Looking for name ideas for baby (tho we won’t know sex until arrival!)…big brother is [name_m]Lazarus[/name_m] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m].
We prefer unusual Biblical names with a strong meaning. [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] is family honor name.
Big sister is [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] [name_f]Irene[/name_f].
If a boy, this one’s mn will be honor name of [name_m]Bruce[/name_m].
Our ln is [name_u]Van[/name_u] S-----.
Current favs:
[name_m]Jedidiah[/name_m] [name_m]Bruce[/name_m] --nn [name_m]Jed[/name_m]
[name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m] [name_m]Bruce[/name_m] —no nn
[name_m]Abraham[/name_m] [name_m]Bruce[/name_m] --nn [name_m]Abe[/name_m]
Reuben Bruce
Other names we like but may not use due to associations, ppl we know, or too alliterative/rhyming with siblings:
From your list my favourites are [name_m]Judah[/name_m] and [name_u]Cedar[/name_u].
Can I ask why you chose religious names for your sons but not for your daughter? [name_m]Just[/name_m] curious since they’re different naming styles!
@sinclaiiir
Good question. I think we’d ideally prefer Biblical names for boys and girls, but feels like fewer options for girls! Our daughter’s mn is [name_f]Irene[/name_f], which means peace in Greek and so does show up in [name_m]New[/name_m] Testament, in a way. Her first name has a lot of personal meaning for us, plus as a vintagey name I feel like it can fit with more obscure Biblical names like [name_m]Lazarus[/name_m], which also would have been used in previous generations.
I love [name_m]Gideon[/name_m] from your list. My first thought when I saw your thread was [name_m]Zachariah[/name_m], I think it would be smashing with [name_m]Lazarus[/name_m] and [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]. Or maybe [name_m]Ishmael[/name_m] or [name_m]Jethro[/name_m]?
Ooh, I love your style! (And I feel you on the dearth of good Biblical names for girls!)
I love [name_m]Abraham[/name_m] best from your shortlist, and I like previous posters’ suggestions of [name_m]Solomon[/name_m], [name_m]Boaz[/name_m], [name_m]Nehemiah[/name_m], [name_m]Josiah[/name_m], and [name_m]Zechariah[/name_m].
I think [name_m]Ruben[/name_m] [name_m]Bruce[/name_m] is the best one to match.
Name I suggest is Prester [name_m]Bruce[/name_m] or Ramiel [name_m]Bruce[/name_m]
I really like [name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m]. Did you try the nn [name_u]Jem[/name_u]?
Other suggestions:
[name_m]Solomon[/name_m]
[name_m]Elihu[/name_m]
[name_m]Benaiah[/name_m]
[name_m]Castiel[/name_m] (probably too closely related to the tv show Supernatural)
I also really like [name_m]Obadiah[/name_m] (nn Opie?) and [name_m]Moses[/name_m]. Since you’re religious, I thinks it’s perfectly fine to use a name from the Bible that is extremely related to that one character, i.e [name_m]Moses[/name_m], but that’s just me. I’m just guessing that that’s one of the
reasons why it’s not really high on your list.
Multiple people suggested [name_m]Ephraim[/name_m], which reminded me I loved that name 15 years ago!
[name_m]Will[/name_m] think about it and run by DH.
I’m also intrigued by the [name_m]Enoch[/name_m] suggestion! I like that it’s very different in sounds to our other kids. Have to decide if the meaning/story is significant enough to us or if DH will totally nix.
[name_m]Moses[/name_m] is low on the list only because I’m worried it sounds too similar to our kids names: Repeated M initial to [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]; cute nn [name_u]Mo[/name_u] sounds like nn Magno; ending similar to [name_m]Lazarus[/name_m]. No problem with the strong Biblical character association!
Our other problem is that we run in circles where we know MANY [name_m]Josiahs[/name_m], [name_u]Elis[/name_u], and Ashers, and people with all the following names, which are great suggestions:
[name_m]Elihu[/name_m]
[name_m]Solomon[/name_m]
[name_m]Boaz[/name_m]
[name_m]Isaiah[/name_m]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]
[name_m]Zechariah[/name_m]
[name_m]Malachi[/name_m]
[name_m]Gideon[/name_m]
[name_m]Simon[/name_m]
[name_m]Abel[/name_m]
[name_m]Isaac[/name_m]
[name_m]Judah[/name_m]
Some of these are debatable for use since only acquaintances, but several are 2nd cousins or kids of close friends and therefore unacceptable in my book.
