Is [name]Bristol[/name] too attached to [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Palin[/name]. DH and I do not follow politics so we really don’t care, but we would not want people thinking we named our daughter after her. We love the cowgirl/western feel that we get from the name! Can you see [name]Bristol[/name] with my other daughters and being a twin to [name]Delaney[/name]?
I love [name]Bristol[/name]! And yes, it absolutely goes with your other children’s names. I think the [name]Bristol[/name] [name]Palin[/name] association is fading. I definetely get the cowgirl/western vibe from [name]Bristol[/name].
I think of [name]Bristol[/name] [name]Palin[/name] first, the city of [name]Bristol[/name] second, and then the cockney rhyming slang " [name]Bristol[/name] cities."
I don’t get a western vibe at all ! Sorry to be the [name]Debbie[/name] downer but I don’t think this is a usable name.
Names I think would fit better:
[name]Cassidy[/name]
[name]Juniper[/name]
[name]Maybelle[/name]
[name]Sage[/name]
[name]Sky[/name]
Or if you like place names perhaps some western cities or states might sound good.
It might work in the US but it is not usable in the UK, mainly due to the city of [name]Bristol[/name].
[name]Bristol[/name] is a huge GP for me! I don’t know if I would ever use it for myself but I think it is gorgeous with your sibset. I can definitely see twins [name]Bristol[/name] and [name]Delaney[/name]! I like [name]Meredith[/name] here as well if you don’t use it for [name]Delaney[/name]. [name]Bristol[/name] [name]Meredith[/name] [name]Kane[/name] would be stunning! It think [name]Bristol[/name] is a very western cowgirl name! It definitely fits the theme and sounds great with all your children
Thank you everyone! The opinions seem to be pretty mixed. @woodensandals - I don’t understand from your post why you think it is “unusable” [name]Do[/name] you really think it is unusable or do you just not like it? Your post leads me to think it is more the latter…
@sheflyswithherownwings - We are in the US so I don’t see the city connection being a problem for us
@dillonsfan01 - I [name]LOVE[/name] your suggestion of [name]Bristol[/name] [name]Meredith[/name] [name]Kane[/name]!! This just might be our name! Thank You
SO excited to see this! [name]Bristol[/name] is my sisters name nn Brissy! Shes older than [name]Bristol[/name] [name]Palin[/name] so I dont associate the name with that and I dont think other people do either, she gets a lot of compliments.
First, I like the name. I do associate it with [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Palin[/name], definitely. But that was more from seeing [name]Bristol[/name]'s name in the entertainment magazines than hearing it in political talk… Since the media is less obsessed with her now, I think you’re good! I like it with [name]Delaney[/name]
I think it’s nice, but I would for sure think of [name]Bristol[/name] [name]Palin[/name]- and even if you personally don’t follow politics most other folks do have pretty strong feelings about [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Palin[/name].
Thank you!
@thetxbelle - I am glad to hear that a real life [name]Bristol[/name] has such good experiences with her name! Brissy is an adorable NN as well
@r_j - I agree that I do not hear about the [name]Palin[/name] family very much anymore so I am hoping [name]Bristol[/name] will be fine. It’s not like we are naming her [name]Palin[/name].
While [name]Bristol[/name] [name]Palin[/name] may have faded from the spotlight [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Palin[/name] is very much still around and I think [name]Bristol[/name], as a name, will be connected with her for a while longer. [name]Even[/name] if you don’t “follow” politics others will make the connection, for better or worse. I would not use any name associated so closely with a public figure.
Aww! I am so glad you like it! It’s just adorable
I actually really like [name]Bristol[/name], in a GPish sort of way! It doesn’t really fit my other girls’ names, but I do like it a lot and I think [name]Delaney[/name] and [name]Bristol[/name] would be perfect for twin sisters. It totally has a cowgirl vibe to me, despite most of my associations to the name have nothing to do with the Midwest. [name]Bristol[/name] [name]Meredith[/name] [name]Kane[/name] is just lovely!
It’s not really my style but I don’t think it’s a bad name. I think it would sound perfect with [name]Delaney[/name] as a sib-set. I really don’t think of [name]Bristol[/name] [name]Palin[/name], but rather a really pretty town back home ([name]Bristol[/name], Rhode Island).
[name]Bristol[/name] is lovely and matches your sibset. Who cares about [name]Bristol[/name] [name]Palin[/name], she won’t always be in the lime light.
I wrote that I think it’s unusable because of [name]Bristol[/name] [name]Palin[/name] who is trying to stay in the spotlight. Having a name associated with a reality tv star who is most famous for being an unwed teen mom despite having a politically conservative mother is a big negative.
[name]Bristol[/name] does fit with your other children’s names. However, it doesn’t sound western to me at all, since it makes me think of the city in [name]England[/name]. I wouldn’t go so far as to call it unusable, but people will definitely have strong (and often very negative) associations with it.
Would you consider [name]Phoenix[/name] instead of [name]Bristol[/name]? It’s another place name, but with a definite western feel AND a neat mythological association.
Thank you for the opinions!
@woodensandals - Thank you for clarify I was having a hard time from your last post. I really wonder if by the time our daughter gets older if anyone will even remember [name]Bristol[/name] [name]Palin[/name]…
@holey - Thank you for the suggestion but [name]Phoenix[/name] does not really appeal to me, especially not for a girl. If I saw [name]Delaney[/name] and [name]Phoenix[/name] twins I would assume one was a boy.
You know what? I’ve had the same issue with one of my favorite names–[name]Jasper[/name]. A lot of people immediately jump to the Twilight association, which is lost on me, since I have never read the book. I finally decided that I’m not going to let a book most people probably won’t care about in ten years stop me from using a name I love. If you love [name]Bristol[/name], go for it. The [name]Bristol[/name] [name]Palin[/name] association will fade eventually, and in the meantime, it’s not that hard to say, “no, we didn’t name her after [name]Bristol[/name] [name]Palin[/name]. We just like the name.”
