Hey just looking for general feedback on our current name list for our son due in [name_u]March[/name_u].
Harry, [name_u]Dustin[/name_u], [name_m]Reuben[/name_m], [name_m]Frank[/name_m], and [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m]. Maybe [name_m]Felix[/name_m], I haven’t run it pass the husband yet. Middle name would be either [name_u]James[/name_u] or [name_u]Forest[/name_u]
Big sister is [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
Hmm nothing too particular, we don’t want to use a name of someone we know which has been pretty limiting - and doesn’t help you.
Otherwise husband doesn’t want anything too"out there" and I don’t want anything “trendy” although I’ve laxed on popularity (in [name_u]New[/name_u] Zealand)
Oh, I love [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]!
Here are my thoughts for a little brother:
Harry-I think this is cute & goes well w/Olive. It’s quirky & vintage & friendly. I do prefer it as a nn for [name_m]Henry[/name_m] or [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] though.
Dustin-You know, I kind of like it. It’s not a name that’s on my radar a lot, but it’s interesting. It has a light, friendly, cool cowboy but maybe also beach-y guy vibe. Pretty cute w/Olive.
Reuben-For some reason I can’t fall in love w/this, but it’s perfectly fine. [name_m]Just[/name_m] doesn’t sparkle.
Frank-I can see the appeal of [name_u]Francis[/name_u], [name_m]Franklin[/name_m] or [name_u]Frankie[/name_u], but just [name_m]Frank[/name_m] sounds like a cranky old man to me to be honest.
Jeremy-Meh, it’s okay. A little dated & just sounds like germ-y.
Felix-This goes well w/Olive, but I just feel like it sounds a little unsubstantial some how.
Olive [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] & [name_m]Franklin[/name_m] [name_u]Forest[/name_u] or [name_u]Dustin[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u]
I think [name_u]Remy[/name_u] [name_u]Forest[/name_u] and [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] would also make great sibsets with [name_f]Olive[/name_f]
Thanks for the feedback! I just remembered I use to know someone [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m] we would call Germy (in a nice teasing way) but still…
I like your description of [name_u]Dustin[/name_u] and if we used [name_m]Frank[/name_m] I think we would mostly refer to him as [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] when he’s small
Felix, Harry and Reuben are all familiar, well-liked choices. I think it’s fair to say they’re in style, in the same way Olive is, but I don’t see any of them as trendy. Felix is a good match for Olive, though in a way that feels somewhat expected. I really enjoy the how each name has one crisp, pointy letter from the end of the alphabet and visual cohesion of the letters ‘l’, ‘i’ and ‘e’. I am less excited by Harry. I’m not sure I like the casual feeling of it next to Olive which holds more weight. I love Reuben for your set a great deal. It’s slightly quirky like Olive and retains that old world charm. It also has the advantage of introducing some new sounds, unlike Felix.
I submitted too soon! Added:
The rest of your names aren’t under the radar for expectant parents. I’m a little surprised how much I like Dustin here. It feels like a retro choice that would fit right in with today’s names. I think it could be quite an under-appreciated little gem. Dusty would be rather charming. I think Jeremy is a pleasing name but one I’d expect to see it on someone in their thirties or forties. Jerry and Jem do a lot to endear the name and improves the compatibility with Olive. Finally Frank. It really plays to that clunky, fusty edge that Olive has. I wasn’t sure initially, but I feel like I’m warming up to Frank in this set. However, it’s worth noting that Frankie is a quite a fast rising name for girls, which makes it strangely seem a bit modern.
Oh yes I hadnt seen that part! Exactly how I feel about [name_m]Frank[/name_m]. I did an Instagram search on #babyfrank and for some reason seeing various babies called [name_m]Frank[/name_m] really gave me good feelings.
