Brierly

I came across this name reading an article that was linked on facebook.
From her picture she looks to be in her late 20s.
It seems to be a trendy name that would be chosen today since it ends in ly. It reminds me of names like [name]Blakesley[/name], [name]Brinley[/name] and [name]Briley[/name]. What do you think? Trendy names are not usually my thing, but I like Brierly because of the nature connection to [name]Briar[/name].

I like it. It’s cute.

I like just [name]Briar[/name] so much more. I think [name]Briar[/name] is darling for a little girl, but Brierly–I think it’d get mispronounced often (BREER-lee, BRYR-lee), and the trendy -ly ending always confused me. It somehow seems that by taking a noun and adding the adverbal -ly ending you can somehow create a name, and that boggles me. It did for [name]Blakely[/name] (which, technically isn’t a noun, but it’s already a name), [name]Amberly[/name], etc., and it does for Brierly. I like it more than [name]Blakely[/name] and [name]Amberly[/name], mainly because I love [name]Briar[/name], but I really don’t see the appeal in Brierly, sorry. With the “E” in the middle, it also looks like briar + ly misspelled…

I think it sounds lovely, but doesn’t improve [name]Briar[/name]. All it does is trendify it, if that makes sense.

However, I do love the sound.

I like it. I think it is really pretty and not one of the names that seems awkward once you add the -ly ending. It also seems like an ly name that would still be suitable for an adult.

Yes, I totally agree. [name]Briar[/name] is fine on it’s own. Brierley isn’t a name I would ever use, I just thought it sounded pretty. Prettier than the other trendy names I mentioned. [name]Briar[/name] would be something I might chose in the mn spot though.

No, it’s awful. I hate that people randomly add -ley/-ly/-lee/-lie onto everything these days, I think it looks juvenile.

[name]Briar[/name] on it’s own is great, don’t ruin it.

I love [name]Briar[/name]. I could even love [name]Brier[/name]. And I don’t mind [name]Lee[/name] as a standalone first name - ironically, [name]Lee[/name] is so simple I totally disassociate it from the trend for multisyllabic -leigh and -ley ending names.

But I don’t really like Brierley. I prefer [name]Briar[/name] and [name]Amber[/name] to Brierley and [name]Amberly[/name]. I think the -er ending is nice when its not an occupational name.

^ What the above says.

Brierley is a surname within my family - I always loved it as a first name but use it as part of my business name instead.

Brearley is a fancy girls’ school in NYC, and Brierley-- spelled like that-- is a reasonably common surname. Somebody either wanted everyone to think she went there, and named her daughter Brierly (misspelling it terribly), or had the surname in their family tree.

I simply cannot, at all, understand why [name]Briar[/name] is appealing for a human, let alone a girl.

I like Brierly. Reminds me of a word, like merrily. Sometimes I wonder if simply [name]Briar[/name] would get mistaken for [name]Blair[/name] by people who don’t take time to notice the difference, but Briarly makes that impossible. That said, I think Brierly is less like [name]Briar[/name] than I would like it to be. What about [name]Briar[/name] [name]Leigh[/name]?

I like it if it’s said “briar-lee”, if it’s “breer-lee” then I’m not a fan.
