What do you all think of naming a boy [name_u]Brook[/name_u]? The name [name_u]Brooks[/name_u] was at 109 last year, but our last name ends in an s so it would clash with a first name ending in an s also. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it’s too feminine? Usable?
I don’t think it works. [name_u]Brooke[/name_u] is very common for girls, so [name_u]Brook[/name_u] would get constantly misgendered and misspelled, which would be annoying. Maybe [name_m]Bram[/name_m] or [name_u]Beck[/name_u]?
I find it usable, might get misspelled occasionally but if you don’t mind correcting, it’s nice I think the spelling differs it from [name_u]Brooke[/name_u], so doesn’t feel feminine to me. More as a unisex nature name.
I think [name_u]Brook[/name_u] works ! I personally see it as unisex. I really like it and prefer it on a boy
Other names that are similar:
[name_m]Brock[/name_m]
[name_m]Bram[/name_m]
[name_m]Booker[/name_m]
[name_m]Beckham[/name_m]
[name_u]Beckett[/name_u]
[name_m]Brody[/name_m]
[name_m]Broderick[/name_m]
I don’t think its too feminine but he might be assumed to be a girl frequently.
I think [name_u]Brook[/name_u] totally works. I mean, it’s a nature name, and those are generally unisex, so I don’t see why [name_u]Brook[/name_u] couldn’t be. If it were spelled [name_u]Brooke[/name_u], it would seem more feminine, but just [name_u]Brook[/name_u] is fine. If you aren’t sure, though, maybe you’d like [name_u]Beck[/name_u], which means “little brook”.
I really like it for a boy! It’s like a naturey [name_m]Clark[/name_m] or [name_m]Jack[/name_m], with its strong and simple sound.
Beck is also a really nice alternative as mentioned above
Definitely works! It feels fresh for a boy, and I like it a lot.
I think he would get misgendered and misspelled pretty often.
I actually quite like it. It has a rugged feel. I do think it might be confused for [name_u]Brooke[/name_u] but if you’re willing to take that risk, it’s a great name
Thanks everyone! I figured it might be a mixed bag, so I thought I would ask opinions. Hubby didn’t say yes or no to it yet I have an older son with a unisex name and people have been pretty good sports about it. Usually when I call for appointments or anything I just start with, "my sons name is … "
This. 101%.
I like [name_u]Brooks[/name_u] but I wouldn’t use it either with your surname.
Love the name [name_u]Brook[/name_u]/Brooke. It definitely works! There is a Metal band called Impending Doom and their singers name happens to be [name_u]Brook[/name_u]. One of the actors in the movie “The Lost Boys” was named [name_u]Brooke[/name_u] as well. It’s such a handsome name!
I know a male [name_u]Brook[/name_u], but he’s in his 30s so [name_u]Brooke[/name_u] wasn’t so common for girls then I don’t think. Unsure if he’s ever had a problem with it but when I was a kid I thought it was a boy’s name!
If you don’t mind that [name_u]Brooke[/name_u] is a common girls name I’d say its fine. That unisex should swing more both ways but tends to dip once a name skews more towards girls, which feels kinda icky to me personally but people have their reasons.
If you’re kinda bothered I’d suggest Brookdale or Penbrook as alternatives.
For me [name_u]Brook[/name_u] feels feminine whereas [name_u]Brooks[/name_u] feels masculine despite both being unisex choices. I personally can’t see [name_u]Brook[/name_u] working for a boy. Have you thought of [name_u]Beck[/name_u]? [name_u]Beck[/name_u] has a similar vibe to [name_u]Brook[/name_u] but feels more masculine.
I sold my car to a man named “[name_u]Brook[/name_u]” last year! He was Middle Eastern I think. Many people are going to think it sounds feminine, but the girls keep stealing all the boys names. Time to steal them back I say! I have an uncle named [name_u]Kim[/name_u]. I think it is very safe as a middle name.
I feel like it’s unisex and like it on both genders
I would go with [name_u]Brooks[/name_u]. I think it would be better to have a last name that clashes than be confused for [name_u]Brooke[/name_u].
Also, my last name ends in S too. Ruins so many names I like.
I like it a lot! Very handsome, but I agree that it will probably be misspelled sometimes so it is up to whether that bothers you or not!
