I think that the incredibly handsome [name]Dashiell[/name] is just perfect with [name]Griffin[/name] (which is a great name). [name]August[/name] and [name]Oscar[/name] (although the latter almost seems too vintage) would also work well, in my opinion, and to a lesser extent so would the handsome but more popular [name]Leo[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name].
[name]Do[/name] you have any middle name ideas at the moment? Another Islamic name, perhaps? An Arabic family live down the road from us, and the men are name [name]Faruq[/name] and [name]Amir[/name] - I think [name]Amir[/name] has a great sound. I used to teach a little boy called Jafar, too, which reminds me both of [name]Jaffa[/name] Cakes and [name]Jasper[/name]
I think they all go well with [name]Griffin[/name] really. I voted for [name]Oliver[/name] because it is my favorite and it complements [name]Griffin[/name] perfectly. The only one I really dislike is Rigsby, and [name]Neil[/name] is not a favorite. My second choice would be either [name]Oscar[/name] or [name]Leo[/name].
Thank you! We just absolutely love [name]Griffin[/name], and we’re hoping to find an equally dashing name. Granted, Karif’s parents were not so keen on our “modern American” name tastes, but we pleased them with the most popular Islamic boy’s name in the middle.
[name]Just[/name] wanted to point out: one of the really cool things about the name [name]August[/name] is that Karif’s name means ‘born in [name]Autumn[/name]’ and he was actually born at the tail-end of [name]August[/name], sort of at the beginning of [name]Autumn[/name]. So, [name]August[/name] would be honoring Karif, which would be a lovely addition to a lovely name.
We haven’t really narrowed down the middle name choices very much; we sort of have a jumble of names that work with some of these choices and not with others. (they are all Islamic names) [name]Lovely[/name] suggestions! We actually already had [name]Amir[/name] and [name]Faruq[/name] on our list - they are very popular and wonderful names. Lately, [name]August[/name] [name]Faruq[/name] has been growing on me, as with [name]Dashiell[/name] [name]Amir[/name]. Our middle thoughts are:
[name]Amir[/name]
[name]Faruq[/name]
[name]Abbas[/name]
Ahmar
Raees
[name]Hasan[/name]
[name]Ishmael[/name]
Tasadduq (an old name, but Karif loves it)
[name]Tariq[/name]
Any thoughts with these new middles?
Haha, that’s part of our problem. I think they all work and I love them all, and that’s why my husband, Karif, said we should really get a second opinion. (Rigsby and [name]Neil[/name] were initially Karif’s picks, not mine, although I have grown to love them )
I agree! I think they sound great together. Thanks for voting!
Funny you should suggest that because [name]Ishmael[/name] is on our list! [name]August[/name] [name]Ishmael[/name] does sound wonderful…I love vowel names next to each other!
Thanks everyone for voting!! If you have some opinions on the middles, I’d love to hear them. Thanks
[name]Dashiell[/name], [name]August[/name], and [name]Oliver[/name] seem to be the favorites in the polls! Thanks so much for voting!
Here are some combos that I put together using the middles I previously listed - if you have any comments, let me know! I know that some Americans don’t find Islamic names that appealing, but I would still love to hear your thoughts on flow and how it works with [name]Griffin[/name] [name]Mohammed[/name]. Thanks!
[name]Fletcher[/name] Raees
[name]Forrest[/name] [name]Ishmael[/name]
[name]Forrest[/name] Ahmar
[name]Neil[/name] Tasadduq
[name]Riley[/name] [name]Faruq[/name]
[name]Leo[/name] [name]Hasan[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name] [name]Ishmael[/name] (I really like this one)
[name]August[/name] [name]Faruq[/name] (this one too)
[name]August[/name] [name]Ishmael[/name]
[name]August[/name] Ahmar
[name]Dashiell[/name] [name]Amir[/name]
[name]Dashiell[/name] Ahmar
[name]Dashiell[/name] Raees
[name]Oscar[/name] [name]Ishmael[/name]
[name]Dashiell[/name], [name]August[/name], and [name]Oliver[/name] seem to be the favorites in the polls! Thanks so much for voting!

Hey! I love your list so much! My favorites with [name]Griffin[/name] is probably [name]Oliver[/name], but I love [name]August[/name], [name]Dashiell[/name], and [name]Leo[/name], too, and I think that [name]Fletcher[/name] works really well with [name]Griffin[/name].
From the above middles, I love [name]Oliver[/name] [name]Ishmael[/name] (so cool!), [name]August[/name] [name]Ishmael[/name], and [name]Dashiell[/name] Raees (I’m pronouncing Raees with one syllable, but I have a feeling I may be pronouncing it wrong.).
I think [name]Dashiell[/name] [name]Amir[/name] has brilliant flow, and is very handsome. I also really like [name]August[/name] [name]Faruq[/name] (or [name]August[/name] Ahmar) and the connection to your husband’s name is lovely.
I find myself unable to offer a preference on your Islamic names … I think the lack of familiarity means that I like them all, as I don’t really have any connotations (other than the [name]Faruq[/name] and [name]Amir[/name] I know). I think they all have a nice sound, though.
With some of the other names on your list, I like :
[name]Oscar[/name] [name]Faruq[/name]/Tasadduq
[name]Leo[/name] Raees
[name]Oliver[/name] [name]Ishmael[/name]
[name]Forrest[/name] [name]Amir[/name].
I think [name]Dashiell[/name] works best with [name]Griffin[/name].
What about [name]Dashiell[/name] Rayaan?
Rayaan is a relative newcomer compared to the other middle names you’ve picked, and has been gaining popularity, but its so beautiful, its easy to see why!
Rayaan also has a beautiful meaning- it is the name of a gate of [name]Heaven[/name] that opens during the month of Ramadan only.
Thank you! I think those five are my favorite names too (so far!). [name]Oliver[/name] [name]Ishmael[/name] is my favorite combo, but I’m not sure if [name]Oliver[/name] is my favorite name on its own (compared to [name]August[/name] or [name]Dashiell[/name]), which I think is more important. [name]Oliver[/name] [name]Ishmael[/name] is just so rhythmic and lovely in my opinion
Raees is pronounced sort of like rah-EES, but not as defined…its hard to explain the exact pronunciation in English. The best I can do is ‘like rah-EES, but quicker’, if that makes any sense.
I was a bit afraid that, as you said, many of the posters on here may not have had much experience or knowledge or familiarity with Islamic/Arabic names, and therefore may just not have many opinions about them. But, despite that, your thoughts are so helpful nonetheless! While [name]Forrest[/name] may not be the best match for [name]Griffin[/name], I really like it and I love [name]Forrest[/name] [name]Amir[/name]!
[name]Dashiell[/name] Rayaan looks very cool!! Yes - many of the names we have picked are more traditional/old names, but they are all very important to us and (some) to Karif’s family. Rayaan definitely adds a lovely meaning to a wonderful name. We will most likely be adding this to the list!!
[name]Hi[/name]! Thanks for explaining the pronunciation of the middle name; I appreciate it! I agree that it’s important to love the name alone, and I’m so glad you love so many names on your list! I think [name]Dashiell[/name] and [name]August[/name] are amazing names! I really love your whole list!
