So our favorite name is [name_f]Briar[/name_f] for a girl. I heard it is racist in the south for white trash hillbillies. I wasnt worried because we live in the PNW. Now there is a chance we might move to [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_f]Carolina[/name_f] or even Kentucky. Anyone from that area? Is it really that big of a deal? Thanks
I live in the south (not those states, but further south) and have never once heard that term used, ever. My room mate is from Kentucky and lived there until he was 18 and he has never heard of it either.
I’m not from down south but I have never heard that before!
I’m in the south and have never heard that before (further south than NC and KY though)!
I’ve never heard anything of the sort!
Whoever told you that is absolutely ridiculous. I’ve lived in NC my entire life and I’ve never heard that. It’s not a thing. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] that helps!
I’m from South [name_f]Carolina[/name_f], and I have never heard of that. I think [name_f]Briar[/name_f] is a cute name!
I’m from the south, though not that area, and have never heard the term used.
Thanks everyone that helps alot! Someone said it was like the N word for white people so I had to check. On [name_u]Urban[/name_u] Dictionary its bad but if no one uses/has heard of it im not gonna worry THANKS!!!
We live in the south and I have never heard that before.
I’m from [name_f]Virginia[/name_f], and I live in [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_f]Carolina[/name_f], and I’ve never heard [name_f]Briar[/name_f] used in a derogatory way. The only thing I can think of are the Br’er Rabbit stories Br'er Rabbit - Wikipedia. The pronunciation is similar, especially with an accent, but I don’t think it’s something to worry about. First thing I think about is [name_f]Briar[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] from Sleeping Beauty.
I live in the [name_u]North[/name_u] and have never heard that before ever.
There are of course everyday words and names used against people, some catch on a little but none ever really mean something bad unless you use it in that way. I wouldn’t worry about it at all. [name_f]Briar[/name_f] is a gorgeous name.
I’m from NC, never heard of it. A briar is a briar here, like brambles or rose thorns.
Spent a while living in the Midwest AND the [name_f]East[/name_f] and I’ve never heard the term.
