I haven’t been on here for a while, but we are now expecting surprise baby #3 and I need your help with the baby boy’s name.
Our two other kids are [name_f]Adriana[/name_f] [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] and [name_u]Ellington[/name_u] [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]. The first name is music-related (daughter’s name is from a favorite song of ours and son’s name honors [name_m]Duke[/name_m] [name_u]Ellington[/name_u]). The middle names are nature names that start with J because my maiden name starts with J and my mom’s and [name_f]MIL[/name_f]'s names start with J. Our last name is a three syllable name that starts and ends with the letter O.
So far we have two options:
[name_f]Cypress[/name_f] [name_m]Jarrett[/name_m]
and
[name_m]Evander[/name_m] [name_m]Coltrane[/name_m]
Both first names are unusual like [name_u]Ellington[/name_u] and the middle names honor jazz musicians. I miss the J name in the second combination, but I like that the brothers won’t have the exact same initials and it kind of makes up for the lack of nature name with ECO as initials.
I would love your thoughts on these names and any other suggestions you might have. Thank you so much for your time!
I wouldn’t focus on what your first 2 children’s names have in common. I would focus on finding a name that is meaningful and that you love for #3. It doesn’t have go be meaningful in the same ways. Obviously it CAN be in the same ways, but stress over ways it “falls short.”
I personally love [name_m]Evander[/name_m].

I think that [name_m]Evander[/name_m] [name_m]Coltrane[/name_m] really fits with his brother’s name well, but I feel like [name_f]Cypress[/name_f] fits with both brother and sister in a nice way–[name_f]Adriana[/name_f] sounds like “Adriatic” and [name_f]Cypress[/name_f] reminds me of trees you’d see near that ocean, and also [name_u]Juniper[/name_u], [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], and [name_f]Cypress[/name_f] all line up beautifully. I’m less a fan of [name_m]Jarrett[/name_m] though. [name_f]Cypress[/name_f] [name_m]Coltrane[/name_m]? [name_f]Cypress[/name_f] [name_m]Fitzgerald[/name_m]? [name_f]Cypress[/name_f] [name_m]Cole[/name_m]? All that said, [name_m]Evander[/name_m] [name_m]Coltrane[/name_m] is beautiful and I like it too.
I really like both [name_m]Evander[/name_m] and [name_f]Cypress[/name_f]. I feel like [name_m]Evander[/name_m] goes a little better with [name_u]Ellington[/name_u], but I agree that [name_f]Cypress[/name_f] is really nice with [name_f]Adriana[/name_f]. For the coolness factor, I’m gonna have to give it to [name_f]Cypress[/name_f], and [name_m]Cy[/name_m] is a nice diminutive, though I like [name_u]Van[/name_u] a lot too. And I like the [name_f]Cypress[/name_f] [name_m]Coltrane[/name_m] suggestion, has a nice ring to it.

I’m inclined to say stick to the music themed first and the nature I name just don’t start the name with and E or an A because like you said they’ll share initials. I thought I would chime in with the other side of this since everyone else seems to be voting [name_m]Evander[/name_m]… I really like [name_m]Evander[/name_m] but something about them sharing first initials and the third child missing out on the connection with the theme and initials and as you don’t seem set on it… [name_m]Worth[/name_m] looking at …
Something neat about cypress is it’s so different from your kids but also maybe too different?
[name_m]Jarrett[/name_m] cypress pairs better I think but then your I us out of place … Then [name_m]Evander[/name_m] [name_m]Jarett[/name_m] I like best bu t matching initials …alternatives could be [name_m]Leander[/name_m] [name_m]Lysander[/name_m] [name_m]Xander[/name_m] [name_u]Sander[/name_u] Skander or [name_m]Vander[/name_m]
I get that they may not have the connection you’re looking for though but worth sitting through. As for middles… [name_m]Jarrett[/name_m] or you’ve got a planet and a Greek god , a precious stone and a treasure, how about… A [name_m]Jaguar[/name_m] ? Or [name_f]Journey[/name_f] ? I’m kinda going for nature but perhaps also music… It is best to choose what you like best over what you’re trying to get but there’s probably middle ground… Either way though something will feel right eventually.
I adore [name_m]Fitzgerald[/name_m]. I think [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] is so cute but so is [name_u]Jaz[/name_u]. [name_m]Joplin[/name_m] is a really cute name too. I’m a big [name_u]Sam[/name_u] Cooke fan and I think Cooke is cute. [name_m]Coltrane[/name_m] is super cool ” It doesn’t really have a music reference that I know of but I think [name_u]Jericho[/name_u] is a good strong boy name.
