Brother for Nora and Luke!

We are having our third— a boy. He will have a sister [name_f]Nora[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and a brother [name_m]Luke[/name_m] [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m].

So we are mostly interested in classic names, but hopefully something not super popular. Both [name_f]Nora[/name_f] and [name_m]Luke[/name_m] mean “light”… but after some research, I don’t think we can keep up that trend for the third — there aren’t any options we like.

Here are some names my husband and I do like:

[name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] ([name_u]Nicky[/name_u]/[name_u]Nick[/name_u])
[name_m]Thomas[/name_m] ([name_m]Tommy[/name_m]/[name_m]Tom[/name_m])
[name_m]Jonathan[/name_m] ([name_m]Johnny[/name_m]/[name_m]John[/name_m])
[name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_m]Daniel[/name_m] ([name_u]Danny[/name_u])
[name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] ([name_u]Max[/name_u])
[name_u]Jude[/name_u]
[name_u]Noel[/name_u]
[name_u]Gavin[/name_u]

And we are very open to new suggestions!

Neither of our other kids has a name that lends itself to a nickname, so it feels strange to be considering so many this time around. But I can also just see us doing another short-and-sweet option.

So what do you think… [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_m]Luke[/name_m] and …?

From your list I like [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. And while you have all “light” names so far, they’re also both 4 letters long and that is something you could easily keep up. [name_u]Noel[/name_u] is too close to [name_f]Nora[/name_f] I think, but [name_u]Jude[/name_u] would work for that.

Some other names that could work:

[name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_m]Luke[/name_m] and [name_m]Adam[/name_m]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_m]Luke[/name_m] and [name_m]Cole[/name_m]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_m]Luke[/name_m] and [name_u]Drew[/name_u]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_m]Luke[/name_m] and [name_u]Finn[/name_u]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_m]Luke[/name_m] and [name_m]Paul[/name_m]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_m]Luke[/name_m] and [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_m]Luke[/name_m] and [name_u]Seth[/name_u]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_m]Luke[/name_m] and [name_u]Owen[/name_u]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_m]Luke[/name_m] and [name_m]Liam[/name_m]

From your list I like [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_m]Luke[/name_m], and [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]/[name_u]Nick[/name_u], [name_m]Henry[/name_m], or [name_u]Jude[/name_u]. [name_u]Nick[/name_u] combines the beginning of [name_f]Nora[/name_f] with the end of [name_m]Luke[/name_m] yet sounds distinct. [name_u]Jude[/name_u] gives you the short, nickname-free style. And [name_m]Henry[/name_m] seems like a classic in the vein of [name_f]Nora[/name_f] and [name_m]Luke[/name_m].

From your list I like [name_m]Maxwell/name_m and [name_m]Gavin[/name_m].
While you may not be able to use another “light” name, there are other name meanings that are similar, depending on what “light” means to you.

[name_m]Aaron[/name_m]- enlightened

I really like [name_u]Jude[/name_u], [name_m]Gavin[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m], & [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] from your list with [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_m]Luke[/name_m]. I was actually going to suggest [name_u]Max[/name_u], haha. [name_m]Henry[/name_m] is my favourite with the two.

From your list I think [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] is a cool combo.
[name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] is a bit longer than the sibling names but I imagine he’ll mostly go by [name_u]Max[/name_u].
[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_m]Harry[/name_m]?

[name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_m]Luke[/name_m] and [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] is a lovely choice

Thanks to everyone for your responses! My husband and I love that idea that “[name_u]Nick[/name_u]” is the first part of [name_f]Nora[/name_f] and the last part of [name_m]Luke[/name_m], while still being distinctive in itself. I think we may be leaning toward [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m] or [name_u]Max[/name_u]… (with [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] and [name_m]John[/name_m] as good middle name options) but we definitely welcome more ideas. Thanks again!!

I know that Nameberry has [name_f]Nora[/name_f]'s meaning as “light” but it doesn’t mean light. [name_f]Nora[/name_f] is from either [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] or [name_f]Honora[/name_f]/[name_f]Honoria[/name_f], neither of which mean light. Sure, it’s similar to the Arabic name [name_f]Noor[/name_f] but it isn’t a form of it or anything.

[name_m]Henry[/name_m] is great with [name_f]Nora[/name_f] and [name_m]Luke[/name_m].

[name_f]Nora[/name_f] is a shortened form of [name_f]Eleanora[/name_f] which is a variant of [name_f]Helen[/name_f] which does mean “light”. It can also have roots in the Arabic [name_f]Nura[/name_f], also meaning “light”. I rarely search name meanings on nameberry, I don’t find them to be very accurate.

[name_f]Eleanora[/name_f] is from [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], which is from Occitan phrase alia Aenor “the other Aenor”.

[name_u]True[/name_u], that is one of the possible theories that is out there. There are also several different possible etymologies. The Provencal speakers lived in close proximity to the Iberian Arabic speakers so there is evidence of cultural influence. Many names have multiple roots.

Bump
Adding [name_u]Evan[/name_u], [name_m]Phillip[/name_m] and [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] as possibilities.
Thank you so much for your suggestions!
