I like your names!

[name]Wilbur[/name] nn [name]Will[/name] - Definitely time to bring back this classic, imo.
[name]Calvin[/name] - Not such a fan of this one.
[name]Arthur[/name] - [name]Love[/name] [name]Arthur[/name], but I think you’d have to choose either [name]Arthur[/name] or [name]Wilbur[/name].
[name]Duncan[/name] - Has a similar sound to [name]Edmund[/name]. I think it’s the “-un-” bit.
[name]Hugh[/name] - A great name. Have you considered [name]Hugo[/name]?
[name]August[/name] nn [name]Gus[/name] - Seems to be getting more popular lately.
[name]Leopold[/name] nn [name]Leo[/name] - I prefer [name]Leon[/name] or just [name]Leo[/name].
[name]Samson[/name] nn [name]Sam[/name] - This one seems a little different in style to the others. I prefer [name]Samuel[/name] with your other names.
[name]Jonah[/name] nn [name]Joe[/name] - Cute.
[name]Walter[/name] nn [name]Walt[/name] - This one seems less masculine to me because of the weedy [name]Walter[/name] character who gets bullied by [name]Dennis[/name] the Menace.
[name]Wilford[/name] nn [name]Will[/name] (family name) - Nice! Different and works really well as a first name.
[name]Wilfred[/name] nn [name]Will[/name] - I like this [name]Will[/name]-name too!
[name]Frederick[/name] nn [name]Fritz[/name] - I agree, [name]Freddie[/name] is more likely as a nn.
[name]Otto[/name] - Not really my style.
[name]Piers[/name] - Classic English!
[name]Vincent[/name] - Underused, but very strong name. [name]Love[/name] it.
[name]Ivan[/name] [name]Charles[/name] nn [name]Ike[/name] - Not so sure about this one.
[name]Abraham[/name] nn [name]Bram[/name] - [name]Love[/name] the nn [name]Bram[/name].
[name]Bertram[/name] nn [name]Bram[/name] - [name]How[/name] about [name]Bernard[/name]?
[name]Gregory[/name] nn [name]Rory[/name]/[name]Grey[/name] - I love [name]Gregory[/name], but would you not use the nn [name]Greg[/name]?
[name]Albert[/name] - nn [name]Albie[/name] is cute! And how about [name]Alfred[/name]?

With regards to the -u sound/pattern, I think [name]Edmund[/name] and [name]Duncan[/name] are a little too similar (but not unusable together). [name]Edmund[/name] would be fine with [name]Arthur[/name]/[name]Wilbur[/name] or [name]Hugh[/name] though.

I should add that my favourite is [name]Arthur[/name].

eskay- thanks so much for your comments, they really confirmed my own thoughts! [name]Arthur[/name] was my number two for a long time, but it’s getting quite popular here now and I don’t really like [name]Art[/name] as a nn. Very sad to let [name]Duncan[/name] go :frowning:
lori- Haha, not sure about 8 boys! I’m trying to plan 3 names altogether. I really like the [name]Bertram[/name] [name]Charles[/name]/[name]Calvin[/name] [name]Frederick[/name] combos! On [name]Hugo[/name], it’s quite trendy here in the UK, so I much prefer [name]Hugh[/name]. Thanks a lot!

Any other thoughts?

[name]Edmund[/name] and [name]Arthur[/name] ‘[name]Artie[/name]’

[name]Edmund[/name] and [name]Leopold[/name]

I also like [name]Edmund[/name] and [name]Leonard[/name].

I voted [name]Arthur[/name], but I also want to vote [name]Duncan[/name]. They are both great names, and I think would work extremely well with [name]Edmund[/name] [name]Henry[/name]. Gotta say, great name!

Thanks, everyone! This has really helped narrow down our list: I think [name]Arthur[/name], [name]Leopold[/name], [name]Walter[/name], [name]Hugh[/name] and [name]Wilbur[/name]/[name]Wilford[/name] are the top contenders now.
gigigibbons- [name]Just[/name] want to say that I really love the combos in your signature, they’ve made me start crushing on [name]Elsa[/name] and [name]Henrik[/name]!

I love [name]Edmund[/name] and [name]Leopold[/name]. [name]Both[/name] are clunky cool, rarely heard, regal choices.

