So I was looking through the oldest of the old in the [name_u]Baby[/name_u] Name Games Forum posts (i.e., the 2009 and 2010 posts) and came across a lovely gem called Name Advisor by @cuddles4444 (link here).
Here were the instructions:
[i]Pretend that you own a name advisory company that suggests baby names to couples who are expecting. Give a description of a couple who are looking for advice on what to name their unborn child. Include what kind of things they like ([name_u]Unique[/name_u], Trendy, Traditonal) and include a middle name if you want. Okay so I’ll start.
Lets Start!!
A couple walks in, the man is dressed like a punk rocker and the woman is dressed kind of goth with lots of piercings. They tell you that they want to name their unborn son something that has never been used before, and they want the middle name to be after a famous rock singer. What is you suggestion?
So the next person give a suggestion to mine and then write a description of the next couple for someone else to answer![/i]
I’m interesting in reviving this game (though not in the old thread as that is discouraged on NB as I’ve heard), so if anyone is willing, let’s play!
Here’s the first one…
A young couple walks into your office. The woman introduces herself as [name_f]Susan[/name_f] [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f], and her husband introduces himself as [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]. They tell you that they are adopting a baby soon (don’t know the sex), and would like a first name to honor their parents, [name_m]Steve[/name_m], [name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_m]Levi[/name_m], and [name_f]Tirza[/name_f]. The middle should be a popular name in Vietnam, the country that the baby is from. Please suggest one option for a boy and one for a girl.
[name_u]Michael[/name_u] [name_m]Allen[/name_m] and Xavia [name_f]Melody[/name_f] are having a son. They already have a 2 yr old daughter named [name_f]Ashlynn[/name_f] Xavia. They want a very traditional first name that could have several nicknames. The middle name has to contain an X.
Two women, one a tall brunette and the other a plump blonde, walk in. They introduce themselves as [name_f]Eila[/name_f] and [name_f]Claire[/name_f] and tell you that they have three children: [name_f]Caia[/name_f] [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] [name_f]Noor[/name_f], [name_m]Levi[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Jack[/name_m], and [name_f]Betta[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Willa[/name_f]. They are now expecting a fourth and would like two options for a girl and two for a boy. The names should fit with those of the other children, and there must be no repeating initials among the children (So [name_f]Claire[/name_f] and [name_f]Caia[/name_f], mother and daughter, is fine, but [name_f]Caia[/name_f] and [name_f]Cora[/name_f], both children, is not).
[name_u]Emerson[/name_u] and [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] are expecting their first children, twin boys! They can’t decide on names. Dad loves surnames as first names and wants to have a literary connection just like his name. Mom vibrant colorful names and all nature names. They both dislike matchy or rhyming names for twins. The agree that the first names must end with the same letter, there must be two middle names and one name must honor a grandparents. ([name_m]Walter[/name_m], [name_m]Ian[/name_m], [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] or [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] )
Emerson & Ruby
Wilde Eliezar Umber & Faulkner Ian Fern
Faustina and Linde have seven children (four boys, three girls)! One of their names honor their German heritage, another must end in a vowel, but none of them can include the letters “o,g, or h”.
A couple in their early thirties walk into your office. The woman has auburn hair, the man deep black; they introduce themselves as [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] (‘call me [name_u]Penny[/name_u]’) and [name_m]Kier[/name_m]. They’re parents to a five year old son, [name_m]Hamish[/name_m] [name_m]Pilot[/name_m], and are now expecting a daughter. Both of them love the nickname ‘[name_f]Millie[/name_f]’, but want their daughter to have a similarly distinct name like [name_m]Hamish[/name_m]'s; that can have [name_f]Millie[/name_f] as a nickname. Her middle needs to be an unusual word choice (e.g. [name_f]Breeze[/name_f], [name_f]Amity[/name_f] etc).
A young and lively come into your office. The pair introduce themselves as [name_f]Julia[/name_f] and [name_u]Kit[/name_u] and exclaim they’re having their expecting twins, a boy and a girl. [name_f]Julia[/name_f] is a music journalist and was once in a girl punk band, which has harboured a love for punk music and would like to make mention of this in her children’s names, be it via punk band names or punk musicians. [name_u]Kit[/name_u], on the other hand, is an English literature teacher and would love to name his children after literary characters. The couple don’t mind who’s choice of name goes where as long as the name flows well
([name_u]Dream[/name_u] Wife; [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] - His Dark Materials; Chant - [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] Chant, Chrestomanci; Vanian - [name_m]Dave[/name_m] Vanian, front man of The Damned)
A young and sweet-natured couple come into your office. Their names are [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] and [name_f]Veda[/name_f]. Both of them are youth workers - having met through their training course - and they’re expecting a little girl together; which has left them excited, but somewhat nervous. They want their daughter’s first name to have a positive meaning (preferably meaning ‘kind’, or something similar). She’s going to have two middles as well. The first needs to be a tribute to [name_m]Daniel[/name_m]'s mother, [name_u]Simone[/name_u], in some manner, but not just repeating her name. Her second middle needs to be natured based.
