Thought on using [name_u]Briar[/name_u] for a boy? I know on nameberry it seems to be on everyone’s girl name lists, but everywhere else I look it appears to be 50/50 and a neutral name. I’ve only met one [name_u]Briar[/name_u] and he was a boy, and have met another [name_m]Bryer[/name_m] also a boy. I’ve been seeing it being used more and more for girls especially for middle names. I know the association to sleeping beauty, however, I don’t think I’d ever name my daughter that, it literally means a thorny bush. I like cutesy/pretty girly names for my girls. To me it screams southern male. Anyways, what are your thoughts? I love [name_u]Briar[/name_u] [name_m]William[/name_m].
Note: I don’t dislike it on girls it’s cool and different, but I like girly names so I wouldn’t save it to use on a girl
I love it so much. For a boy or a girl - it’s not a thorny name! It is very pretty! Although I respect your opinion.
When I miscarried, I later named the baby - I never knew the gender, but his/her name would have been [name_u]Briar[/name_u], regardless of gender. [name_u]Briar[/name_u] [name_u]Roscoe[/name_u] for a boy or [name_u]Briar[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]/Briar [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] for a girl.
It’s okay on a boy. It makes me think of [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]’s fake name [name_u]Briar[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] so the name feels 100% feminine to me because it makes me think of a princess. But I can see the -r ending working on a boy, I just can’t picture it.
I think it’s a lovely name, I just prefer cutesy names for girls ([name_f]Leila[/name_f], [name_f]Jolie[/name_f], [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], etc.). And I’m so sorry to hear that, those are such lovely names! I do think [name_u]Briar[/name_u] [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] or [name_u]Briar[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] (like the movie) are darling. If I somehow end up with 4+ girls than maybe I’d use.
I just think [name_u]Briar[/name_u] and [name_m]Brian[/name_m] are almost the same name and I couldn’t picture a little girl named [name_m]Brian[/name_m]. I respect your opinion.
I LOVE [name_u]Briar[/name_u] for a boy. It feels so handsome and princely. I’m also from the south, I think it would do just fine, especially paired with [name_m]William[/name_m].
Even though it’s tied to [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], to me [name_u]Briar[/name_u] has always sounded masculine. It resonates much better with me as a male.
i love it on a boy ! [name_u]Briar[/name_u] [name_m]William[/name_m] is perfect the similarity to [name_m]Brian[/name_m] has made it always lean masculine for me too
Briar has always come off masculine to me because of a character named [name_u]Briar[/name_u] [name_m]Moss[/name_m] from a book series I read as a teen. He had plant magic and named himself [name_u]Briar[/name_u] [name_m]Moss[/name_m] but ever since that I haven’t associated [name_u]Briar[/name_u] with Sleeping Beauty
