I have never started a thread before but I was wondering if anybody has any suggestions for my boys list. I love so many girls’ names but I can never find many boys’ names I love as much. I love many types of names from lots of countries but I particularly love Irish and Welsh names because this is where my family are from. Generally, I prefer uncommon/unusual names though I also love some classic/more common names.
My current list:
Ailbe
[name_m]Albin[/name_m]
[name_m]Amos[/name_m]
[name_m]Aneurin[/name_m]
[name_u]Asa[/name_u] (particularly in love with [name_u]Asa[/name_u] [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m])
[name_m]Bruno[/name_m]
Ceiro
Charon
[name_m]Enoch[/name_m]
[name_u]Evan[/name_u]
[name_m]Evander[/name_m]
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_m]Jenson[/name_m]
[name_m]Joseph[/name_m]
[name_m]Joshua[/name_m]
[name_m]Lochlan[/name_m]/[name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]
[name_m]Lucas[/name_m]
[name_m]Remus[/name_m]
[name_u]Remy[/name_u]
[name_m]Ruairi[/name_m]
[name_m]Ruben[/name_m]/[name_m]Reuben[/name_m]
Ok, now that I’ve written them all out it does look kind of long! But my girls’ list is at least twice as long
My friends think my obsession with names is weird so I haven’t had any opinions on these names so any opinions are welcome
Also just wanted to add, for anybody who managed to read all of this (VERY long!) post, I’m 18 and not planning on having children for at least another 8 years so I am not currently naming an actual baby
I have [name_u]Ailbhe[/name_u] ([name_m]AL[/name_m]-va) on my girls list but Ailbe (ALL-bay) on my boys’ list. I’ve read conflicting pronunciations and I think they were originally both boys’ names (and are forms of the same name) but I like [name_u]Ailbhe[/name_u] for a girl (which I kind of feel guilty about because normally I hate boys’ names on girls!)
Thank you for all your suggestions. I like [name_m]Cillian[/name_m], [name_m]Daire[/name_m], [name_m]Fergus[/name_m] (I love the nn [name_u]Gus[/name_u] and hadn’t thought of [name_m]Fergus[/name_m] as an option for it until now!) and [name_m]Oisin[/name_m] from the Irish names. Where did you find them? Some of them I haven’t heard of before ([name_m]Abban[/name_m], Caolan, Cathair, [name_m]Daithi[/name_m]). From the Welsh ones [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_u]Emlyn[/name_u]! [name_u]Taliesin[/name_u] and [name_m]Ianto[/name_m] are really interesting and I loved the character [name_m]Ianto[/name_m] on Torchwood
From your list I like these best:
Ceiro -is this [name_u]Cairo[/name_u] (country) spelled differently? I love [name_u]Cairo[/name_u] if it is
[name_u]Evan[/name_u]
[name_m]Evander[/name_m]
[name_m]Joseph[/name_m]
[name_m]Lochlan[/name_m]/[name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]
[name_m]Lucas[/name_m]
[name_m]Ruben[/name_m]/[name_m]Reuben[/name_m]
Based on these, which are much like my own taste, maybe you will like:
Ailbe is not pronounced ALL-bay. I’m guessing you got that pronunciation from babynamesofireland. It’s not a very reliable site with pronunciations. The anglicized feminine form of [name_u]Ailbhe[/name_u] is [name_f]Elva[/name_f]. The anglicized masculine form of [name_u]Ailbhe[/name_u] is [name_m]Alby[/name_m].
Ashleyjuliette - Ooh [name_m]Tobin[/name_m] and [name_m]Alaric[/name_m] I love! Thank you. I found Ceiro (sort of pronounced [name_u]KAY[/name_u]-ro) on a couple of Welsh names sites but I’m not sure how legit it is, but I don’t care because I like it
ikfly - i just looked on behindthename and it says that [name_u]Ailbhe[/name_u] was the name of a female warrior so now I feel better about wanting it to be a girls’ name, I’d only come across the male [name_m]Saint[/name_m] [name_u]Ailbhe[/name_u]/Ailbe before. I don’t think it was babynamesofireland but I can’t find the one I used now but I definitely found the pronunciation ALL-bay in a few places and it’s how my Irish speaking Great Aunt said it so it’s probably a regional thing.
