🌿 brother for Peregrine

Have been chatting names with my other half today and we decided we need some fresh boy ideas! Not expecting yet, just exploring for the future.

Our tippity-top boy name is lovely Peregrine, he combines our two favourite vibes of classic British and ā€˜could be found in a fantasy novel’ :bow_and_arrow: so I’m looking for suggestions that would fit with him nicely in a sib set.

Other names we like but can’t use for various reasons ~
Ambrose
Rafferty
Tristan
Cosmo
Horatio
Sebastian
Orlando
Frederick
and we can’t do anything ending in -ic or -is sounds

We also love Caspian but like the same nickname for both him and Peregrine (Pip!) and out of the two we would choose Peregrine.

I love [name_u]Peregrine[/name_u] and [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] together! How about exploring different possible NNs for [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]? I’ve always thought [name_m]Cap[/name_m] would be cute. Like short for [name_m]Captain[/name_m]. [name_u]Pip[/name_u] and [name_m]Cap[/name_m]! :blush:
I also think [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] would be lovely with [name_u]Peregrine[/name_u]. Some other suggestions…

I think I mentioned before that I know brothers named [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] and [name_u]Peregrine[/name_u] :slightly_smiling_face: [name_u]Peregrine[/name_u] is Pippin/Pip, but [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] has no nickname. He’s the older brother, and his mom offered the idea of [name_m]Ian[/name_m] to family who thought ā€œCaspianā€ was weird; but it didn’t stick. I like the suggestion of [name_m]Cap[/name_m].
Their middle brother is Zeph@n, and I see @seawillow has suggested [name_u]Zephaniah[/name_u] :grin:

[name_u]Love[/name_u] the suggestions of [name_m]Caedmon[/name_m], [name_u]Thaddeus[/name_u], [name_m]Zebedee[/name_m], Odysseus/Ulysses, among others! I see [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] on your no-fly list, and that’s the one my friend would probably have used for another boy (nn Rory.) They also considered [name_m]Ragnar[/name_m], [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m], [name_m]Tor[/name_m], [name_m]Quigley[/name_m], [name_u]Carbry[/name_u], among others.

@IndiaGo oh I should have put [name_m]Rufus[/name_m] on my ā€˜can’t use’ list - I utterly adore him but husband has a relative with the name :smiling_face_with_tear: also love [name_m]Rupert[/name_m], [name_u]Auberon[/name_u], [name_m]Stellan[/name_m] and [name_m]Tobias[/name_m]!

@somemelodioussonnet I really like [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] but it has been vetoed! [name_m]Kenneth[/name_m] is growing on me, it has a great meaning.

@tori101 love [name_u]Oberon[/name_u], and I’m quite into [name_m]Magnus[/name_m] and [name_m]Maximilian[/name_m] too!

@Shits_Giggles oh [name_u]Griffin[/name_u] is so lovely and cuddly, I also really like [name_u]Corin[/name_u] and [name_m]Crispin[/name_m]

@benton_s_mama I know aren’t they fab together! We think family would intuitively shorten it to [name_u]Cass[/name_u] which is a bit close to my husband’s name. I might have to stop caring about that because I love it so much haha. [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] is another big favourite (esp nn Bram) but sadly a family member has used it. [name_u]Love[/name_u] all your suggestions, [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] was our first boy crush and he still has a special place in my heart!

@Greyblue fab list, I’m having a bit of a [name_m]Ferdinand[/name_m] phase at the moment! His meaning goes so well with [name_u]Peregrine[/name_u] too. Wish I could get husband on board with [name_m]Sholto[/name_m]. Also loving [name_u]Florian[/name_u], Banquo, [name_u]Oberon[/name_u] and [name_u]Maxwell[/name_u]

@seawillow [name_m]Lysander[/name_m], [name_u]Atlas[/name_u], [name_u]Oleander[/name_u], [name_m]Percival[/name_m] are all fabulous and my particular favourite is [name_m]Valerian[/name_m] :heart_eyes:

@marysia [name_u]Leander[/name_u], [name_m]Lysander[/name_m], [name_m]Percival[/name_m], [name_u]Montgomery[/name_u], [name_m]Bartholomew[/name_m] :heart_eyes: thanks!

@auroradawn yes! That’s so interesting and I have so much respect for their excellent name taste, haha :wink: I just really am a nickname person and think it would be odd for me not to have one at all. I think it intuitively shortens to [name_u]Cass[/name_u] which I don’t dislike at all, it’s just a bit close to my husband’s name. [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] ā€˜Rory’ is perfect but it’s the beloved favourite boy name of a friend whose husband won’t let her use it, so I think it would be a bit harsh to ā€˜steal’ it from her :sweat_smile:

@Lauren.Ley wonderful list - I’m a big fan of [name_m]Faramond[/name_m] and [name_u]Valentine[/name_u] and really like [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] and [name_m]Archibald[/name_m]

You could also try searching in the forums for a thread called something like ā€œ26 Days of Unique Boy Namesā€ and may find ones that were created for each letter of the alphabet.

The same way it derives from Peter - I think it honestly works for any P name! Also, see Tolkien’s Peregrin Took → Pippin :wink:

First things first: I LOVE the name [name_u]Peregrine[/name_u]. Plain and simple. I usually pair it up with the first name [name_u]Jack[/name_u] because it’s maybe a bit daring for me (though I’d go nuts if I met a little [name_u]Peregrine[/name_u] in real life, honestly). Totally on board with the ā€œcould be found in a fantasy novelā€ description. Yeah, that’s [name_u]Peregrine[/name_u].

The list of names you can’t use is incredible, and it’s a shame because [name_u]Peregrine[/name_u] & [name_m]Horatio[/name_m], or [name_u]Peregrine[/name_u] & [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m], or [name_u]Peregrine[/name_u] & [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] are just made for each other.

A name that, in a way, I always associate with [name_u]Peregrine[/name_u] is [name_m]Alastair[/name_m] because it’s the other name I use as a middle name for my second favorite name (Henry). (So my two favorite combos are [name_u]Jack[/name_u] [name_u]Peregrine[/name_u] and [name_u]Henry[/name_u] [name_m]Alastair[/name_m], making [name_u]Peregrine[/name_u] and [name_m]Alastair[/name_m] like brothers to me.)

Here are some other names that might fit the bill for what you’re looking for.
