Break It To Me Gently...

OK Berries,
It’s like this: Our former #1 girl’s name was [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Bertrice[/name_f], but for some reason, it just isn’t feeling like the ‘right’ name anymore. (Please feel free to roll your eyes.) I don’t know how to explain it, but that just isn’t the name for this little person. (And YES, I KNOW we don’t know the sex yet, but still…) Now, family names are REALLY important to me and I keep coming back to our current front-runner, [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]. My one hang-up is our son’s name, [name_m]Harold[/name_m] [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m], nn [name_m]Hal[/name_m]. I promise, I ALREADY know it is way too matchy-matchy for 99.9% of you reading this post, BUT, is it like the WORST of the WORST, or just sort of annoying? (See examples below)

WORST of the WORST: [name_u]Jerry[/name_u] and [name_f]Carrie[/name_f], or [name_m]Hal[/name_m] and [name_u]Val[/name_u], or [name_f]Willa[/name_f] and [name_m]William[/name_m], [name_m]George[/name_m] and [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], etc.

Sort of Annoying: [name_m]John[/name_m] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] and [name_f]Molly[/name_f], [name_u]Kim[/name_u] and [name_f]Kourtney[/name_f], etc.

Thanks for helping! Can’t wait for this madness to be over…

If you love [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], go for it. (I don’t get it, but I’m sure your little girl will be cute enough to pull it off

I like [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], they aren’t matchy imo they just start with the same first letter. If you love [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] then go for it. And for the record I think that [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] is a very sweet combo. If you are truly worried about them being too “matchy” you could always name her [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f].

[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] is a beautiful name, but [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] and [name_m]Harold[/name_m] would annoy me a lot. I’m the kind of person who can’t stand even slightly similar names for siblings though.

I don’t think its that bad. They wouldn’t have the same short form or nicknames.

I think either [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] or [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] are lovely choices.

You should go with what feels right.

I don’t think the matchiness is bad at all with [name_m]Harold[/name_m]. What I don’t love as much is how [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] blends right into [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]. Maybe it’s me, but it’s a lot of Ls. Maybe [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Margot[/name_f] or [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]?

While [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] and [name_m]Hal[/name_m] do look similar, I don’t find them overly matchy because the “a” sounds are so different. I love [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], so if you feel it’s the right name, I think you should go for it.

Thanks so much previous posters!

[name_m]Just[/name_m] to clear up any confusion, “[name_f]Lillian[/name_f]” I love and adore, but I wouldn’t use as a first name because of it’s popularity, however, it honors a very beloved family member who passed away that I was super close to.

Also, I hear you on the L sound at the end of [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]/beginning of [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], but in order to honor both sides, [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] is the one that sounds best from Hubby’s family tree. (I don’t think it is ideal, but it doesn’t bother me either.) [name_f]Hope[/name_f] that helps!

Idon’t think they are that matchy. I think [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] is fine:)

I dont think they are overly matchy, i think [name_m]Harold[/name_m] and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] sound fine together. I like [name_f]Margot[/name_f] too though!

Shame that [name_f]Margot[/name_f] is off the list it is my name and it is a very wearable and strong name.

[name_f]Hazel[/name_f] and [name_m]Harold[/name_m] aren’t that bad in my opinion. Except for the first two letters, they’re nothing alike. And although I’m not a fan of [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] is actually really cute.

[name_m]Harold[/name_m]/[name_m]Hal[/name_m] and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] are annoyingly matchy to me.

Not only that, but [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] is really floral/nature sounding. Too much for me.

I like [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] - my daughter was so close to being one! - and I really don’t think [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] & [name_m]Hal[/name_m] are a problem together. [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] & [name_m]Harold[/name_m] are lovely, strong names. (& for the record, we ended up naming our daughter [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]!! I have never felt so qualified to comment on a post

Your ‘sort of annoyings’ drive me crazzzzzy!!! It would be too much for me sorry. LOVING [name_f]Margot[/name_f] though!!

[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], but not feeling it with [name_m]Hal[/name_m]. That said, your children are independent people who will for most of their lives not be known in relation to their sibling, sooo, who really, really cares?

A shame about [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], what an absolutely stunning name. Might steal it.

Hahahahaha @Novmama10! That is so awesome! Yes, I would say you are “overly” qualified to answer. [name_f]Glad[/name_f] you responded!

[name_m]Just[/name_m] to clarify- I still [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] the name [name_f]Margot[/name_f], it just doesn’t feel right and I’m not sure why…

I really like [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], and I think it’s fab with [name_m]Harold[/name_m] “[name_m]Hal[/name_m]”! [name_m]Hal[/name_m] and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] are a bit similar, but fine for me. I really like the pairing, actually. I actually find [name_m]John[/name_m] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] much more matchy than [name_m]Hal[/name_m] and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], mainly because they’re both forms of the same name.

I don’t think [name_m]Harold[/name_m] and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] are too matchy, but [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] isn’t a great combo. [name_f]One[/name_f] of the golden rules of baby naming is never start the middle name with the last letter of the first name. The names blend together.
