Bram vs Rory

So these two names have been my top 2 for a very long time for a boy. My SO has said he likes both of them (they may not be his top 2, but he can still see using them).

So I’m just curious what you think of each of these?

And if I’m ever so lucky as to have a son, which one should I use?

Personally, I prefer [name]Bram[/name]. After watching the [name]Gilmore[/name] Girls for so long, [name]Rory[/name] is a girl’s name to me through and through. Not even close to being unisex. I can’t imagine it on a boy.

[name]Bram[/name] hands down. I think [name]Rory[/name] is more popular as a nn for a larger variety of names and [name]Bram[/name] is gaining on a much more underground name lover movement. I also prefer the softer harmonic feel of [name]Bram[/name] over the punchy two syllables of [name]Rory[/name].

[name]Bram[/name] seems new and cool and fresh. [name]Rory[/name] feels a bit dated. The Rorys I know are in their 20s now.

I agree with the previous posters - [name]Bram[/name] is my choice too. Not sure what it is, but there is something attractive about it that I really like.

[name]Both[/name] are nice, but since [name]Rory[/name] is one of my favorites (for a boy) I’d vote for that one.

I like [name]Bram[/name], but [name]Rory[/name] feels too feminine to me! I think even if it didn’t, though, [name]Bram[/name] definitely has a better “mouth feel” than [name]Rory[/name], [name]IMO[/name].

[name]Bram[/name]! I love it. [name]Rory[/name] is a nice enough name, but [name]Bram[/name] is a bit more distinctive.

I like [name]Bram[/name]! [name]Rory[/name] is too juvenile sounding for me.

Definitely [name]Rory[/name]. It’s one of my favorites and I just find it to be so handsome sounding. I’ve never been a big fan of [name]Bram[/name] (though I don’t mind it as a nickname for [name]Abram[/name]). Because of the whole Dracula thing, to me it always sounds like something a 14 year old goth girl would name her cat.

My son’s name is [name]Bram[/name] [name]Alexander[/name]. I was hesitant with the name choice at first, but it totally fits him. Be prepared for some funny looks though because of the whole Dracula thing.

I’m going to put in another vote for [name]Bram[/name]. It’s a new love of mine, and I could see using it myself. [name]Rory[/name] is cute, but not nearly as stunning as [name]Bram[/name]

I love [name]Rory[/name] for a boy and I seriously don’t see or hear anything feminine in the name! [name]How[/name] people consider the ‘[name]Roar[/name]’ sound to be feminine I don’t know or is it just because it ends in the ‘ee’ sound?!

I know [name]America[/name] has a weird thing with thinking [name]Rory[/name] is feminine, but even though I live here I find it to just be a handsome Irish male name (My American side is of Irish heritage, as is my SO). I do worry that [name]Bram[/name] is about to take off though…thoughts on that? A woman I know even has [name]Abraham[/name] nn [name]Bram[/name] in her top two. Made my stomach lurch a little!

I feel like [name]Bram[/name] is a little harsh sounding. I’ve never heard it for a full-name either. I think [name]Abram[/name] is a little softer and I like the sounds of it more than [name]Bram[/name] by itself. [name]Rory[/name] seems girly to me since I watched [name]Gilmore[/name] Girls as well. If I had to choose I would choose [name]Bram[/name] because though I think it’s a little harsh sounding by itself [name]Bram[/name] is clearly a boy name and seems to have a new-age vibe going for it.

Good [name]Luck[/name]!

I like [name]Bram[/name].I’ve always felt that it’s difficult to say [name]Rory[/name]

I like [name]Bram[/name]! [name]Rory[/name] is much more popular so I find [name]Bram[/name] refreshing

I love the idea of [name]Bram[/name] so much. I love the way it looks, and the way it sounds in my head. Too bad that it sounds absolutely hideous when I say it, for some reason. Then there’s the issue of pronunciation. It looks like it rhymes with ram but I always want to say [name]Brahm[/name] - which sounds like I’m a Midwesterner with an affected English accent. Of course, I have completely separate pn issues with [name]Rory[/name]… and [name]Briar[/name], and [name]Aurora[/name], and [name]Prairie[/name]. I can say them, but they are difficult enough to wrap my tongue around that I don’t think I’d be able to say them 100 times a day.

I say [name]Bram[/name] - just make sure you like the “ram” sounding pn if you’re in the US!

I would choose [name]Abram[/name] or [name]Abraham[/name], nn [name]Bram[/name].

Congrats moving on to become an RN! I’ve been one for years, and I love it! I like [name]Rory[/name], it’s adorable but can age well. [name]Bram[/name] just sounds made up to me.
