Briar for a boy?

What are your thoughts on the name [name]Briar[/name] for a boy?

I love it! When I hear “[name]Briar[/name]” I think of the character in the “Circle of [name]Magic[/name]” children’s series by [name]Tamora[/name] [name]Pierce[/name]–a very tough, cool boy. The name also comes with the nickname “[name]Bri[/name]” which I love.

Awesome! I know it’s the name of a Disney princess, but that name sounds so much more masculine to me. [name]Bri[/name] is such a cute nickname.

I think of [name]Briar[/name] [name]Rose[/name] aka “Sleeping Beauty” first. But I guess it could work for a boy.

It could work for a boy, but I vastly prefer it on a girl and would assume any [name]Briar[/name] I heard about was female unless told otherwise.

I always thought it was a boy name!

There’s no reason it couldn’t work for a boy. I don’t associate it with either gender. My only objection is that briars are extremely unpleasant, and of all the nature names out there I don’t understand why [name]Briar[/name] appeals.

[name]Even[/name] though I know some people think it is a girl name, it has always felt like a boy name to me. I used to dream of having three sons named [name]Levi[/name], [name]Briar[/name], and [name]Hollis[/name].

I like it a lot and think it’s all boy. I also think of Circle of [name]Magic[/name].

I think it’s great. It isn’t very common and isn’t really associated with a gender for that reason, except by a relative few who already know of characters or real life people called [name]Briar[/name].

Actually, Sleeping Beauty’s name has pretty much ALWAYS been [name]Brier[/name] [name]Rose[/name]. Not a Disney invention, which is awesome.

Anywho, I’ve always thought it was odd on a girl anyway, ha. I like it for either.

I love [name]Briar[/name] for either I prefer [name]Brier[/name] on girl. The only [name]Briar[/name] I know is a boy! I love it.

“[name]Brier[/name]” is what you call a curling tournament to me. [name]Briar[/name] is a unisex nature name and I love it for girl or boy.

The name itself actually sounds very masculine to me. I like it for both genders. The only thing is the Sleeping Beauty association. It might offer some potential teasing. But I think [name]Briar[/name] sounds very handsome.

I find the connotation of having to do with thorns off putting to say the least. I don’t like this name much for either gender. [name]One[/name] of the supreme court justice’s name is briar spelled Breyer. I would go with that spelling for a boy. I would prefer [name]Brian[/name] or Brye on its own. I know a Bry in real life.

Good [name]Luck[/name]!

Ooh! I quite like it. I can see it going either way gender-wise, but it’s a very solid name, strong connotation. A boy could wear it handsomely, I think.

I think it works for both boys and girls but I did automatically think girl when I saw the name. I think that association is purely because of [name]Briar[/name] [name]Rose[/name].

I grew up with a guy named [name]Briar[/name], so it’s always been a boys name for me.

I love [name]Briar[/name] for a boy, it’s been on my list since reading ‘Circle of [name]Magic[/name]’ as a kid and it’s still there.

Ditto this. I love [name]Tamora[/name] [name]Pierce[/name]'s character names! Always so apt.

It’s like [name]Brian[/name] with an R. Totally usable.
