Brother for Emmett James?

My son’s name is [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u], and our last name is three syllables and ends in “-son.”

I think we’ve narrowed baby brother’s name down to two top choices:

[name_m]Harris[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] (we would call him [name_m]Harry[/name_m])
[name_m]Felix[/name_m] [name_m]Harris[/name_m]

My husband and I are both leaning more toward [name_m]Harry[/name_m] (I like [name_m]Felix[/name_m] more than he does). One thing I’m not sure about is naming him [name_m]Harris[/name_m], though. It’s a family name, but we really don’t ever intend to call him that if we use it as a first name… we would always call him [name_m]Harry[/name_m]. I think we should just name him “[name_m]Harry[/name_m]” then, but my husband feels “[name_m]Harris[/name_m]” will give him more flexibility once he’s older if he wants a more formal name. We didn’t have the nickname quandary with [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] since we thought it was a nickname-proof name (though of course his preschool teacher calls him “[name_f]Em[/name_f],” which I thoroughly dislike!)

Thanks for any feedback!

I personally prefer [name_m]Felix[/name_m] [name_m]Harris[/name_m] - I adore [name_m]Felix[/name_m]! And even with the similar endings, I think this pair works well!

Using a variation to honor [name_m]Harris[/name_m] would still work as an honor, but I tend to agree with your husband on this (sorry!). I’m not a super huge fan of [name_m]Harry[/name_m] by itself, and I think [name_m]Harris[/name_m] would give him a nice option as he gets older (on resumes, etc). [name_m]Harris[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is a great combination!!

Either way, your son will have a terrific name! ([name_u]Emmett[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] is great, too!)

Good [name_m]Luck[/name_m]!

I love [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] and [name_m]Felix[/name_m] together, but [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] and [name_m]Harris[/name_m] works too. I prefer [name_m]Harris[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] to [name_m]Felix[/name_m] [name_m]Harris[/name_m]–the latter doesn’t have the best flow.

Another thought, just to be difficult–[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]/[name_u]Theo[/name_u] [name_m]Harris[/name_m]. [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] and [name_u]Theo[/name_u] would be awesome too!

Agree with all of the above.

I love [name_m]Harris[/name_m] with [name_u]Emmett[/name_u]! I would call him [name_m]Harris[/name_m], but that is just me.

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions, everyone!

And I also really like [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] with the nickname “[name_u]Theo[/name_u].” The trouble is that’s also a family name (it’s my husband’s grandfather’s name), and he is against using it as a first name because it’s his cousin’s name (though his cousin goes by “[name_m]Ted[/name_m]” or “[name_u]Teddy[/name_u]”). I think it would be fine to use it again (especially given the different nickname), but my husband disagrees.
