Hello,
Longtime lurker here. I have a 5 year old daughter named [name_u]Reese[/name_u] [name_f]Hailey[/name_f] and a 14 month old son name [name_m]Hezekiah[/name_m] [name_m]Keith[/name_m] (nn [name_u]Kiah[/name_u]). We just found out we are having a boy and are really stumped on names.
We like [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] and [name_m]Elwood[/name_m].
I almost like [name_m]Elwood[/name_m] more because I’m not sure I want two overtly religious names especially since my daughters name is so different in that regard.
Thoughts?
Thanks!
[name_m]Hi[/name_m] [name_f]Cait[/name_f], welcome in from lurking!
I love [name_u]Reese[/name_u] and [name_u]Kiah[/name_u] together, how cute. I think both of your name choices are lovely and either would work.
My personal preference is [name_m]Elwood[/name_m], for several reasons. One is that [name_u]Reese[/name_u] and [name_m]Hezekiah[/name_m]/[name_u]Kiah[/name_u] have a gender neutral feel, and [name_m]Elwood[/name_m] fits with this (whereas [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] doesn’t). Another is the length difference between [name_u]Reese[/name_u] and [name_m]Hezekiah[/name_m] - [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] is another long name. [name_m]Elwood[/name_m] is a nice bridge between the short [name_u]Reese[/name_u] and the long [name_m]Hezekiah[/name_m]. I also agree with you that [name_u]Reese[/name_u] stands out more with two religious names.
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] that helps, good luck and congratulations!
I 100% agree with the previous poster! [name_m]Elwood[/name_m] is a great middle ground between [name_u]Reese[/name_u] and [name_m]Hezekiah[/name_m], and just an overall fun choice.

While I agree that [name_m]Elwood[/name_m] is a nice middle ground between your two kids names, and I think it sounds nice, I also immediately think of [name_m]Elwood[/name_m] [name_m]Blues[/name_m] from [name_m]Blues[/name_m] Brothers. That doesn’t bother me, but I know some people like to know if there are any immediate associations that they may not have thought of!
Between the two names, I prefer [name_m]Solomon[/name_m]. But with your other two, It would be [name_m]Elwood[/name_m] for me.
Thank you for all the thoughtful replies!
I did think of the blues brothers too and wasn’t sure I love that association. I like the movie well enough and I’m from Chicago but still not sure.
My husband is really sold on [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] and didn’t like [name_m]Elwood[/name_m] because of the NN [name_m]Woody[/name_m]. ”
I’m torn.
Another thought- if we went with [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] what do you think of the nn [name_u]Sully[/name_u]?
When we sign our [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] cards etc. we usually do [name_u]Reese[/name_u] & [name_u]Kiah[/name_u].
So, does [name_u]Reese[/name_u], [name_u]Kiah[/name_u] & [name_u]Sully[/name_u] work?
Then the boys have the option of going by nicknames as they get older or full names?
To answer your second question:
I like [name_u]Sully[/name_u]! It’s a nice nickname for when he’s young, though it does make me think [name_f]Sally[/name_f] in the beginning and I need a second to process it’s [name_u]Sully[/name_u]. I like how it sounds with his siblings’ names.
And as for [name_m]Elwood[/name_m] being nicknamed [name_m]Woody[/name_m], I highly doubt it. Most people would call him [name_f]El[/name_f] if they used a nickname, it seems more natural and less silly.
