A question for Brits, and in particular those from south east [name]England[/name]:
If you saw the name [name]Lucia[/name], how would automatically thing to pronounce it? Would you pronounce it differently if it was [name]Luc[/name]ía?
I got to thinking that the pronunciation I use is based on my heritage, but it probably isn’t the typical one most people here would go to. Not that that bothers me - my birth name has 3 different pronunciations and when I was still going by that name I just told people “say it however you want”! So if I ever did have a [name]Lucia[/name] and she couldn’t get “our” pronunciation to catch on it wouldn’t be a huge deal to me. I’m just curious as to what people would naturally come to
Not a [name]Brit[/name], but my go-to is loo-SEE-ah… the Spanish pronunciation. loo-CHEE-ah would be my next choice. LOO-sha just never seemed logical to me.
loo-CHEE-ah is the pronunciation I would use (because it’s Italian, as mentioned, and so am I) so it’s nice to see that most people are on the same track LOO-sha is the only pronunciation that I don’t like the sound of, even though my cat’s name is [name]Lucia[/name] pronounced that way! But that’s because she was named after St. [name]Lucia[/name] by my stepdad as that’s where his family’s from.
