[name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I don’t at all agree on a boys name. Please give me your thoughts on the names for a brother for [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] (Nates) and [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] (Zuzu). [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] would have been [name_u]Wesley[/name_u] or [name_m]Jake[/name_m] had she been a boy. Middle name will be [name_u]William[/name_u] (unless we go with Wesley).
The only name my husband likes is [name_m]Jacob[/name_m]. We are an interfaith family and I think it sounds too much in the direction of my husband’s religion when added to our surname. I also love [name_u]Reid[/name_u] and [name_m]Graham[/name_m] but neither work with our surname (color starting with G).

The thing that strikes me immediately is that [name_u]Wesley[/name_u] = [name_u]John[/name_u] [name_u]Wesley[/name_u], the founder of the Methodist church. So if you don’t want the name to lean very much to one religion, [name_u]Wesley[/name_u] seems off to me.
[name_m]Troy[/name_m] seems to be from a different time to me, around mid to late 20th century.
[name_m]Jake[/name_m] is different because it’s a less formal name without a nickname, but it’s not glaringly out of place.
All of the other names seem to fit! I think my favorites with the siblings are Andrew/Drew and Micah/Mac.
Good luck and congrats!
Is it sad I have no idea who [name_u]John[/name_u] [name_u]Wesley[/name_u] is? I’m [name_m]Roman[/name_m] Catholic and my husband is Jewish. [name_f]My[/name_f] only hold up if at all with [name_m]Wes[/name_m] is that it sounds cowboy compared to my other two But I do love its simplicity!
Your reply made me giggle. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband is [name_m]Jared[/name_m] and his twin brother is [name_m]Jason[/name_m]. [name_f]My[/name_f] nephew is [name_u]Noah[/name_u]. [name_f]My[/name_f] cousin and godfather and best friends son are [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]. I love Tobias/Toby by husband hates it. And I absolutely love “Gr” names, especially [name_m]Graham[/name_m] and [name_m]Grant[/name_m] (and love [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] for a girl), but our surname is a one syllable name starting with a Gr. I’m also older and have eight nieces and nephews and my friends are done having kids. Some of your recos are favorites that are all in use. [name_f]My[/name_f] husbands groomsmen named his son [name_m]Luke[/name_m] a month ago but we are still considering [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] as a work around PS: do you think [name_m]Gideon[/name_m] Gr**n is too much G? It’s such a great name.
[name_f]My[/name_f] son is [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] [name_u]Bennett[/name_u]. When I names him that (after grandfathers [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] and Benedict), my friend told me I’d regret it because [name_u]Bennett[/name_u] is a great first name it so is!
Honestly, I don’t know if it’s actually a big deal. I’m Catholic too, and I immediately knew [name_u]Wesley[/name_u] was a famous Protestant, but I did have to look up who exactly he was. Sorry, I should have specified that! Looking into it further, [name_u]Wesley[/name_u] is a top 100 name in the US, so I’m sure it must have use outside of devout Methodists. And, now that I think about it, I wouldn’t assume that parents of a [name_u]Wesley[/name_u] were Methodist, even though [name_u]John[/name_u] [name_u]Wesley[/name_u] is my predominant association. I’m sorry; I think I was too hasty in my first response. And I really like [name_m]Wes[/name_m]! I think it goes well with Nates, and I actually think of [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] (although not Zuzu) as a prairie-type name and one that would be at home in the Old [name_u]West[/name_u].
It’s not clear if your husband is still holding onto [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] but if it doesn’t work for you, he’s going to have to relinquish it and get serious about some other names. [name_m]Jake[/name_m] and [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] from your list are very close alternatives to [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] if he manages to come around to them. I would say [name_m]Andrew[/name_m], [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] and [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] are most consistent with the style of [name_m]Nathan[/name_m] and [name_f]Susannah[/name_f].
Looking for other names with similar sounds to [name_m]Jacob[/name_m], I first think of [name_m]Job[/name_m] and [name_u]Robert[/name_u]. Perhaps you would like names with the long ‘a’ vowel sound such as [name_m]Xavier[/name_m], [name_m]Damien[/name_m], [name_u]Gabriel[/name_u], [name_u]Blake[/name_u] and [name_u]David[/name_u]. The other prominent sound in [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] is the hard ‘c’ sound and it also features in five names on your list. Some names I haven’t seen mentioned on this thread that may appeal to you are [name_m]Patrick[/name_m], [name_m]Zachary[/name_m], [name_u]Michael[/name_u], [name_m]Dominic[/name_m], [name_m]Eric[/name_m], [name_m]Marcus[/name_m], [name_m]Conrad[/name_m], [name_u]Declan[/name_u] and [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m].
If I may answer your question–I think [name_m]Gideon[/name_m] sounds great with your surname. Sure, they share the same first and last letters but the full effect isn’t overwhelming. If I saw the name written down or heard it called out I wouldn’t think anything of it. Everyone has their own perspective on alliteration, so you and your husband will have yours. If you can’t overlook it, I guess it’s not the right name for you. All the best with your decision.
Well your post hits home for me as well… my husband is Nathan and a variant of Susannah runs in my family. And I completely think Gideon G is not too much G (as long as you keep a G out of the middle slot…. But I’m also biased towards the name Gideon as well…. That’s my youngest
I like [name_u]Leo[/name_u] best with your family (I tend to avoid quite themey sibsets so [name_u]Micah[/name_u], [name_m]Matthew[/name_m], and [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] are out for me). I also like [name_u]Wesley[/name_u], [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] and [name_u]Everett[/name_u] from your list. I also really like [name_m]Andrew[/name_m], and though biblical it’s seen as quite mainstream so I think it would work well.
