as a stand alone name. I love it for either gender.

[name_u]Dakota[/name_u] (although I prefer [name_u]Dakota[/name_u] for a girl)
Christoffe/Kristof
[name_u]Christian[/name_u]
[name_m]Clement[/name_m]
[name_m]Cedric[/name_m]?
Maybe KT initials, like [name_m]Kellan[/name_m] [name_u]Timothy[/name_u]?

I think [name_u]Kit[/name_u] could work as a full name, but I prefer to have a longer name, especially since it can seem a bit feminine (for me, particularly because of the American Girl character and another movie character. That might not be a problem for many people). But I looove [name_u]Kit[/name_u] as a nickname for a boy or a girl either way

I also think of [name_u]Kit[/name_u] on its own as feeling slightly feminine because of the American girl doll. But I just remembered her last name was Kittredge, which I actually think could be a cute boys name itself!
Kittridge/Kittredge nickname [name_u]Kit[/name_u]?

I completely feel this because my general taste is for longer, although I do also like Christopher. However I really do think Kit can be used standalone, especially with a longer middle like @ajenni10 suggested. It’s a great name!!

I think [name_u]Kit[/name_u] works great on it’s own!

Curtis/Kurtis nn [name_u]Kit[/name_u] is one I haven’t seen mentioned

Seconding Beckett–I know a little [name_u]Beckett[/name_u] “Kit,” and I’ve always loved his name! I also love [name_u]Kit[/name_u] as a standalone, though–if you don’t find a longer name you love at least as much as just-Kit, then I definitely vote use it on its own!

We have a [name_u]Beckett[/name_u]. Before he was born we anticipated using the nickname [name_u]Kit[/name_u], but he’s grown into more of a [name_u]Beck[/name_u]. Generally speaking, I feel much the same way about the traditional long-forms of [name_u]Kit[/name_u], also being partial to long names with nickname potential.

But I think [name_u]Kit[/name_u] very much works as a standalone though. Especially when paired with a multi-syllable middle like [name_u]Kit[/name_u] [name_m]Alistair[/name_m], or [name_u]Kit[/name_u] [name_u]Montgomery[/name_u].

gahhhhh i have the same struggle lol.

The only boy I knew in real life with this name was [name_m]Kipton[/name_m] nn Kit/Kip. His mom interchanged them,

I also know a [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] who goes by Kitt/Kitty

Callistus/Callixtus/Kallistos/Calixto
Nikita/Mikita/Niketas
Praxiteles

I once saw the name [name_m]Kitto[/name_m]. That could work!
