Due in a week and we still don’t have names. I love informal nicknames, but prefer to primarily call our kiddos what we name them. I also want the name to be easy to spell as our kids will always be clarifying how to spell our last name.
Names we have discussed:
[name_m]Connor[/name_m] (was my husbands top pick until recently)
[name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] (now his top pick, I don’t love [name_u]Nick[/name_u])
[name_m]Graham[/name_m] (We go back and forth with this one)
[name_m]Matthew[/name_m] (don’t love [name_m]Matt[/name_m])
[name_m]William[/name_m] (my favorite, but so popular)
[name_m]Peter[/name_m] (another of my favs, but husband can’t get on board)
What would you name a brother to [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]? At this point I just can’t seem to find one I love! Thanks for your help!
From your list I think Peter, Nicholas, and William fit the best with James and Andrew. If you don’t like Nick for Nicholas, how about Cole? Peter made me think of Patrick or Thomas. Connor made me think of Colin/Collin. Nicholas made me think of Nathan “Nate”. Matthew made me think of Mitchell and Daniel.
I think Nicholas William called Cole could be a good compromise. It’s a bummer your husband isn’t on board with Peter; it’s such a lovely, underused name.
With [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] I really love [name_m]Connor[/name_m]! Maybe you can help DH fall back in love with it? I also really like [name_m]Peter[/name_m], it’s a shame DH isn’t keen.
I think William and Peter are great with the brother names! Nicholas works as well. Other ideas:
Timothy
Daniel
Christopher
Thomas
Henry
Michael
Mark
Luke
John
Jonathan
Nathaniel
Leo
Joseph
If you like [name_m]William[/name_m] why not go with [name_m]Liam[/name_m] (A tad less popular)?
Other nn options for [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] are [name_u]Nico[/name_u], Olas and [name_m]Cole[/name_m].
I think [name_m]Connor[/name_m] and [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] go great with your other kids names, but all are lovely.
I like [name_m]William[/name_m] and [name_m]Matthew[/name_m]. Not every [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] will be called [name_m]Matt[/name_m] - if he wants to go by [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] at school, I’m sure he’ll be able to make that clear. As for [name_m]William[/name_m], don’t be bothered by popularity; it’s popular for a reason and goes well with [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_m]Andrew[/name_m].
From your list, I love [name_m]William[/name_m] with [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]. I know [name_m]William[/name_m] is very popular, but it fits so well!
[name_m]William[/name_m] is a great name and it goes so well with his brothers! Popularity is relative, and really different for kids born now than for adults. [name_m]William[/name_m] might be the #3 most popular boys’ name in the US, but it was only given to 0.76% of boys born last year. For comparison, in 1988 [name_m]William[/name_m] was given to 1.2% of all boys born, and it was down at #16. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though it’s ranked so much higher now, it’s given to far fewer boys than in our generation.
[name_m]Connor[/name_m] is a lovely name, but [name_m]Connor[/name_m], [name_m]Conor[/name_m], [name_u]Conner[/name_u], and [name_m]Konnor[/name_m] are all in the US top 1000, with [name_m]Konner[/name_m] not that far behind. It might not be as easy to spell as you might have hoped!
It’s too bad that your husband isn’t on board with [name_m]Peter[/name_m]–it’s just lovely with [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]. With those two, I also like [name_m]Simon[/name_m], [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], [name_u]Evan[/name_u], [name_m]Patrick[/name_m], and [name_m]Ian[/name_m].

Thanks for all the great feedback! This baby could come at any moment now and I hate being all over the place with names. I agree that [name_m]William[/name_m] fits perfectly with brothers names. And the spelling of [name_m]Connor[/name_m] isn’t necessarily simple. Encouraged by you guys I pushed for [name_m]Peter[/name_m] last night- and still didn’t get husband on board. I’m going to work on middle names and hopefully one will sounds perfect!