[name_m]Robert[/name_m] and [name_f]Melissa[/name_f] have a little boy, [name_m]Cyprus[/name_m] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] [name_u]Dean[/name_u]. Naming him was really easy since they actually met in [name_m]Cyprus[/name_m] during a Study Abroad progam. [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] is [name_m]Robert[/name_m]‘s dad’s name, and [name_u]Dean[/name_u] is [name_f]Melissa[/name_f]‘s dad’s name. However, now they are pregnant with twin girls and they are having a hard time coming up with names. They have decided to to pick more Place names, but they are not sure which ones. They have narrowed down to six: [name_f]Vienna[/name_f] (their first trip together as a couple), [name_f]Astoria[/name_f] (where they got their first apartment), [name_f]Malta[/name_f] (their first kiss), [name_u]Holland[/name_u] (where he proposed), [name_f]Lourdes[/name_f] (one of the places they went on their honeymoon), [name_f]Ireland[/name_f] ([name_m]Robert[/name_m] is Irish). They are not sure which two sound better together and with [name_m]Cyprus[/name_m]. They want to honor their moms with the girls’ middle names, but their moms actually share a name: one of them is [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] and the other one is [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. They have also pulled out their grandmothers’ names: [name_f]Doris[/name_f] [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]. They just want their girls’ names to honor meaningful places and their loved ones.
[name_f]Vienna[/name_f] [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] [name_f]Maria[/name_f] and [name_f]Astoria[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]
A couple walks in, each with a child in their arms and a third child between them. The woman, who has mid-length blonde hair and brown eyes, introduces herself as [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] [name_u]Connelly[/name_u] and the 3 year old younger double of herself as [name_f]Evie[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_u]Connelly[/name_u]. She turns to her husband who has short brown hair and blue eyes and he introduces himself as [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] [name_u]Connelly[/name_u]. The 1 year old in his arms is called [name_u]Noah[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] [name_u]Connelly[/name_u]. The 6 year old between them is the perfect mix of them both. He has the same short, brown hair as his father and the same big brown eyes of his mother. His name is [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] [name_m]Harry[/name_m]. All three children are quiet and well behaved.
The couple reveal they are expecting again and are welcoming identical twin girls. The couple are English and want the girls to have names that are popular in [name_f]England[/name_f] [eg not [name_f]Kinsley[/name_f] as it is American, but [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] would be okay because although it is of Spanish origin, it is used in [name_f]England[/name_f]] They should be names that match well with their siblings and are 4-6 letters in length. Their first and middle names should NOT honour their parents or other siblings. Their middle names should also be used popularly in [name_f]England[/name_f] and should be 4-6 letters long.
The couple who enter the door are a tall, voluptuous woman with a wild spray of black corkscrew curls, accompanied by a smile that naturally puts you at ease and a smaller - around average height - slender woman with soft ginger hair wound up into a ponytail, fringe covering her forehead and freckles dancing across the bridge of her nose. They introduce themselves as [name_f]Gillian[/name_f] ‘[name_u]Gilly[/name_u]’ [name_f]Jacinta[/name_f] (the black haired woman) and [name_f]Faye[/name_f] [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] (the redhead) Gaten-[name_f]Lourdes[/name_f].
They’re delighted to tell you that they’ve succeed in adopting a three-month-old little girl who’ll be coming to them in the next month, but names are proving to be an issue. For her first name they want something feminine, lively and playful, ideally containing an X somewhere (but not beginning with one). Her first middle name needs to have its routes in the Caribbean, in reference to [name_u]Gilly[/name_u]'s heritage. The second needs to be a vintage classic, in reference to [name_f]Faye[/name_f]'s.
[name_m]Edward[/name_m] “[name_m]Ward[/name_m]” and [name_f]Roxanna[/name_f] “[name_f]Anna[/name_f]” need help naming their first child. They do not know what they are having. They want a first name that is pretty common but with an unexpected nickname. [name_m]Ward[/name_m] grew up on a beach in [name_m]Hawaii[/name_m] and [name_f]Anna[/name_f]'s Dad was a fishermen. So, they want a middle name that is water related.
[name_m]Edward[/name_m] “[name_m]Ward[/name_m]” and [name_f]Roxanna[/name_f] “[name_f]Anna[/name_f]” need help naming their first child. They don’t know what they are going to have. They want a pretty common first name with an unexpected nickname. [name_m]Ward[/name_m] grew up on a beach in [name_m]Hawaii[/name_m] and Annas father was a fisherman. So, the perfect middle name would be related to water.
Two women in their early 30’s walk into your office. One is tall and very striking to look at; with piercing blue eyes and waist length chocolate curls. The other is slightly shorter, with cropped platinum hair and a chiselled jawline. They introduce themselves as [name_f]Mariella[/name_f] [name_f]Naomi[/name_f] [name_u]Leone[/name_u] and [name_u]Jem[/name_u] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_u]Blake[/name_u]. [name_f]Mariella[/name_f] is very obviously pregnant and explains that she and [name_u]Jem[/name_u] are expecting twin girls in four months’ time.
