Brother for Jack, Nola and Lucy

We recently discovered that our fourth (and, probably, final) child, due this [name]September[/name], shall be a man child. Naming boys is next to impossible for me. I still have lingering name remorse for my eldest who is 8 ("[name]Jackson[/name]", I love “[name]Jack[/name]”, but I really wish that I had gone for the traditional “[name]John[/name]”, with the nickname of “[name]Jack[/name]” since every second child in creation is now named [name]Jackson[/name]. Also, it gets confusing with our last name, which is pronounced exactly like the girl’s name [name]Becca[/name]. Surname first names don’t work so well for us.) But, I digress.

So, fourth baby is due in 17 weeks or so. And it is a boy. We currently have a [name]Jack/name, [name]Nola[/name], and a [name]Lucy[/name]. I am currently leaning towards either [name]Edward[/name] ([name]Ned[/name] or [name]Ted[/name]/[name]Teddy[/name]) or [name]Hugh[/name]. As I said, our last name is two syllables and sounds exactly like [name]Becca[/name]. Middles may be [name]James[/name] or [name]William[/name] or something else. So…

[name]Jack[/name], [name]Nola[/name], [name]Lucy[/name], [name]Edward[/name] ([name]Ned[/name]/[name]Ted[/name]/[name]Teddy[/name])

    • my worries with [name]Edward[/name] are that it is too formal with my other children. And, then, there is the whole sparkly vampire thing
      or
      [name]Jack[/name], [name]Nola[/name], [name]Lucy[/name], [name]Hugh[/name]
    • is [name]Hugh[/name] too insubstantial? Too easily confused with huge? Am I starting to over think?

Any opinions? and if you hate both options, any suggestions? I, of course, do not need to be decided right now, really just looking for feedback. Thanks in advance!

I like both options quite a lot. However, for some reason, when I say [name]Hugh[/name] [name]Becca[/name] it sounds a little strange. [name]Hugo[/name] [name]Becca[/name] would work better I think. [name]Edward[/name] works great. I’d use a long middle name with either one of these (3+ syllables), think it’d make the overall flow better.

I prefer [name]Edward[/name] over [name]Hugh[/name] but I really like javad suggestion of [name]Hugo[/name].

I like [name]Edward[/name] the best, and I think any of the nicknames would work with the sibset.

I agree that [name]Hugh[/name] is a little insubstantial.

[name]Edward[/name] is my preference as well. While [name]Edward[/name] is quite formal, I think [name]Teddy[/name] is adorable with the older 3 kiddos.

I like [name]Hugh[/name]! I also think [name]Edward[/name] might be more formal than his siblings. However, if you love it - go for it anyway!

Other names that I think fit with [name]Jack[/name], [name]Nola[/name], and [name]Lucy[/name]:

[name]Beau[/name]
[name]Wyatt[/name]
[name]Finn[/name]
[name]Caleb[/name]
[name]Owen[/name]
[name]Miles[/name]
[name]Jude[/name]

Thanks for the suggestions and opinions!

[name]Hugo[/name] is adorable! I’m originally from South [name]Carolina[/name] and it reminds me of a hurricane we had back in 1989–though I don’t see that as an issue, really. If he’s anything like my other offspring, sharing a name with a hurricane may be very appropriate. I also love [name]Wyatt[/name], [name]Caleb[/name], and [name]Miles[/name]–but those have been vetoed by the husband (who, for someone who swears he has no opinion on names, seems to have one most of the time.)

My 8 year old just brought up another issue with [name]Hugh[/name]–I mentioned the name to the kids and [name]Jack[/name] started giggling. I asked him what was funny and he says, “[name]Hugh[/name]? That rhymes with poo!” I’m so happy that I have raised such a mature child.

I do love [name]Edward[/name] (and tend to associate the name more with classic lit than teen lit). I am so happy the general opinion is that the nicknames I enjoy are a good fit for the sibset. I think I’ll keep [name]Edward[/name] and [name]Hugo[/name] for the time being, but no promises I won’t be back in, oh, 16 weeks, freaking out because I can’t choose a name

I think both names can work with your sibset, but I do prefer [name]Edward[/name] myself.

[name]Jack[/name], [name]Nola[/name], [name]Lucy[/name] &…
[name]Benjamin[/name]
[name]Ray[/name]
[name]Tom[/name]
[name]Oliver[/name]
[name]James[/name]
[name]Henry[/name]
[name]Joseph[/name]/[name]Joe[/name]
[name]Pat[/name]/[name]Patrick[/name]

Have you considered [name]Edwin[/name] as an alternative to [name]Edward[/name]? I know the sweetest little old man named [name]Edwin[/name] [name]Becka[/name]–no joke. You could use the nn [name]Win[/name] (so cute).