[name_u]Dustin[/name_u] has been on my list the longest so I’m feeling pretty confident about him. [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m] is new I like the sound but I agree a little dated… I think if my husband decides he really loves it I would too
I just looked up some baby pictures and imagined them named [name_m]Frank[/name_m]. It totally works! A small thing that bothers me is your middle name options with [name_m]Frank[/name_m]. The other names seem to have at least one strong match, but I’m not sure [name_m]Frank[/name_m] does for me personally. The single syllable and back to back stop sounds from [name_m]Frank[/name_m] to [name_u]James[/name_u] feels awkward. But then, [name_u]Forest[/name_u] comes packed with alliteration not just from the ‘f’ but also the ‘r’. I might be getting a tiny hint of ‘frankfurt’ from the combination. Hm… I think I’d end up choosing [name_u]James[/name_u] because when I add a longer pause in between the two, it does sort itself out and sound very handsome.
When you consider the middle name options for your short list, do any names tend stand out in better or worse light?
Congratulations on your upcoming little bundle ! Boys are so much fun!
I really love your name style and adore little [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] . I also adore [name_u]Forest[/name_u]
Dustin- this one feels like a hidden gem . I never hear it and only know 1 [name_u]Dustin[/name_u] in his early 30’s.
Frank- I adore this name on a baby! I think it is the same vintage flare that [name_f]Olive[/name_f] has. [name_m]Frank[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] feel so well suited
Rueben/ [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] - this is a name on my list as well ! So naturally I adore it. However paired with [name_f]Olive[/name_f] I think of lunch. I love the potential [name_u]Nick[/name_u] name of [name_u]Rue[/name_u] and [name_f]Olive[/name_f] or [name_m]Ben[/name_m] and [name_f]Olive[/name_f]
Jeremy - I feel this name is under the radar and hardly used for babies. [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] sounds cool! I love the alliteration and the [name_u]Nick[/name_u] names [name_u]Jerry[/name_u] and JJ . I think [name_u]Jerry[/name_u] and [name_f]Olive[/name_f] make a cute set
Harry - While I adore [name_u]Harry[/name_u] , the imagery I get when shouting these names together at the park gives me pause … “[name_u]Harry[/name_u] , [name_f]Olive[/name_f] it’s time to go home” might get some laughs
Felix - I love the name [name_m]Felix[/name_m] with big sister [name_f]Olive[/name_f]. [name_m]Felix[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_m]Felix[/name_m] [name_u]Forest[/name_u] match perfectly with [name_f]Olive[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
I think my top 3 for you would be
[name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_m]Jeremy[/name_m]
[name_m]Frank[/name_m]
My bottom 3 would be solely based on how these names feel like adjectives with big sisters name
[name_m]Reuben[/name_m]
[name_u]Dustin[/name_u]
[name_u]Harry[/name_u]
I really like [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] and [name_m]Felix[/name_m] from your list. Aww, [name_m]Frank[/name_m] would be so cute on a little boy! Others are nice but doesn’t excite me like these.
I adore [name_m]Felix[/name_m] with [name_f]Olive[/name_f]. They have a similar vibe - vintage and quirky but also full of spunk. [name_u]Harry[/name_u] is also sweet with [name_f]Olive[/name_f] and [name_m]Frank[/name_m] has a brilliant retro feel to it although I prefer [name_u]Frankie[/name_u]/Franky/Franklin. I can’t say I’m a fan of the others…
Have you ever considered [name_u]Rory[/name_u], [name_u]August[/name_u], [name_u]Jasper[/name_u], [name_u]Flynn[/name_u], [name_u]Rex[/name_u], [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m], [name_m]Bastian[/name_m], [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m], [name_u]Jude[/name_u] or [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]?
Thanks for your feedback!
“I think of lunch” made me laugh! It is a good point.
[name_u]Harry[/name_u], [name_f]Olive[/name_f] doesn’t really bother me.
Sadly my husband has vetoed [name_m]Felix[/name_m]! [name_m]Just[/name_m] as I’m getting all this great feedback for [name_m]Felix[/name_m].
I’m surprised most seem to like [name_m]Frank[/name_m]. I thought he would be quite polarizing.
