Breccan, Colton, Dax, and ________?

I have three sons, [name]Breccan[/name] nn Brec, [name]Colton[/name] nn [name]Colt[/name], and [name]Dax[/name]. I’m pregnant with my fourth (we don’t know if it’s a boy or girl) and my husband and I are struggling to agree on a name. We both like the name [name]Shepherd[/name], but there is an actor named [name]Dax[/name] [name]Shepherd[/name] and I’m worried that I’m going to get the “oh… you must be one of those crazy fans” looks. What do you think? Any other boys names suggestions? I like names that have a sort of “hard” sound - I also really like Irish names for boys (probably b/c most have that sound).

For girls we kind of like [name]Aveline[/name], but we’d love to get some other suggestions!
For both boys and girls names, we’d like to stay away from “too popular” names.
Thanks so much!

I adore the name [name]Shepherd[/name] (and the nn [name]Shep[/name] is very cool) so if you really love it, I wouldn’t worry about the connection the the actor. But here are a few others you may like.

[name]August[/name] or [name]Angus[/name] (nn [name]Gus[/name])
[name]Cormac[/name] (nn [name]Mac[/name])
[name]Callahan[/name] (nn [name]Cal[/name])
[name]Finnegan[/name] (nn [name]Finn[/name])
[name]Quinlan[/name] (nn [name]Quinn[/name])
[name]Sullivan[/name] (nn [name]Sully[/name] or [name]Van[/name])
[name]Teague[/name] (I think the “[name]Tea[/name]” is pronounced “[name]Ty[/name]”, so nn could be [name]Ty[/name])
[name]Zander[/name] (nn [name]Zan[/name])

[name]Eleanor[/name] (going to be popular, but a classic, and has lots of nn options)
[name]Lucinda[/name] (nn [name]Lucy[/name])
[name]Matilda[/name] (nn [name]Tilda[/name] or [name]Tilly[/name])

My favorite combos:
Brec, [name]Colt[/name], [name]Dax[/name], [name]Gus[/name]
Brec, [name]Colt[/name], [name]Dax[/name], [name]Finn[/name]
Brec, [name]Colt[/name], [name]Dax[/name], [name]Zan[/name]
Brec, [name]Colt[/name], [name]Dax[/name], [name]Tilly[/name]
Brec, [name]Colt[/name], [name]Dax[/name], [name]Nora[/name]
Brec, [name]Colt[/name], [name]Dax[/name], [name]Lucy[/name]

[name]Reed[/name], [name]Zane[/name], [name]Quincy[/name] nn [name]Quinn[/name], [name]Finnian[/name] nn [name]Finn[/name], and [name]Wyatt[/name] get my vote for the boys. I love [name]Zane[/name] the most! Maybe I love [name]Wyatt[/name] the most.
Girls: [name]Maeve[/name], [name]Lucy[/name], [name]Lily[/name], [name]Willow[/name], [name]Ivy[/name], [name]Ruby[/name], [name]Olive[/name], and [name]Georgia[/name]. [name]Maeve[/name] is my favorite!

If I really loved [name]Shepherd[/name], I wouldn’t let [name]Dax[/name] [name]Shepherd[/name] stop me from using it. As long as you won’t be bothered by people’s comments (and you know they [name]WILL[/name] comment on the whole, “Wow! Like [name]Dax[/name] [name]Shepherd[/name]!” issue), go for it. If, however, it will annoy or upset you, perhaps you may be happier using it as a middle name.

I really love [name]Aveline[/name], and think it’s a great Irish choice!

I think [name]Zane[/name] sounds great with your other boys’ names…

Best wishes!