Both women want their daughters to have names full of meaning, but with a beautiful soft sound. They would like one of them to have a name meaning courage/bravery/strength and one to mean humble/wise/noble. They are to have two middle names each which will be subtle honour names for their aunts and uncles; [name_f]Marguerita[/name_f], [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f], [name_f]Joy[/name_f], [name_u]Kit[/name_u], [name_u]Ray[/name_u], Dyl & [name_u]Gus[/name_u]. Extra points if you can honour them all.
([name_f]Valencia[/name_f] ‘brave/strong’ in Spanish; [name_f]Ismene[/name_f] - ‘knowledgeable’ in Greek
[name_f]Tirzah[/name_f] means ‘delight’, similar to the happiness of [name_f]Joy[/name_f]; [name_f]Sunniva[/name_f] means ‘sun gift’ - connection to [name_u]Ray[/name_u] ‘rays of the sun’ and can also be shortened to ‘[name_u]Sunny[/name_u]/[name_u]Sonny[/name_u]’, a quaint nickname similar to [name_u]Kit[/name_u] & [name_u]Gus[/name_u]
[name_f]Anise[/name_f] - a herb, like Dyl/Dill; [name_f]Mariella[/name_f] - phonetically similar to both [name_f]Marguerita[/name_f] & [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f])
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] I’ve managed to fit your criteria!
A young couple walk into your office, sharing small, nervous smiles as they take their seats. The young man has tufty brown hair swept out of his face and large glasses that make him look sweet, a contrast with his exceptional height; the young woman next to him has a cloud of hair swept up into two buns either side of her head, coloured a deep ebony, with a plumper figure. Introductions reveal their names are [name_m]Kellan[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] Gately and [name_f]Celia[/name_f]-[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Ramona[/name_f] Meliss.
They’re expecting a little boy, and feel utterly stumped on names! They want something unusual and quaint for his first name, similar to [name_m]Kipling[/name_m] - a name they loved, but it was recently chosen by a cousin of [name_f]Celia[/name_f]-[name_f]Jane[/name_f]'s for his son - that’ll allow a sweet nickname. His first middle name needs to be water based (but not [name_u]Ocean[/name_u] or [name_u]River[/name_u]). Second needs to be a tribute of some variety to [name_m]Kellan[/name_m]'s older brother [name_m]Alastair[/name_m] and [name_f]Celia[/name_f]-[name_f]Jane[/name_f]'s younger brother [name_m]Merrick[/name_m], preferably in its meaning (brave/power/strength).
[name_m]Irving[/name_m] means “sea friend”, as well as being similar in style to [name_m]Kipling[/name_m].

A young woman comes into your office. She has a short brunette bob cut and is using a wheelchair, and introduces herself as [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_m]Conway[/name_m]. She tells you she is expecting a child with her SO and already has a daughter named [name_u]Winslow[/name_u] [name_f]Virginia[/name_f] “[name_f]Winnie[/name_f]”. The child is going to be another girl, and they would like a similar name in style. The name cannot start with W, V, E, J, C, D, or M, and must start with an “uncommon” letter. It should also have unique sounds (such as the “o” sound in [name_u]Winslow[/name_u]'s name) and be relatively gender-neutral. The middle name should have a sweet, quaint feel to it like [name_f]Virginia[/name_f], and should be a lesser known alternative to a trendy name. In this case, [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] chose [name_f]Virginia[/name_f] because she loved the name [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] for it’s “Vi___ia” pattern, and so chose [name_f]Virginia[/name_f] as an alternative. Lastly, the two names should share a sound that lends itself to a cute nickname—in [name_u]Winslow[/name_u]'s name, the sound is “in”: Winslow Virginia = Winnie.
A young woman walks into your office proudly displaying a rounded stomach under a grey denim smock. She pauses to push her long wispy red hair from her cheek and introduces herself as [name_f]Bria[/name_f] [name_u]Carmen[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. She explains she is pregnant with baby number three, a sibling for Laerke [name_u]Bay[/name_u] and [name_f]Dorete[/name_f] [name_u]Story[/name_u]. She doesn’t know the gender of her baby, but would like a unique sounding Danish name for her unborn child to match that of her daughters. She is big on word names, so the middle name must be a word name ending in Y. She would like an option for a boy and an option for a girl.
The woman who comes into your office appears to be in her late twenties. Her bump is just beginning to press against the floral patterned fabric of her maxi dress, and she’s fashioned her dirty blonde hair into a milkmaid braid. A toddler is clutching her right hand and eagerly hurrying forwards, his hair a lighter golden shade and his cheeks awash with freckles. The woman introduces herself as Cate Susannah Harroughby and warmly tells you this is her two and a half year old son, Ives Weston.
She and her partner’s older son, three year old Hartigan ‘Hart’ Elio, is at nursery, and they’re now expecting their first little girl! Both their sons’ first names are inspired by artists - a nod to the fact Cate designs and sells custom ceramics, whilst her partner Marco is a biographer - and they want the same for their upcoming arrival, with the charming, quirky flair Hartigan and Ives possess. Her middle name needs to be just as interesting, preferably ending on an ‘I’ spelling.
