I heard this on a little boy the other day at work and thought it was rather cute. I’ve never really warmed up to it on a girl, but I think it works just as well on a boy…Pushing sleeping beauty associations aside.
Thoughts?

I prefer it on a girl, but I think it is one that works well on a boy also
It works on both. Underused nature names tend to be unisex in my opinion. I do like it on both, but I would never use it on a boy because I tend to like very masculine names on boys.
I think it’s fine on a boy. It reminds me of Br’er Rabbit
If [name]Greer[/name] is unisex, why not [name]Briar[/name]? It’s fine for a boy especially if take the point he most likely won’t know any girls with this name.
It reminds me of [name]Brian[/name] which to me is dated so I am not a big fan on boy or girl… Plus for me it is hard to get over the sleeping beauty connestion…
I was reading abook the other day and there was a female character called [name]Briar[/name]. And it struck me how harsh this would be on a little girl or women. [name]Briar[/name]-[name]Rose[/name] or [name]Briar[/name]-anything has the second name to soften it a bit. So I think as a stand alone I might prefer [name]Briar[/name] on a boy. (Not as a double name though).
I actually think it sounds more masculine and I think the reason most find it feminine is due to Sleeping Beauty ([name]Briar[/name] [name]Rose[/name]), it’s totally unisex, but I always found it a bit harsh on a girl. [name]Even[/name] the fairies called her [name]Rose[/name]…
My son is [name]Bryar[/name] =) We have received so many compliments on his name. We have met 2 other Briars/[name]Bryar[/name]'s and they were both boys. We were unaware of the Sleeping Beauty connection…we actually heard it on a movie…a character [name]Liam[/name] Neeson played…[name]Briar[/name] Gates.
I don’t see this as a girl’s name at all. I really like it.
I love it! I would definitely see it on a boy before a girl.
I prefer it on a girl, but I think it would work pretty well for a guy. Its definitely a cool name.
I’ve loved [name]Briar[/name] for a boy since reading [name]Tamora[/name] [name]Pierce[/name]'s ‘Circle of [name]Magic[/name]’ seris, where one of the main charater was a boy named [name]Briar[/name]. Really cool character, really cool name, but not one I can see on a girl.
I adore this book series!! My older brother introduced me to it when I was in middle school and I completely forgot about [name]Briar[/name] in it. I knew I’ve always liked that name, I just couldn’t figure out why haha. I definitely see it on a boy and much to harsh for a little girl.