I am all for [name]Walter[/name]!

That was so hard! I voted for [name]Edmund[/name] and [name]Arthur[/name], but I think [name]Edmund[/name] would sound great with [name]Samson[/name] and [name]Leopold[/name] as well.

With [name]Edmund[/name] nn [name]Eddie[/name] I love [name]Arthur[/name] nn [name]Artie[/name]/[name]Archie[/name]

I really like Leopald and [name]Samson[/name] … [name]Eddie[/name] and [name]Sam[/name] is my favorite though. I have cousins ( brothers) called [name]Edward[/name] and [name]Samson[/name].

We came up with the name when our little guy was 2 days old, and we still absolutely love it. It’s so unconventional, yet classic - exactly what we wanted. I’ve also been pondering the name of a second boy, and the one that always comes to mind is [name]William[/name]… unfortunately extremely trendy, so we’ll probably think of something else. [name]Albert[/name] is my pick.

I like your name style! We aim for a similar style. Thoughts on individual names:

[name]Wilbur[/name] nn [name]Will[/name] - [name]Love[/name] [name]Will[/name], but [name]Wilbur[/name] sounds a but awkward to me. [name]William[/name] maintains a more distinguished air.

[name]Calvin[/name] - Okay, I like this name but it has distinct religious undertones to me so that limits it’s use a little [name]IMO[/name].

[name]Arthur[/name] - [name]Love[/name]! Wish Dh hadn’t vetoed it. [name]Just[/name] has a very noble feel to me.

[name]Duncan[/name] - Like [name]Wilbur[/name], this one still seems a little clunky but I do like it better than [name]Wilbur[/name]. It has a slight distinguished feel to it.

[name]Hugh[/name] - Really like this name. We nixed it on our list though because when we said out loud enough, it did seem to lack some substance ([name]Hugo[/name] feels stronger to me).

[name]August[/name] nn [name]Gus[/name] - [name]Love[/name]! The name, the meaning, and the nn.

[name]Leopold[/name] nn [name]Leo[/name] - [name]Leopold[/name] is a little over the top for me, but [name]Leo[/name] is great.

[name]Samson[/name] nn [name]Sam[/name] - Not bad, but I love [name]Samuel[/name] more.

[name]Jonah[/name] nn [name]Joe[/name] - I know it’s biblical, but this one admittedly feels too trendy to me. [name]Joe[/name] technically “works” as a nn, but it’s a bit of a disconnect in style. Would prefer more old-fashioned-sounding [name]Joseph[/name].

[name]Walter[/name] nn [name]Walt[/name] - It’s growing on me but still feels a bit too old-man right now. (Although my Great Uncle [name]Walter[/name] was a great man!)

[name]Wilford[/name] nn [name]Will[/name] (family name) - Again, prefer classic [name]William[/name].

[name]Wilfred[/name] nn [name]Will[/name] - Same as above.

[name]Frederick[/name] nn [name]Fritz[/name] - [name]Love[/name]! Also like the nn [name]Freddy[/name] or [name]Frank[/name].

[name]Otto[/name] - Very distinguished. Not sure I’d ever use it though.

[name]Piers[/name] - [name]Love[/name]. Simple, short, distinguished.

[name]Vincent[/name] - [name]Love[/name]. And nn [name]Vince[/name] is so nice.

[name]Ivan[/name] [name]Charles[/name] nn [name]Ike[/name] - Okay. [name]Ivan[/name] doesn’t “need” a nn [name]IMO[/name] though.

[name]Abraham[/name] nn [name]Bram[/name] - Really like. Also like [name]Abram[/name] nn [name]Bram[/name].

[name]Bertram[/name] nn [name]Bram[/name] - Prefer [name]Abraham[/name] and [name]Abram[/name].

[name]Gregory[/name] nn [name]Rory[/name]/[name]Grey[/name] - Loooove. Tried to get Dh on board with [name]Gregory[/name] but he wouldn’t bite. [name]Grey[/name] is a great nn.

[name]Albert[/name] - A little too nerdy for me (same category as [name]Wilbur[/name] and [name]Duncan[/name]).

[name]Edmund[/name] is a wonderful name, I name I would have used had I more sons.

I would go with [name]Arthur[/name], [name]Duncan[/name], or [name]Hugh[/name].
