If you google [name]Bronx[/name] Zoo [name]Lion[/name] Cub Naming Contest, you can participate in a contest to name three lion cubs at the [name]Bronx[/name] zoo. I think you have to be a NY resident to possibly win the contest. But I just had to vote even though I’m a Californian. Two of the cubs are female and one is male.
I named them [name]Zsa[/name] [name]Zsa[/name], [name]Eva[/name], and [name]Laszlo[/name].
What would you name the lion cubs?
You have until [name]Saturday[/name], [name]May[/name] 8th to name the cubs.
Good choices!
I entered as well and named them-
[name]Linnea[/name]
Freyja
Tzar
Thank you for sharing!
[name]Hi[/name]!
I did this once at my zoo! I’d name the cubs [name]African[/name] names, since they are [name]African[/name] lions, of course…
Mom is Sukari and dad is M’wasi. Big sister is [name]Moxie[/name]!
[name]Ulan[/name] - “firstborn twin” M
[name]Kessie[/name] - “chubby baby” F
[name]Dayo[/name] - “joy arrives” F
I would name them [name]Ulan[/name], [name]Kessie[/name], and [name]Dayo[/name]!
[name]Lemon[/name]
Artaxes “[name]Artie[/name]” - “lion-ruler” or “great ruler”
[name]Apolline[/name] - possible “father lion”
[name]Ariel[/name] - “lion of God”
Since the cubs’ parents have Swahili names, I would give the cubs Swahili names as well.
And since I like anagrams, I’m using only Swahili names that can be formed from a combination of the letters of the father’s name (M’wasi, meaning “rebel”) and the mother’s name (Sukari, meaning “[name]Sugar[/name]”).
For the girls:
[name]Imara[/name] (meaning “strong”)
Maua (meaning “flowers”)
For the boy:
Amri (meaning “order; authority”)
– [name]Nephele[/name]
They have a sister named [name]Moxie[/name]?! Eeek! This is right up my ally!
I would name them [name]Hero[/name], [name]Fable[/name] and [name]Dezi[/name]!
At my zoo you have to pay bunches of money to name the babies. It’s super lame. But if you’re rich you can name them whatever you want.
I decided that with big sis [name]Moxie[/name], the cubs should be named [name]Sheba[/name], [name]Coco[/name], and [name]Blaze[/name]…
[name]Lemon[/name]
That’s so cool, [name]Nephele[/name]! You should name all the zoo animals.
Hmm, what about some silly names?
[name]Moxie[/name], Chutzpah, Spunk, and Tenacity
[name]Silly[/name] names are fun!
[name]How[/name] about
[name]Moxie[/name]
Clawdia
Fangshway
Roarie

Thanks, [name]Susan[/name]! I’m not entering the contest, though.
My favorite zoo babies were the wild dog pups I “met” a few years ago at the [name]Bronx[/name] Zoo. Oh, and also the [name]Bronx[/name] Zoo’s snow leopard babies from awhile back.
The snow leopard babies have now grown up, and (like most adult children) have moved out of their parents’ home. They are now living at the Central [name]Park[/name] Zoo in a new and gorgeous snow leopard exhibit that opened up last year.

[name]Snow[/name] Leopards are my favorite animals! Except for house cats.
