We have a son named [name_m]Leander[/name_m], and we are trying to decide a name for his little brother. We are really struggling.
We keep coming across names that we like just fine, but then if we find out that the name appears to be surging in popularity, we grow concerned. For instance, I have loved the sound of “[name_m]Liam[/name_m]” but would prefer not to have a name that is likely to become trendy or is already there. (Being the fifth [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] in the room can get old. Some don’t mind, but I found that frustrating.) We’d also like a name that blends well with [name_m]Leander[/name_m]. We like that [name_m]Leander[/name_m] is easy to say, isn’t very common, and has an interesting meaning.
[name_m]Leander[/name_m] is a great name, lovely to see it on a boy. I think in order to find the perfect name for your second son you need to narrow down your search options. For example [name_m]Liam[/name_m] is like [name_m]Leander[/name_m] in that they share the first syllable sound. While its also a great name ( yes become popular ) you might want to stear clear of that and nanes like [name_m]Levi[/name_m], [name_u]Leland[/name_u], [name_m]Leopold[/name_m], [name_m]Leo[/name_m]… And so on as they start just the same. If you’re looking to add a theme where your children’s names begin with L be aware that you’ll likely continue the theme for any subsuquent children so write down anything you come across now that you like even if you don’t use it. For later reference. L can lead into many different and all lovely sounds. [name_m]Ly[/name_m]/ Li as in [name_u]Lyle[/name_u] / [name_u]Lisle[/name_u] this sound is quite nice and underused. [name_f]Lu[/name_f]/ [name_m]Lew[/name_m] as in [name_m]Louis[/name_m]/[name_m]Lewis[/name_m]/ [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] also a good beginning sound. La- like in [name_m]Landen[/name_m] and [name_m]Lawson[/name_m]… Lo like in [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] … So you see what I’m saying, vary things just enough if you’re usung the same first letter. Now if you want to use a different letter that’s equally as good, once you do that you’ve set a theme of using different letters for your children’s names and then the sky is the limit! Look at how names are written out no matter which way you choose to go first letter wise… Avoid names containing [name_u]Lee[/name_u], ann, and, & er sounds because these are the sounds that are prominent in your sons name and you don’t want to have their names be overly similar. So do you want another longer name like [name_m]Leander[/name_m] that is 3 syllables? I would personally go that route as [name_m]Leander[/name_m] is so nice and there are equally as nice other names of similar lengths that you will come across soon. I think your sons name might over power the name of the baby if it were shorter… For example this is what his name looks like next to 2 syllable names ( I chose the ones I think go best with it and you can see if you think its too much for them) [name_m]Leander[/name_m] & [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m], [name_m]Leander[/name_m] & [name_m]Basil[/name_m], [name_m]Leander[/name_m] & [name_m]Caleb[/name_m], [name_m]Leander[/name_m] & [name_m]Fergus[/name_m]… Now with single syllable names… [name_m]Leander[/name_m] & [name_m]George[/name_m], [name_m]Leander[/name_m] & [name_m]Ben[/name_m], [name_m]Leander[/name_m] & Kolt… I think you’d have to choose the right names, something like these that are just very big, bigger than how long they are. Like [name_m]Leander[/name_m] & [name_m]Steven[/name_m] or [name_m]Leander[/name_m] & [name_m]Greg[/name_m] just don’t work. If you use something of a similar or same length watch out that it doesn’t overpower [name_m]Leander[/name_m], Secundus for example is like woah that’s something, yeah you can do it and probably pull it off but it might be nice for it to just meld nicely with his brother. So I see why you’re stuck where you are. Try and think of some sounds you like. Like say you like [name_f]My[/name_f]. That’s a good sound right, [name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m] for example is a great companion to [name_m]Leander[/name_m] and it contains that sound that I’m throwing out there while [name_m]Jeremiah[/name_m] is longer is also a bit gentle similarly [name_m]Leander[/name_m] isn’t harsh so they could go together. If you didn’t like [name_m]Jer[/name_m] but wanted something different [name_m]Josiah[/name_m]? Its a bit shorter and a but heavier like [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] with that nice I sound… See what I’m getting at? Well if this is at all clear you could make a list of what you’re looking for. It will help you immensely and I and others could narrow down some names for you quickly! Rather than just picking a bunch of random ones
I’m not sure. [name_f]My[/name_f] first thought was [name_m]Liam[/name_m], [name_m]Liam[/name_m] and [name_m]Leander[/name_m] sound really good as a sibset.
But if you really don’t want [name_m]Liam[/name_m], maybe try…
[name_m]Leander[/name_m] is gorgeous, your son has a wonderful name. I second a lot of suggestions already made, especially [name_u]Asa[/name_u], [name_m]Atlas[/name_m], [name_m]Tobias[/name_m], and [name_m]Stellan[/name_m].
I like the above suggestions of [name_m]Florin[/name_m] and [name_m]Stellan[/name_m].
[name_m]Percival[/name_m] or [name_m]Perseus[/name_m] would be lovely, too.
Or how about
[name_m]Fintan[/name_m]
[name_u]Dorian[/name_u]
[name_u]Orion[/name_u]
[name_m]Darius[/name_m]
[name_m]Cletus[/name_m]
[name_m]Cadmus[/name_m]
[name_m]Cyprian[/name_m]
[name_m]Eustace[/name_m]
[name_m]Myron[/name_m]
[name_m]Nestor[/name_m]
[name_m]Priam[/name_m] (sounds like [name_m]Liam[/name_m]… but much more unique!)
[name_m]Theon[/name_m]
I really second whoever suggested [name_m]Leander[/name_m] and [name_m]Cyprian[/name_m].
[name_m]Leander[/name_m] is name that falls into one of my favorite categories: old (in the sense of mythology), easy to spell and pronounce, not too convoluted. I think [name_m]Cyprian[/name_m] falls there easily.
Other options:
[name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] (similar is spelling to [name_m]Cyprian[/name_m], but entirely different pronunciation)
[name_m]Hawthorn[/name_m]
[name_m]Silas[/name_m]
[name_m]Hadrian[/name_m]
[name_m]Isidore[/name_m]
[name_m]Quentin[/name_m]
[name_m]Leander[/name_m] is beautiful. I’ve always had a fondness for that name.
[name_m]William[/name_m] (I don’t know about the popularity of it where you live) could be a great way to incorporate [name_m]Liam[/name_m] (which seems to be popular right about everywhere). I also think [name_m]Leander[/name_m] and [name_m]William[/name_m] go much better stylistically, but maybe that’s just me.
I absolutely adore the name [name_m]Leander[/name_m]! It is one of my favourite names.
I don’t think that [name_m]Liam[/name_m] and [name_m]Leander[/name_m] go that well together because they both begin with the same sound, even though I think [name_m]Liam[/name_m] is also a lovely name.
I will suggest some of my other favourite names (we must have similar taste seeing as we both love [name_m]Leander[/name_m]!) and some others that I think fit your criteria. I’m sorry for any repeats as I haven’t managed to read every previous suggestion!:
